For those of you taking probiotics, do you see any improvement for m/s, particularly nausea ?
I’m on diclegis, zofran for the bad days plus ginger and everything else suggested. I’m grasping at straws (I know) but looking for anything that can help!
@rms924 I’ve been taking a probiotic most of first tri because I had a root canal at 4 weeks and had to take antibiotics and was hoping to avoid a yeast infection. I have had no morning sickness and very little nausea. I don’t know if it can be attributed to the probiotic or not, but it can’t hurt to try, right? 🤷🏻♀️
@rms924 I've been taking a probiotic since before getting pregnant. I have yet to throw up and nausea hasn't been too bad, definitely controllable as long as there's chips in the house. I don't know if it helps but I do swear by it for travelling. DH never used to take it and everytime we travelled he always got travellers diarrhea whereas I never did. I could eat street meat in SE Asia and still not be bothered. Our last vacation DH finally decided to take probiotics and he was fine. It can't hurt. And I get the Jameson's ones that taste like Swedish berries so bonus!
@rms924 Kimchi is great!! It is made just like sauerkraut, just different ingredients. I didn't take extra probiotic with my first and had no m/s. This time I am and have had a lot of nausea. I was drinking homemade ginger kombucha the first time around but kombucha is supposed to not actually have a lot of strains so if it was anything it was the ginger I think.
Lol. I’m going to give it a shot. Right now, diclegis and zofran are keeping me going. I’m going to raid the supermarket for kimchi and kombucha and I’ll head to gnc for probiotics.
Random thought- I struggled with ppd after my last pregnancy. I know that gut health is closely linked to depression and anxiety. Maybe more wishful thinking, but maybe this is a good move on many levels.
@rms924 I did Diclegis last pregnancy and loved it for MS except that it made me SOOOOOOO tired all the time. I was a legit zombie. Now I'm doing unison and B6 and it's okay, but not fabulous. How do you like zofran? I may ask my doctor about it next week. This heartburn is also horrendous and didn't start until at least 2nd tri with DS.
@sunshine2417 my dr has been so good to me with diclegis samples. Otherwise it’s a trillion dollars. But it seems to work better than the unisom b6 combo. This is nuts but I take 2 at around 3am and then another 2 at 3/4pm. That way I’m just a zombie toward the rest of day. I pick up my kids after work 630 and all I’m doing is dinner, bath and bedtime. And my husband helps so much.
I love zofran but my ob told me to use sparingly. There’s always a day where the vertigo hits and that’s when I will take it. I keep going with the diclegis at the same time. I hope that helps. My bigger hope is that this lets up a little soon 😢
Quick question- my husband got sick Friday (congestion and fatigue). His Dr called in an antibiotic Monday and he's seen very little improvement. At one point his temp went up to 101.3. He oh so lovingly shared it with me starting Tuesday despite our efforts to isolate the germs. My family Dr suggested Vicks, claritin, and saline spray over the phone for a few days before making an appointment. I feel like crum-tired, congested, headache, watery eyes, and nausea (I'm sure from the baby). I'm 8 wks pregnant...at what point should I call my ob? I've heard a fever this early can cause birth defects etc so I don't want to just wait this out but at the same time, antibiotics didn't help with DH... My temp was actually very low yesterday (97.5)
@nightdreamr13 101.3 is really the start of a fever for most people although I don't know how he was testing. My doc said if I started to get a temp to drink a lot of water as that can help keep it down. My temp has gone to 99 a few times and she wasn't worried. Not sure if it was just pregnancy or if I was fighting off a virus. Antibiotic won't do anything for a virus.
@nightdreamr13 It doesn't hurt to call your OB just to get a second, more specialized opinion. It might at least help calm your nerves a bit if they tell you the same thing as your family doc.
@nightdreamr13 while I had Flu A a few weeks ago, my fever got up to 102.5. I was FREAKING out. I called my OB immediately and they had me take Tylenol to bring it down. I went in to speak with them about the possibility of birth defects and they told me that it takes a prolonged and really high fever (104+) to cause those types of issues. They seemed so relaxed (and I know that they are a really good group) that I've stopped worrying about it too. I would call your dr to speak to him/her just to confirm
Does anyone know if midwives are able to do TV ultrasounds? My hospital doesn't have any availability with an OB for ultrasounds for 2 weeks. I'm wondering if I should reach out to the local midwives. I'm up in Canada, not sure if that makes any difference.
@40momma the certified nurse midwife at my OB’s clinic has completed multiple ultrasounds for me. It may depend on the specific midwife, but it’s worth reaching out and asking for sure.
Hey ladies, so im 11w and 2d and my symptoms are little to nothing. And I’m sure everyone would love that except it just makes me nervous because I don’t feel pregnant at all. My next appointment is March 5th. Is anyone else on here experiencing almost no symptoms? Or am I just “lucky” as everyone calls it.
@pbhskygrd have you had any appointments yet where you’ve heard a heartbeat? Did you have symptoms prior? It’s quite normal to start feeling better around this time as you get close to second trimester.
