Re: UO/FFC 1/24

  • 1. I don't like halos on engagement rings.
    2. I have zero interest in either watching Tidying Up or konmari-ing my house.

  • @MRDCle what? Halos are so pretty! Though I have no idea how they sit next to a wedding ring.

i don’t like wedding rings with swoops to accommodate the engagement ring - I think they should stand alone.
  • @mrdcle I love the look of engagement rings(and most rings). But I don’t know how most people deal with them. I just wear a wedding band, partly because I feel like i would end up losing a stone from the day to day wear on it and that would break my heart (and a bank account probably). But mostly because I don’t understand how people wear them and don’t scratch the hell out of themselves constantly or catch it on everything. Cause that’s what happened every time I have tried a ring that has any profile.

I also have a plain band right hand ring that I wear when not pregnant and swollen. But I’m also exceedingly rough on things unintentionally. I wear things into the ground (clothes, shoes, purses, etc) before replacing them usually because I don’t have a great variety of things I like enough.

Like I don’t understand having 5 purses and switching them out periodically. I don’t understand finding 5 I like enough to own or spending the time/energy to move stuff. (Does not include super fancy one off occasions)

  • @thatbaintforbetty I wear my engagement ring all the time and I'll tell you, I definitely scratch the shit out of myself with it! I also get it stuck in my hair sometimes when I'm throwing it up into a ponytail. I guess you just get used to it after a while... now I feel naked without my rings!

@MRDCle I have no interest in Marie-Kondo-ing either. Personally, if I don't find something useful, I don't buy it in the first place. If someone gifts us something that doesn't work for us, I wait a polite amount of time then throw it out. I've never kept stuff around my house that doesn't have a purpose for me, so I've never felt the need to do the whole Marie Kondo thing.

My UO... I think cake is gross. Like actually disgusting... I don't get why people like it. We had cake at our wedding because we were expected to, and honestly I regret it so much. And everyone is always offering me cake (its pretty well known that I love to eat) and no one seems to believe me that I don't like it. I have similar feelings about toast... its just dry bread...

Also... what does FFC stand for again?? I was able to find the acronym definition a while ago but can't seem to again... and now I've forgotten...
  • @MRDCle - I haven't watched the marie kondo show but I am only slightly interested bc DH and I are VERY organized and I feel like most of it we do already. We go through our drawers and clothes at least twice a year and DH loves to throw things away.

@kate_e_nb OMG! no cake! That is totally unacceptable.

I didn't wear my ring for quite some time after DD was born bc I didn't want to scratch her. I haven't worn any rings in a few weeks. I have a weird nickle allergy that normally only affects me with earrings. I always know I am pregnant when my wedding band starts itching (there is a little nickle in gold rings) it takes a little longer for my engagement ring to bother me but it already happened.

  • @kate_e_nb flame free (usually Friday) confession.

On the cake front, I think fondant is like eating paste. But cake itself? Yum. Just, y’know, as long as it is moist and flavorful, which basically means not a yellow cake in my book. I have decided that cakes shouldn’t try too hard to cater to everyone’s tastes, or they become boring.
  • My engagement ring and wedding band are fused, and I broke the engagement ring almost a year ago - sheered off one of the brackets holding the main diamond. I have the diamond and ring, but haven’t gotten them repaired. Have been wearing other rings in the mean time. Right now I have my grandmothers wedding ring. Very simple band with 5 tiny in-set diamonds and I love it sooooo much.

I love cake and cookies. Chocolate Icing from a can is basically the best substance sold in a grocery store.
  • Mmmm cake. I love a good cake, agree on not a fan of fondant.  I actually don’t really get the mirror cake trend either but that might be because I’m still asking why I’m regards to gelatin. But a good buttercream or chocolate ganache or cream cheese frosting? Hell yea.

    Now I have a need for carrot cake I can’t have. 🙁

i like the  idea of Marie Kindo-ing  our space but that might be because I think DH and I hold on to too much useless shit.

  • I definitely think I have too much shit and I know that we should declutter (we've been doing quite a bit during our attempts at a renovation) but I just feel like watching the show is going to give me a lot of unnecessary guilt over not having a perfect house and not having the time/energy for reorganizing all our stuff.
    Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • I love cake but hate any frosting other than whipped or the kind you can buy in the can at the store. So basically, I loathe buttercream frosting and think fondant is a waste of money.

