Symptoms 1/30

Re: Symptoms 1/30

  • I'm convinced constipation and all of the digestive issues are nature's way of giving us practice for labor.  I've read at least three blogs now that equate labor to having a large bowel movement .  I should be very prepared by April.

  • @kangstadt I’ve actially heard that too! That is not how I felt when I was giving birth the first time, at all. But I actually remember my mom claiming she needed to go to the bathroom and the doctor telling her “no. You’re having the baby.”
  • @professormama, I couldn't feel anything because of my epidural (so couldn't even feel to help push), but I do remember being concerned about pooping on the bed .  So maybe it was a similar feeling for me?  Not sure.  I'm trying to go without medication this time, we'll see what comparisons I draw after that....

  • @kangatadt Sorta makes sense though. You use all the same muscles and more. I’ve actually never understood the fear of pooping during labor for that reason. They tell you to act as if you have to take a huge poop.

Thats the instructions I remember most, “bear down and pretend you have to take a huge poop.” 💩

  • @kangstadt I did sans medication and plan to again. There’s pretty much no amount of money you could pay me to let someone near my spine with a needle. I was mad I even had to have an IV. I really, really hate needles. I will say- my birth experience was seriously aided by Ambien though! I was induced and was only 1cm dilated when it started, so I was in labor for a total of 27 hours. After 24 hours of labor I was sooooo tired I begged for something to help me sleep (that didn’t involve a needle). They gave me an Ambien and it relaxed me I guess and kickstarted labor. In 3 hours I went from 1cm dilated to having a baby in my arms! Lol
  • @kangstadt thats what I said! If labor is any worse than trying to pass an impacted stool I'm going to die.
  • Heartburn has now turned from a random annoyance to a constant companion. I was up 3 times last night for it and can't shake it this morning either. Not ready for another 10 weeks of this...

  • +1 for bad pelvis/hip/SI pain.  Feel like I'm starting to walk funny.

Still super itchy in the evenings and ruq pain.  My OB called me at work yesterday with my bile acid levels that were drawn last week and said they're officially diagnosing intrahepatic cholestasis. I guess the next step is fetal assessment and US this week and we'll have the talk about early induction.  I know a few of you know a bit about this... anyone have any experience with it?
  • Lol about pushing out a poop. I too had an epidural so I didn’t feel it, but if the crazy hemmorroids I had afterward are any indication, yes, it’s the same muscles used to bear down. Haha! But this did remind me I didn’t poop on the bed the first time but now I’m worried about it again for this one. 😂
  • @HGRich, I think my body "cleaned itself out," pretty well leading up to labor, and I was past caring at that point even if I did, haha.  I also instructed DH to lie and say I didn't poop even if it happened, lol.

  • @kangstadt haha! I actually told my H that too. I had heard that pre labor cleaning out is normal but I didn’t have much of it. I wonder if I will this time.
  • @professormama I took a half of ambien once and I hallucinated so badly that I refuse to ever take one again lol.

On labor feeling like having to poop. It didn’t with my first  but it definitely did with my second.  But it was way more painful than constipation lol
  • What is intrahepatic cholestasis?
  • @kristenhk I have no experience but keep us posted and I have my finger and toes crossed for you.

@mighty_montgomery it’s something that can pop up and has to do with the liver malfunctioning and not moving bile along to the small intestine (if I remember right). It usually presents itself as a super itchiness to the hands and feet. Can cause complications for mom and baby and generally leads to early delivery. I’m not sure what the cause is but I think it usually is fixed by delivery, or shortly thereafter.

  • @thatbaintforbetty thanks  :) hoping it's not a big deal and things keep going ok.

@mighty_montgomery what @thatbaintforbetty said is basically all I know of it too.  I've been having super itchy lower legs and feet (mostly just in the evenings which seemed weird) and bad right abdominal pain.  Told my ob about it in November and she's been watching my bile acids which she said when elevated in pregnancy with the severe itching is indicative of cholestasis.  She didn't seem too worried on the phone but said she isn't that familiar with it so will consult fetal assessment cause it usually leads to early induction.  I'll keep you guys posted!
  • @kristenhk I’m having a c-section at 36+4 due to placenta previa. How early are they talking about?

@mrstmoose she didn't say over the phone, but I don't think that early!  From what I've read it seems to be between the 37-38 mark depending on the levels and fetal assessment.  Your c-section date is a for sure thing?  She seemed like this is a play it by ear situation but maybe that's cause she isn't familiar with it? :/ not sure.

ETA:  I did read a few medical journals that talked about induction at 35/36 weeks but it was for really extreme cases with bile acid levels much higher than mine and proven fetal distress.  I'm sure I'm just over worrying   :)
  • @kristenhk my cousin had that and they induced between 37 and 38 weeks. She’s pregnant with her second now (due in May) and the doctors are monitoring her levels Incase she gets it again.

