@kristimh80 I somehow missed your post last night, yes, it’s 5 days before my due date, which is actually when I had my 3 year old! (5 days before he was due). We’ll see if this one stays in until the 31st. I get a lot of contractions and cramping lately. My OB offered to check me yesterday since he was doing the strep B test (fun), but I know it doesn’t really matter and I could be 0 or 2cm and stay that way forever or change overnight, so I declined.

I called the specialist’s office and the woman I spoke to said she would talk to the manager and get back to me. She pulled up his notes from my prior appointment when he said the arrythmia was not a concern etc so hopefully it shows he didn’t need to do another echo. We’ll see.

AFM: NST went well again this morning. Dr. actually congratulated me on losing 2 lbs in the last week. I told him it wasn't for lack of trying and not sure how that happened because I feel like I eat constantly lately.

My BP was up again, 142/89. I tested at home afterwards though and it was 128/82. No protein and no other symptoms of pre-e. I honestly think it's partly a muscle memory issue when I enter the doctors office, is that possible?

@halips Good to hear you had a good dr appt! My MIL call it "white coat syndrome" when it comes to BP. She makes them wait and take her's at the end because it's always a lot higher right when she gets there. lol

My H also has high BP when it’s taken initially. He’s always amazed that I’m such an anxious person and my BP is always like 110/60 yet he’s chill and it’s always high.

@mayflower513 c-section sisters! FX you get that billing issue fixed and that little muffin stays in the oven all the way to c-sec day!

@halips I've heard of people who're like that - BP goes up when they're at the doctor's. I would ask them to wait with checking your BP until the middle or end of your appointment and see if that makes a difference.

How far along? EDD? 34+4, c-sec still scheduled for 1/31
How is everyone feeling this week? not so good, this pregnancy is really kicking my butt. Heat flashes, bad sleep, crampy legs, stuffy nose and heartburn. The thing that keeps me going is knowing baby is doing good in there and spending quality time with my kids.
Any upcoming appointments? OB yesterday was good, everything is just as it's supposed to be. Next one in two weeks.
GTKY: What foods can you not wait to eat when baby comes? Sushi and lunch meats. And medium well steak. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Thanks @more14! I didn’t realize you were scheduled on the 31st too - I added that! I just ordered a bunch of comfy clothes for the hospital stay (and beyond) today! I have no idea what to expect.

My best tip is to bring nice baggy pants with a loose waist. You will not want anything pressing on that scar!

Well I found out yesterday that my OB's last day is March 1st, so she won't be there for my delivery unless something crazy happens. I'll see another OB at my growth scan...really hoping I like her. I wasn't planning on a new dr at this point

@northbeach3 Thanks! My office has several as well...so in reality, I probably could have still gotten someone else lol My SIL goes to this other one and loves her, so I'm sure I will too. My OB I knew before I went to her, she did IVF as well and understood all our concerns so was comforting. Guess now we are just reg old preggo, so it probably is fine. I'm just a hormonal mess lol

@mayflower513 For c section, the big thing is to move around as soon as they take your catheter out and give yippy the all clear. I know it seems counterintuitive to move around after major stomach surgery, but it is a huge help for recovery. Even if you only walk to the bathroom and back, it's better than nothing. Ask for a belly binder, it really helps. Stay on top of your pain meds, trust me. The more you get up and move, the less your pain will be overall. If you plan to nurse, a boppy offers great protection for your stomach.

YES! Push yourself as much as you can to get up and move around once you get the clear. It helps SOOO much. It will hurt at first but moving will actually eventually make you feel better. I had great recovery in the hospital since my husband went home to get some rest for a couple hours every night and so I had to get up and take care of baby. Really moved things along faster I think.

Tips for C-section

Before you even get to the hospital, I highly recommend to call your insurance and check how many days they cover (assuming everything goes well). Some insurances cover 3, some cover 5 and it's important to know what your insurance does.

I would also talk to your doctor and ask about the procedure itself and how they prefer doing it.

My women's hospital is next to the children's hospital so for my twins, who were technically pre-term (1 day shy of full term for twins), they had a team of 1 doctor and 2 nurses for each child from the children's hospital, waiting in the room to check each kid, just in case.

After I came out to the recovery room, we did skin to skin and tried nursing a little but because I had two, it was a bit more complicated. I have to say, the anesthesia made me really sleepy and I think I actually fell asleep once we got to my room in the maternity ward. But, 2 hours after the surgery, the nurses came to check me and had me walking to the bathroom and peeing while the nurse was standing there. A bit embarrassing but they need to make sure your organs are functioning again.

Like everyone above me have said already - move. Moving makes recovery go faster. I was walking around the nurse's station that evening and by the time I got home I was back to normal. I didn't experience any pain, but that's because I did pain management and I did take the pain medication they gave me at the hospital. But I think I weened myself before I finished all the pills.

Breastfeeding! Milk production might be delayed when having a c-section so don't worry if that happens. It might take 3-4 days (or was it 4-5?) for your production to really kick in so speak with your doctor about it and if you need, I'm sure they will provide you with a pump to get things started.

Water retention might be an issue (because hello, leftover amniotic fluid needs to go somewhere), so don't be alarmed if you look at your feet and suddenly they are x3 the normal size. Walking about helps but it could take 2-3 weeks before you feet are back to normal.

My hospital provided me with mesh underwear and pads after, but I was more comfortable with my own. Bring underwear that go over the belly, but you might like the mesh ones (I've heard a lot of girls wished they had more of them to take home). I would avoid pants, but that's just me. I did night gowns for the hospital stay and a dress for going home.

I also suggest a robe. Something soft and comfy because hello hormones and you're all nice a cozy one moment and boiling hot the next. So something that's easy to put on and off was really useful.

You won't be able to put anything on the incision while in the hospital, but ask your doctor when you can start putting anti-scaring cream on it.

You'll be in the hospital for at least 3 days so pack accordingly and have your hospital bag ready.

I would pack shower shoes and a few comfy socks, if you're a socks person.

I also highly recommend giving your child to the nurses for the night, if that is an option. The first night you'll still be recovering and it's a heavy toll on your body, so take advantage of any help you can to get some sleep. It really gave me the few extra hours I needed to make the best recovery so I could go home and function on my own.

That's all that I can remember right now.

Thanks so much @more14!! I will definitely call my insurance and make it a point to see the doctor doing the c-section since I haven’t even seen her my whole pregnancy. And I got a night gown but will get another. I also got some maternity fold over yoga pants and loose nursing tops and some underwear I saw recommended (https://www.kindredbravely.com/products/postpartum-c-section-recovery-comfort-panty?variant=2511938191384) to bring in case I prefer them.
