Hey ladies- sorry been mia and it’s hard to post when I’m never on my computer. Baby is making good progress in the nicu and is off everything but the feeding tube. We started attempting breastfeeding a week ago and he is slowly getting better. Will start bottles tonight. Probably still 2 weeks before he can come home, but just trying to be patient!

@knottie7777- so glad you are getting started soon! Let’s do this!

@rachelh0912- so glad the scan was perfect!! You deserve this after waiting sooo long!!

@c-town18- thanks for asking! How is your baby doing?!

@JamieH2000 I heard you on the podcast !!! I didn’t figure out it was you until the part about your previous donor and I was like omg I know this story ! 😂😂 how nice of you to share your story , loved listening to it . I can totally relate to you about the timing being off since I need 36 hours more of progesterone and the what if’s of had we used our own eggs with the right timing would it have worked . Our stories are so similar ! We started trying at 29 and now I’m 34 .
  • Options
@c-town18 Aww yea we are all having boys!! Glad he’s doing well and growing

@JamieH2000 yes, I couldn’t believe my ears when the tech told us we are having 2 boys.  Was hoping for a boy and a girl but this indeed is a blessing too.  How’s your little one doing?  How much longer will he have to be in NICU?

@knottie7777 it’s difficult but hopefully we achieve the goal, which is to have a family.

    @abc0417 Congrats!
I wish I had two boys too! But now I have only one. But we are planning to have one more boy)))

@knottie7777- o yes I should have shared that I was a guest on Beat infertility this week! It is crazy how similar our stories are. Unfortunately there are a lot of us out there but unless we connect on here it doesn’t feel like it!

@adc0417- I totally get wanting one of each! Baby is doing well, just has to master feeding now. Hopefully only another week or two!

Hi ladies - sorry for being MIA! The past few weeks have been a little crazy with family visiting, having to say goodbye to our beloved pup, work travel, and (a so very needed) vacation. I haven't been on my computer much. It looks like I've missed a lot of wonderful updates - what a great start to the year!

@JamieH2000 and @c-town18 - congrats on your little ones - hope you're soaking up all of the newborn snuggles and baby rolls! (and, @c-town18, more than happy to talk BRCA mutations - just let me know)

@knottie7777 - Any word from your insurance? Have you guys selected a donor yet? You must be getting excited!

@rachelh0912 - Sounds like your scan went perfectly! When do you get to see your little bean next?

AFM, we've decided to push our transfer time frame back a little. We were looking at our schedules and the DE stuff started to feel too much like another thing on our our to do list, being squished in between everything else on our calendars. We found a ~6 week stretch in April/May that's quiet schedule wise, so we are aiming for that instead. Feeling a lot better now that we've made that decision. I think with the madness of the past few weeks, mentally, I just needed some breathing room.

We haven't yet settled on a donor. Any words of advice for making that choice? I'm kinda hoping I just have a feeling that says "she's the one".... is that crazy?
  • Options
@avocado4one we do already have a donor . We got insurance approval for the transfer part so we should be shooting to transfer by end of February !! As far as choosing a donor , it took us about 5 months , we were so picky and we did get that “she’s the one “ feeling ! The donor looks really similar to me , similar ethnic background and personality wise sounds very similar to my husband so it seemed to be a perfect match . Also she’s a proven donor which was a big plus for us . Good luck with your search !!
  • Options
@knottie7777 Excited to hear that you got approval for the transfer! February is a short month! yay!

@avocado4one I am sure everybody is different, but for me: I was interested in physical traits that would resemble me but I knew she wouldn't be my twin. I prioritized a couple of physical traits like curly hair and height since these are two distinctive things about me but we prioritized character/personality and genetics too. DH and I looked separately and selected some favorites and then came together to see if we had any of the same. After looking more closely at a couple of those, we looked at the pool again and there was a new donor - and I totally got that feeling like she was the one. It was a gut feeling and a reaction to one of her childhood photos - it was the only time I felt that way - mostly because I could see a slight resemblance - super surface level stuff, but fortunately, she also matched our criteria and though she was not proven (this was her first donation), we chose her and it worked out!