My reflux has appeared and skyrocketed this past week. I feel like everything triggers it, even water. I just alternate between reflux, nausea, and starving all day long. I eat a pretty bland diet as it is but literally nothing sounds good or it triggers the reflux. Anyone have any food suggestions for reflux?
  • @kristenhk it’s set because under no circumstance can I go into labor on my own or I risk hemorrhaging. It’s definitely a different situation than yours. Not ideal either but I’m trying not to panic.
  • @blueberrymomma my suggestion is Prilosec! For real. Are you taking a proton pump inhibitor yet though? Because I was having terrible reflux as well (nausea etc) and my doc assured me that it’s totally safe during pregnancy. I’m on a prescription one and it’s a miracle.
  • @blueberrymomma that sounds like the reflux I had with DD. Nothing helped. The plus side was that I didn’t gain much weight. Haha. But I had to stay away from everything acidic, and most proteins. Chicken and eggs was about all I could handle for protein. Avoid greasy, too. I also slept upright on a high wedge pillow at night and that helped. Maybe potatoes, pasta?
  • @blueberrymomma nothing fried, nothing acidic like @HGRich said. Carbs were my friend with my reflux. Also, I didn’t drink any liquids with meals and stopped drinking cold water too. I’ve managed to keep my reflux at bay since week 21 or so (had it from 12-21 weeks) with a low dose of Zantac too.
  • @mrstmoose I'm sorry you have to deal with pp but are you at least a little excited you have a set date to meet your baby!?
Pp is scary my mom had it and ended up with a stillbirth. (Not to scare anyone it was a special situation not common)
  • Some diarrhea/period like cramps yesterday. No actual diarrhea. Diarrhea/period cramps through the night. Couldn't tell if I had to run to the restroom or not; I tried once this morning and didn't have to go so I think it's just period-like. Until yesterday, my cramps have been all low in the abdomen. They were around baby this time which made me think I was going to have the runs.
My normal period cramps feel identical to diarrhea cramps.

Also, CT has gotten worse- pain in my wrist and finger joints wake me up a couple times a night lately. So swollen.
  • @mighty_montgomery I had the same thing yesterday. Period like cramps and felt like I was going to have diarrhea. Nothing came of it, I ended up taking a 1hr nap and woke up feeling better. I’ve been drinking lots of water today in case my symptoms were due to something I ate yesterday.
  • Feeling extra emotional recently and mostly on the b*tchy end of the spectrum. Also I've been trying to get some house stuff done and I just have no stamina, especially if it involves any bending over. I'm hoping that I'll gain back some of my regular mobility once baby arrives, because this is very frustrating!! Any stretches or advice? Should I just give up on bending over for the next 10 weeks?
  • @mrstmoose oh ok that makes sense.  Definitely must be nerve wracking so I'm glad they have a set date for you!
  • @kayceebaby1, try to squat instead of bending over so you don't put too much strain on your back.  If your low back or hamstrings are tight, you could try some prenatal yoga stretches (downward dog is a good one for hamstrings).  I've given up on trying to bend over to put my socks on, so I mostly sit down and cross one leg on the other to get them on, haha.

  • @kangstadt Yea I’ve pretty much given up on bending over at this point. I tried to get my pants off a couple days ago and freaking fell over, it was sad and hilarious. Thankfully DH was there to laugh and help me up.

  • Thanks ladies. I did take Zantac with my first which helped so I’ll bring it up at my next appt if it doesn’t subside before than.
  • @thatbaintforbetty, I can never decide if I'm grateful to my husband for being light hearted about my limitations or if I hate him just a bit for laughing at me...

  • My belly button is still an innie at 31+4! A very very tiny innie, but an innie still!
  • My belly button is still an innie at 31+4! A very very tiny innie, but an innie still!
Yeah, I had asked my husband eariler if he thinks I have a flattie or an innie and he says innie lol!

  • With my first pregnancy I had an innie into the third trimester. This time around I’ve had an outie belly button since basically the first week of the second tri. Like, I was barely showing and my belly button had already popped out.
  • suchagoodone  :D haha! We've been joking about how small mine has been getting and how the skin around it is do soft because it used to be inside my belly button.
  • My belly button never popped out last time. But I pretty much have a black hole belly button that goes deep down to forever. It’s still an innie now but it’s getting shallower. I’m curious to see what will happen later on.

  • Is heartburn after having not eaten for 4 hours a thing? Because that can go ahead and stop.

Also, belly button appears as deep as ever.

Ditto. Mine didn’t pop with the first two but who know with 9+/- weeks to go
  • @lyse01 Mine is always worse when I haven’t eaten. Actually since being on the GD diet and having to eat every couple of hours my heartburn has been almost nonexistent. Which probably means is an acid reflux issue vs true heartburn.
