Fit Mama Friday 2/8

What are you doing to stay active this week??? Chasing your toddler? Walking to the bathroom 2,000 times a day? Yoga? Gym?

Re: Fit Mama Friday 2/8

  • Definitely walking to the bathroom it seems like a million times a day at work. (I worry about folks in the offices near the bathroom side eyeing me) Yoga and Orangetheory this week plus walked to and from work yesterday. Going to *try* to make some kind of class this weekend since it'll be too cold for a long walk.

  • @heml where do you live that you can walk to/from work? That is awesome!

Rough week over here.  I worked out Monday, but was out of commission Tues-Thursday with a nasty stomach bug.  I am hoping to get a workout in today, tomorrow, and Sunday so that I can keep my goal of 4 a week.
  • @mkrel I live and work in downtown Austin. The temp dropped 40 degrees and started sleeting this morning so def drove today. Hope you’re feeling better!
  • @heml I love Austin! We live in Dallas (suburbs) and the weather is so cold here today too! TX winters certainly are odd, but I appreciate all of the nice days mixed in with the cold ones.
  • @heml that is awesome that you're keeping up your workout routine and walking to work.

@mkrel I love your determination. Don't beat yourself up if you don't get your 4 days this week. You didn't work out bc you were sick, not because you didn't feel like it. Sometimes rest can be the best thing after an illness

AFM, I went to yoga Monday, my regular class not a prenatal one. It has been almost 2 months since I've gone and my triceps were killing me! Last night I made it to a prenatal fitness class. I'm hoping to get back to the gym one day between today and Sunday. But I've also made my goal of 8000+ steps a day this week. It's been a long time since I've gotten my step goal everyday.

  • So I just recharged my Fitbit and planning to attempt the 10,000 steps a day for now.  Prior to getting pregnant I was running every morning and working towards a 5K but let’s just say first trimester kicked my butt... so feel like 2nd trimester I’ll have to ease back into being purposefully healthy/active
  • I've been trying to get a workout in a day- today was following a leg workout on pinterest but I've been sticking with indoor cycling and walking when I can. Apple watch is helpful for motivation.
  • I finally made it to barre and it was great. My body hurt for 3 days. I also realized I take 15-20 flights of stairs a day. Wow.

    *Live, Love, Laugh, Learn*

  • I did nothing last week. Yesterday, 15 minutes on the bike happened, squats with my exercise ball (5 reps of 12 slow with holds), kegels (20 reps of 10 second holds) and another pelvic floor exercise (laying on back and lifting pelvis with only core muscles tightened; started with 2 reps of 12), and side planks (started with 3 reps of 20 seconds lol). Man that felt great and my brain felt so much happier. We are gonna get some dumbbells this weekend for my arms.

In talking to other second time+ unmedicated childbirth ladies, they say the only thing to really prepare is cardio for endurance, pelvic floor muscles, leg muscles, and arm muscles. Pelvic floor because it can help shorten one of the labor/birth stages (don't remember which), leg and arm muscles because they say squatting and leaning will need lots of muscle strength during labor. Alright then. That's what I'll do. It's exciting to have landed into a routine I'm finally happy with.

  • @heml what kind of class are you going to go to?

@mkrel I hope you feel better!

@Avrilmai what kinds of things do you do in a prenatal fitness class?

@mama1824 were you going to do a specific 5k?

    @TinaTho I have a love/hate relationship with Apple Watch’s reminders

@AKuzReve I always wanted to try a barre class!

    @suzycupcake wow!  You go girl!

i only got my long run in on Monday.  I was busy the rest of the week and we had a field trip today so I’m too exhausted to run. We’re supposed to do 8 miles this weekend but my running BFF is running a race tomorrow (I’m so jealous I’m not doing it but no one else knows I’m pregnant and if I ran with the group, they’d know)  and it’s supposed to rain on Sunday so it looks like we’ll have to do it Monday night again
  • I’ve been feeling pretty good and ran my longest run so far this pregnancy - 7.5 miles earlier this week and additional shorter runs. My pace has slowed down significantly but hoping to keep running as long as I can.
  • @purplg8r (btw, I’m watching Florida gymnastics as I type this.) I’m doing another Orangetheory class tomorrow with a friend, then brunch to follow!

I’m so impressed @purplg8r and @sw1122 that y’all are still running. It was hurting my boobs too much. Have y’all purchased new/bigger sports bras? I haven’t yet but maybe that’s the problem...

@suzycupcake Way to go! Didn’t occur to me that I did still need to concentrate on arms but that makes sense.
  • @heml - I have smaller boobs and they haven’t really gotten much bigger, so it hasn’t been too uncomfortable while running. I normally wear light-support sports bras but have recently switched to this bra as it provides more support for running: https://www.champion.com/shop/champion/champion-the-show-off-sports-bra-ch1666?fromFacetResult=true&categoryId=21228
  • @heml I had to look up orangetheory, never heard of it.
@suzycupcake holy cow, go on with your bad self!!
In fact, all of you, bravo!

I came here thinking maybe I could find some motivation. I was a lot more active last pregnancy but this time HG got me down, and just recovering from a sinus infection. Now that I've got the right med combo, I did walk my dogs yesterday, and the trips up and down stairs 8000 times a day holding my 2 year old should help. I count walking all over London last week as one big workout for January, but I really need to get busy before this gets out of hand.

It's hard to get out, we're 30 mins from the gym and Germany is mostly cold and rainy right now. I got some resistance bands I need to start using. I looked on Instagram for workouts. What are your go-to fitness apps or accounts that you follow? I'm not a yoga person, found that out last pregnancy.

  • @heml Go Gators!  I have small boobs that have only gotten a little bigger.  I didn’t really notice them hurting when I ran (but it could be because my butt hurt from the PIO shits so that took my attention)
  • @suzycupcake Ha I can not get myself to do kegals... It feels so weird and unpleasant!
  • @aevan011 I’ve been using MommaStrong online. They have a prenatal fitness program that is $5 per month and includes a private FB group.

@law_and_little1 I feel as though we are all probably getting a kegel workout with all of this running to the bathroom we are doing. You’re right, it’s not very pleasant, but if it gives me better control during labor, I’ll take it.

  • @aevan011 have you tried Amazon Video or youtube for pregnancy appropriate workouts?

@purplg8r the workouts are similar to general fitness class, but she makes sure that we don't do anything high impact so we don't put undo pressure on the pelvic floor and nothing that involves crunching/working the upper abs. So we did bear planks, side planks, squats, lunges, light weight deadlifts, bicep and triceps work, a form of chest press and some walking.

sorry for the late response, thanks for the suggestions. I'll check them all out. Avrilmai, I haven't looked at Amazon yet but youtube is so overwhelming with so much selection!