@pbhskygrd Me! I'm 11w5d so right around the same as you. To be fair I have had (and still have) some symptoms, like mild indigestion (burps and hiccups), trouble staying asleep, and all the bloat. But I haven't had any m/s since week 7, I don't really feel any more tired than usual, and I haven't had any food aversions. I can totally relate to feeling "lucky" but also just darn anxious! I just had an appointment on Tuesday and we heard the heartbeat with the doppler. Hang in there!
Any high risk mamas in here? We just had our initial/intake appointment and they said we will be considered high risk, and will be having ‘lots of additional monitoring - ultrasounds and NSTs’. How much more monitoring does that traditionally mean? I’ve never been high risk before.
@MsBeachNJ yes - my last two pregnancies I developed high blood pressure around week 30 and baby started measuring small at about the same time. Both babies were delivered at 38 weeks for high BP/developing pre-eclampsia and IUGR. My most recent pregnancy, we lost our daughter to SIDS at 2 months. So between the two circumstances they are labeling me high risk.
@kiddiesandkitties understandable that they'd want to keep an eye on things. Hopefully this just means you get to see your lil bub more often! I think it may vary by practice. I've had friends "high risk" that were monitored weekly from an earlier point instead of just the last month or so. I'm over 35 so my doctor said they consider that "high risk" but from a practical standpoint for us it will only mean one additional ultrasound at 32 weeks for "growth". Other than that she said it would be business as usual. Did your dr. give you any indication on what to expect?
@pbhskygrd I'm 11w5d and had morning sickness in week 7 too (just nausea no vom) Other than feeling extra tired some days and bloating, I feel pretty much the same? I think? I can relate to the anxiety you're feeling. Fingers crossed we're just (heavy quotes) "lucky."
@pbhskygrd i think it’s normal. I had no symptoms with DS. This pregnancy is another story!l I was hoping for another “sick” free pregnancy but I was sadly mistaken. Lol Enjoy feeling well!!
@kiddiesandkitties I'm considered high risk too but for different reasons. I knew I would be high risk before I even got KU. I have a medical condition that could potential make late term pregnancy and delivery dangerous. I got the all clear from my neurosurgeon to have a vaginal delivery so hopefully everything stays stable enough for that. I'm not sure if I'll be having extra appointments for it or not yet. I think its mostly just the delivery they're worried about. If there's enough of us we could start a high risk thread.

I have had an eventful week, and I am hoping someone may have some insight on what I am going through.
**Possible TW** I went to the doctor on Wednesday with some abdominal pain. She sent me for an U/S which of course I couldn't get into until Thursday morning. By the time I had my U/S the pain had subsided quite a bit. We got to see baby. And it was wiggly and jumping like crazy, had a great HB of 167 and is measuring right on track to the date I received at 7 weeks. I felt good leaving that appt. Then at noon on Friday my doctor called me. She had looked over the scans from my U/S and talked to the radiologist who reviewed them. They had concerns about the baby being too close to my fallopian tube and that the uterus lining looked thin. By this point I had zero pain and the DR felt reassured about that, but she was having an obstetrician look over my scans as well.
To make a long story short, the obstetrician could only review my 7 week scans because the recent ones I had done were sent to her in a file format she couldn't open (I had gone to 2 different places for my U/S). According to the 7 week scans the baby was completely within the uterus and there is nothing to be concerned about, but she does want me to get another U/S early this week so they can be sure that the baby isn't growing into my uterus lining.
So is it possible that some U/S techs really suck at their jobs and can skew a reading? Has anyone had the lining of the uterus or placement of the baby questioned? **End TW**
I am just a ball of nerves and one scared FT momma.
@kaceyallan oh that sounds stressful, I hope you get in for your US soon and all looks great! I haven't had experience with something like you describe, but with DS did get a call about something on the anatomy scan where they sent us for a follow up scan at MFM (with better equipment) "just as a precaution" (we were pretty anxious during the wait for that appointment) and MFM couldn't find any sign of what the tech etc had seen. They seemed to think the angle just hadn't been great for imaging that particular area with the original scan (totally not the tech's fault, she gave me juice, had me walk around etc to try and get the baby to switch positions), and said they err pretty far on the side of caution in getting people in again to check stuff out.
@kaceyallan I'm sorry for all of the stress and uncertainty! That's scary! Please keep us updated! I'll be praying for you and hoping it was just a silly error and the baby wiggles around a little and there are no issues!
@kiddiesandkitties I have been mia from the bump this week as I have had some spotting so 2 ultrasounds and a specialist referral later I am now “higher risk”. Still more questions at this point but I saw a wiggly baby and strong heartbeat so a bit of reassurance. *TW* It looks like we started out with twins but now there is just one. There is another irregular sac beside the one with baby who is measuring on track at 10w5 days. Anyone else gone through this? End TW*
@kaceyallan that is so tough. Not knowing is the hardest part. Playing the waiting game with you.
Any STMs show a lot faster this time around? I showed early and got very big with my first, to the point where no one believed I was having just one baby. Well this time I’m 10 weeks and bigger than I was at 25 weeks the first time! I’m honestly terrified of how big I’m going to get.