FFC: I let DD eat half a chocolate chip oatmeal cookie for breakfast because it was easier than hearing her meltdown.
  • Add me to the cake hating club. Only cake I like is tres leches cake.
My engagement ring is a halo. I personally find it really beautiful. I have really, really tiny hands and it suits their size. I wear it daily along with my wedding band. The only thing that used to bother me about them is that they’d spin around on my finger, even though they’ve both been sized and have sizing beads. But now I guess my fingers are finally swelling and they fit perfectly, haha.

No FFC for me, really. But I did confess the other day in randoms to still sleeping with/collecting stuffed animals.
  • I do miss my rings. But the fear of them just not coming off some day soon was too much. So, I cleaned em and packed them away until these sausage fingers of mine go back to normal.
    Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • @MRDCle I feel like I’m getting there soon. They’ll probably come off within the next couple of weeks for me!
  • I, too, have a halo ring and love it. However, I worry that I will like it less over time as they do seem to be more of a "trend" these days. And it's heavy! But yeah, I took that and my wedding band off weeks ago. My fingers don't look swollen, but the rings were getting tight and I was terrified of them getting stuck. @lyse01 I'm with you on not liking the shaped wedding band to accommodate the wedding band. It looks weird and I like that my 2 rings can stand alone. My halo fits fine up against my band. @thatbaintforbetty I've never scratched myself with my ring! I doubt I'll wear it after the babe comes, though, because I'll worry about scratching him/her.
  • I love a good cake with buttercream frosting.  I also love cup cakes. We had those instead of cake at our wedding. Made for easier clean up and they were beautiful!

We have to many things, and I really want to declutter.  All in good time.  I might give it a shot with my grad school books that I kept because I was pissed they were only going to offer me $5 for a $150 book.  Silly me, now , 10 years later, I get nothing for them and they don't bring be joy so I need to get rid of them!! ;)
  • @browneyes88-2 When we last moved I took all my old textbooks to goodwill and it was amazing. Half the backseat of my car was full from books from like middle school to college. I am never going to need or use them and have no idea why I kept them.

  • @mrstmoose - wait thats not an acceptable breakfast? Yesterday we gave DD a snack bag of cookies and some fruit lol. we usually do a bagel or breakfast bar of some sort before we ship her off to daycare. She has been asking for cookies at night and we wont let her have them before bed so I figured the morning is better

  • I looooove cake but I don't like buttercream.  It just tastes like sweet butter and I hate the way it coats my mouth.  I think I can confidently say I could crush an entire angel food cake to myself.  It's like clouds of heaven.

I don't think I have any good UOs or confessions this week.  I have been telling everyone at work how busy I am when I'm really not.  I've gotten very efficient at my tasks so I can finish them and then just chill out a bit in the same time it used to take me to complete them.  Though I don't think that's a very juicy confession.

  • +1 to hating fondant, it's so bad!

I don't mind halos, but when you put one on something bigger than a carat/carat and a half, I feel like it takes away from the beauty of the stone. Something that big or bigger doesn't need enhancement IMO.

I also haven't had any desire to watch Tidying Up

  • My engagement ring is pretty low profile (bezel setting I think??) so it doesn’t scratch me or catch on anything, but it did require a small notch/bend in my wedding band. It’s pretty subtle and I’ve never felt the need to wear my band on it’s own.
  • I love cake, but prefer little to no frosting.

I just had to look up what a halo is.. I'm clearly out of touch when it comes to rings, lol.

I read Marie Kondo's book a few years ago and purged our apartment. We are still messy somewhat minimalists, and that's fine with me.

  • Ive watched all the episodes of Tidying up and enjoyed it. However, some of the people on there annoyed the shit out of me. Especially the wife/mother in episode 1. My god get up off your ass and get shit done, stop crying.

I frequently just wear my wedding band and I only wear my rings when I am going out/working.
  • Also not a fan of Halo wedding rings but I've seen a few that are pretty

I hate fondant and whipped frosting but I'll take alllllllll the buttercream on cake

Konmari method has been so therapeutic for my anxiety, we have way too much crap and it wasn't organized so having decluttered and reorganized saved my sanity

My confession for today is that I puked into my hands at work today, it was so embarrassing!

