This year will probably be low key. DH’s youngest brother is coming home from overseas on the 11th (he just finished 6 years in the Air Force). So our usual date night sitters (MIL and FIL) will be tied up with getting him settled into life here again. Honestly with having two kids under 4 and two jobs, I’d be happy for a day off. Lol. We’ll probably do our usual- dinner and a movie- though.
We don't usually do anything for Valentine's Day, but when we bought our house (last April!), our realtor gave us a gift certificate to a nice restaurant nearby, so we're using Valentine's as an excuse to use it. And my husband will be getting a small gift for Nora!
So Nate decided to wake up at 1:30 am today. I didn't get to go to bed until 12 because of the stupid super bowl. So I get him around 3 because I couldn't open my eyes long enough to stand up until then. He fussed and tossed and turned and screamed until 5:30. I wake up DH because I've had enough and need to get ready for work. They lay down and Nate goes right to sleep...... There's not enough coffee in the world to get me through Monday. I'm gonna need my students to shut up and leave me alone today 😂
@mccurleya I just make the dough for the crust and then make it into a heart before I bake it. It usually looks heart- ish still after it bakes. I have also made meatloaf muffins and used mashed potatoes so it looks like frosting.
For halloween last year my kids requested a footloaf. It was shaped like a foot with and onion slice as severed leg and ketchup as blood.
After after months of sleeping with us Declan has slept the last 2 nights in his crib. Last night I gave him a bottle, a blanket, and his favorite little stuffy and put on his star turtle and laid in bed next to the crib. He went right to sleep. He slept from 9:30pm to 6:30am in there and then in our bed until 10.
@ashtuesday - Happy Birthday, Nora!!! And also hope your appointment goes well today (I think both are today). Is she our first baby in the group to turn 1?
Declan’s farthest is 12 steps. He gets excited and falls usually. He claps when he gets to his destination because we all do. The funniest is that he tries to carry large items like pillows and does better because he pays attention to thatand not walking.
Is it just me, or is anybody else feeling weepy with these babies heading in the big one? The first birthdays of the other two were tough, but this one is seeming harder. Maybe because it’s gone “faster” having two others or the fact that the kids are growing older and babyhood is so fleeting? I feeling myself getting teary eyes several times already and I still have a few more weeks. Ugh, it hurts my heart.
On a a different note, we don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. We don’t have a sitter and we are apprehensive about hiring someone we don’t know we’d have to take a second mortgage out for a few hours out! However, I bought these little mailboxes for the kids and my husband so starting tomorrow I’m going to do some cute little treat/trinket for them and a little homemade heart with a saying that goes along with the gift every day through Valentine’s. It’s been cold, dreary and icky we could use something bright.
@mccurleya Maeve’s more with Nate I’d say - she likes to pull her self up holding our hands, but is happiest to roll where she wants to go - not really crawling or standing on her own. She just figured out clapping. I love hearing what all the little ones are doing - because it is so different even though there so close in ages - it’s an amazing preview of their little personalities 😊
Oh my gosh, you guys are the best for remembering Nora's birthday - thank you so much for all of the birthday wishes!! My husband and I both took off to spend the day with her (a luxury we only locked in two weeks ago when I got good news about my next maternity leave), and it was a great time! Here she is blowing out the candles on her fake cake and devouring her real one.
I did also have my doctor's appointment today. They didn't measure baby's stomach - they said not enough time has passed since the last scan to show any growth that tells them anything one way or another, so I have to wait two more weeks. That was disappointing, but sounds right - everything I've read said all you can do is monitor until 32 weeks anyway, and I'm 30 today. The good news is my husband and I sat my doctor down to really discuss our concerns, and we both walked away feeling like he answered all of our questions and took us seriously. We feel better staying in his care. I randomly spoke to my endocrinologist about the whole situation with him recently too (they're not affiliated, she is just an amazing doctor) and she helped me put things in perspective and reminded me I can choose to deliver back at NYU whenever I damn well please if I do wind up feeling that's better for me.
I agree, it's so interesting hearing everyone's milestones! Nora walks with a "Learning Walker" toy my best friend got her, but shows no interest in taking steps otherwise. She did just start trying to climb the stairs to the second floor recently - but she'll only go up one stair before she reaches for you to get her lol. My favorite thing is she recently made the connection between waving and "Hi" and "Bye," and she understands what they mean. I took her to the park the other day and all she did was stare at the children until they looked at her, and then she would wave and say "Hi!" Tonight, she crawled over to the stairs when she was tired, waved at us and said "Bye!" as she tried to put herself to bed. It kills me!
@mmom3 I haven't felt too emotional about N turning 1, but she is my first and I have another on the way - there'll be another newborn in my life so soon, it feels strange to mourn Nora leaving that stage right now. I can fully imagine what you're saying though, and I know it must be hard! Also, while I was worried myself, we basically had no choice but to get a babysitter for Nora over the summer and I am now SO happy we did. The girl we found is a perfect fit and I know how much she genuinely loves Nora, and it's so comforting knowing we have her to turn to if we need. Like you said, it is NOT cheap to get a sitter, so we really don't see her as often as I'd like - but I'd say it's worth considering, if you're on the fence!
@ashtuesday So adorable! I'm glad you had a good talk with your doc and are feeling more comfortable with him. mccurleya I think Vinny is 6 days older than Nate? She was born 3/23. Her cruising is one or two tentative steps, and really only if I'm sitting right by her. Usually she'll sit down, move over and stands back up.
Her newest thing is that she hands objects to me and then waits for me to give them back. So sweet!
@mccurleya Maeve’s the 27th too - she wants to go so bad, lol - just doesn’t have the balance yet. She’s big on wanting to stand and she take steps holding our hands. I’m super excited because my cousin had a little girl on Wednesday and I’m hoping she and Maeve become good friends. @fatstagnation that is too cute.
Who is our next Birthday baby? I’m sorry for not knowing.
Well we started daycare today. I was all worked up thinking I am traumatizing him. I made MH come with me because I knew I would break down in the car. LO was so enthralled with all the new toys that he didnt even care when I said bye and left. Im currently waiting on access to the camera systems which is probably better since im sure I would watch them all day if I had access right now. I did cry when we left but Im keeping myself busy as hell this week. I started him a week early because i wanted to be completely available to answer questions or whatever they need. Ill probably pick him up early today too because right now I just miss my baby.
LOs bday is on 3/14 (he wasnt due until April 5th!) So just over a month until he is 1!! Crazy!
@sgrn18 You will make it through the day, mama! I'm so glad he was so happy playing with all the new toys - that is a good thing! Give us a full report on how the day wound up going - for both him and you - when you can!
Re: February Randoms

@mccurleya that sounds awful! Hope you get some better rest tonight!
@megpeg heart shaped pizza sounds cute! How do you shape it?

@sgrn18 yay for walking!
How is everyone doing?
Oh dear. I'm not ready for that either. Nate was the last of the group so I have time but y'all this growing up thing is awful.
I also can't believe you're little ones are walking. Vinny is just starting to cruise.

@mmom3 I feel exactly the same way. I hate even thinking about it. I was so excited for my oldest and this one seems the complete opposite.