Thanks @knottie7777, @fivetimesnoluck - I really appreciate you sharing! It's good to know that's not an unrealistic expectation. There are times when we are going through profiles and our practical selves think a number of the girls would work just fine... which really isn't a bad position to be in... I'm just really hoping that we'll be able to find one that we have an emotional draw to as well.

    Hi Ladies....

Hi all. I wanted to introduce myself, since you will probably be seeing me on this board. In June DH and I tried IVF using my own eggs, but was unsuccessful due to AMH or DOR issues. We tried 3 different protocols with the RE and I produced no follicles. We will be using donor egg to grow our family, I’m 43, so I knew age could be a factor as well. We are extremely nervously, but very excited to be starting this journey. We will be starting our cycle in March!!! We are doing a shared program with another couple and the donor will start stims the first week of March. I will be doing a medicated FET.

I wish you all luck in your own Journeys devastated .

Welcome to the club, @rondah28! I'm also new to the donor egg process (we just started down this road a few months ago). It sounds like you have a good plan underway though - March is right around the corner! How exciting!

Yay! That's such great news,@knottie7777! I was wondering how your cycle was going. Keeping my fingers crossed those embryos keep growing!

AFM, I think we may have found our donor (!). She is a carrier for two genetic mutations, so we want to get DH tested before we fully commit, but an exciting step forward!

rondah28 - Welcome!  Wow, your DE retrieval is not that far off at all!  Keep up posted as you're getting updates, we're all rooting for you.

avocado4one - Sounds like you found potential donor which is awesome!  This advice is moot if you found your donor already, but I wanted to say that I know what you mean about there being lots of suitable candidates but holding out for one that you have more of an emotional draw to; I'm glad we didn't just settle but found a donor that we had a special feeling about.  However, I did get a "she's the one" feeling more than once; the first one that I felt really strongly about turned out to be a flake/just not a good donor but I ignored the red flags and lost a lot of time and money since I felt so strongly that she was "the one".  So that's my advice, it's OK to expect and hold out for someone you feel a connection to but don't get blinders about it if there happen to be red flags, just listen to your gut and move on. There will be others.

knottie7777 - Any update from you?  Is today transfer day??!

@c-town18 yes I had my transfer yesterday !!! It went well other than the fact I had to pre so bad it hurt so they had to let me go pee a little and count to 5 but it’s so hard to stop hahaha but oh well ! So they are still watching some to freeze so I’m waiting to see how many are able to be frozen . Fingers crossed! Beta will be March 5th

knottie7777 - Congrats on being PUPO!!  Oooh, how exciting! Did you transfer 1 or 2?  Yeah, I remember I was all stressed after my transfer because I didn't feel like my bladder was full enough (opposite of you), but it ended up being successful so it all worked out.  Do you think you'll test at home or hold out for the beta??
  • Options
Thank you !! We transferred one . I had a major surgery a few months ago for endometriosis and fibroids so much lll have to have a csection someday and they said it’s too risky to put 2 in . I’m definitely going to wait for beta and not test at home , I’m too scared from 5 years of negative pregnancy tests . My doctor keeps reminding me this is a whole new ball game now so I’m hoping this is finally it !

Hi everyone. New lurker here 🤓 we are considering the DE route and I was just wondering, emotionally, how people decided to move forward on this front. Idk why but I’m so worried the kid would grow up and love their DE mom than me!
  • Options
Hi @lucyb1954 - welcome. Your fear is totally natural. I think it is probably something most of us have thought or worried about. My husband and I talked through the decision a lot - honestly and openly. I’ve also used therapy as a source of support for years and certainly brought it up there to talk through it. In the end, I knew if I was considering adoption then there’s no reason I should not consider this option too. Experiencing pregnancy was something I really wanted and now that I’m on the other side, I can say that I’m so grateful. It’s a major decision and should be weighed carefully but for me, the upsides far outweighed any negatives.