UO: I hate cereal with milk, I don't want it all soggy
  • My engagement ring sticks out quite a bit too, but I only wear it when I go anywhere, so it doesn’t bother me. I quit wearing my rings at all at home when DD was born and I became a SAHM. I didn’t want to poke her.

I like cake. I will always choose cookies or ice cream over it, but it’s pretty good. Not with fondant.

My FFC I guess is that I’ve eaten far more deli meat and packaged salads this pregnancy than I allowed myself when prego with DD (which was zero).
  • All this cake chat is killing me. It’s a good thing it’s gross and rainy today or I would stop by the bakery on the way home and make some Bad Choices.

I like the KonMari approach- I think it gets misrepresented as ‘throw all your stuff out’, when it focuses a lot more on getting rid of things you don’t like or use. Clean until you’re happy with the place, and only bring in new things if you’ve thought about it.

UO: Chicken breast is definitely the worst part of the chicken. So bland, so easy to make dry and boring.
  • @booksandlace I totally puked in my hands sitting in my car a few weeks ago. I was coughing so hard I couldn't hold it in. I also peed myself at the same time.
  • My ering has a halo and basket setting.  I wear it all the time and have never had an issue with it getting caught or scratching myself.

We're moving next year so decluttering is a priority. But asking myself if something "brings me joy" is a f*cking joke.

You can send me all the cake @kate_e_nb!

FFC: I love that MIL doesn't know what baby is and that shes PISSED we know and haven't told her.  She keeps saying it's a girl because then we'll need 'so much stuff' that she can buy us.  Back off lady, we can provide for our own kids AND ITS A BOY!

  • @HGRich I have stayed away from deli meat cause it has held no appeal but I have to have all veggies so packaged salad has been pretty frequent. And I absolutely know that the salad is more of a risk then the damn meat but GD says eat all the veggies.

Seriously its all “fruits and veggies and deli meats are a health risk!” But also “pre packaged food is full of extra additives and bad for you!”

What the hell is left? Clearly this has been on my mind and an ongoing issue.

  • I think my UO (get ready for some irony....) is all the abbreviations online these days (I sound like an old person).  Things like FWIW, IMHO there are more, I know there are.  I always have to google them and it makes me crazy.  Maybe because I had to take typing in college and I'm fairly quick at it I don't see the point especially for phrases.  AFAIK - no.  Just no.  And don't wish me a "HBD" if you can't take the time to actually wish me a happy birthday with real words then just go.

  • Okay, I also have to look up what a halo ring is... and my wedding band is curved to fit my engagement ring, which I'll admit I didn't think I would like at first (DH picked them out by himself, I'm so proud), but I love it.  It's very dainty and subtle, which fits me.

I'm going to be devil's advocate and say those of you who don't like buttercream have not tried Swiss or Italian buttercream (they have a meringue base and are more common in Europe than the traditional super heavy American buttercream).  I don't like how heavy American buttercream is either, but I can eat my Swiss BC with a spoon.  Mmm....

I agree that watching any kind of "get your life decluttered/together," show would probably give me major anxiety at this point.  Especially because we're broke so I'm not even sure how we're going to finish the nursery much less declutter/come up with storage solutions anywhere else .

  • Had to look up halo wedding ring too. And I’m guilty of one. It feels vintage and like @kosmo86 it’s tanzanite. I picked it out myself and wish I could wear it more but after my first DS my fingers never fit back in. I do wear my simple/plain wedding band all the time and feel naked without it.

We’ve been cleaning and decluttering since the start of this pregnancy but Marie has re inspired us. And knowing we’ll be moving from NYC to So Cal about 3 months after the baby I’m trying to get a lot done.

I tolerate cake but would much prefer a delicious pie.
  • I got a good FFC: My mom is kind of crazy (in a clinical kind of way) and we have a weird relationship. Instead of just asking me what the babies name was, She tried to get it out of DD (who is 2). I was pissed bc she thought I wouldn't tell her so she tried to use a 2 year old! The funny thing is I WOULD have just told her. But now I am being petty and since she still has yet (its been weeks since the incident) to even try to ask me I refuse to tell her but pretty much the whole world knows. (it's Violet)

  • Fffc: So I posted (in the week 3 check in a couple weeks ago) that I had a name should our very hypothetical third child be another girl. Well now not only do I have a first name but I also thought of a middle name and got my DH to agree to it.

Yet this kid still has no middle name.
