*Lurking from March* @dogmom1118 We delivered a 29 weeker on Friday the 7th. My post is over in March. We are here with you in spirit. My little guy and your DD are stronger than we could have ever known. She looks great by the way! Breathing okay on her own? Hopefully the weeks go by uneventfully, even if impatiently on our parts, with just a lot of growing going on for our little ones!
Thoughts are with you new moms and your precious, perfect babies. I’m sure this must be so hard but the time will pass. Wishing you strength and patience!!!
@Lbloom I’m amazed everyday how strong they are! She needs some assistance breathing (I took that photo while they were switching tubes out). It’s scary, emotional, and just sucks at time. I keep telling myself that now I just get to watch her grow on the outside rather than in my belly. Thinking of you and all the other extremely kind mama’s out there- thank you again to all of you for such kind words and thoughts
@Lbloom - I just went over to March to read about your saga and your little boy. You and @dogmom1118 are such troopers and so are your wonderful, strong kiddos who will be out of there and home with you before you know it. Rooting for you all SO HARD.
I’ve been enjoying all my snuggle time with her! This is a picture of her wearing a hat Grandpa made for her for St Patrick’s Day (she still has to grow in to it lol). Luckily we live 10 minutes from the hospital so I spend a lot of time there with her. The doctors keep telling us she is right on track and doing what she should be for her size and age. Still needs some assistance breathing until her lungs get bigger, but she’s been gaining weight and is currently up to 2lbs 12oz. It’s scary day to day knowing things can change in an instant, but we are just thinking and staying positive knowing she will be home soon. Having Christmas approaching is very bittersweet this year, but she has a stocking hanging on her isolate and we will still be with her Christmas Day. The doctors and nurses are truly fabulous and she is in such great hands. So, overall we are are all just taking it day by day and keep thinking each day that passes is one day closer to when she can come home
@dogmom1118 She is beautiful. It's nice that you are so close to the hospital and can see her often. You are doing amazing and so is she. Thank you for the update.
@dogmom1118 I’m so happy you are both doing well! It’s great that you get see her so much and that you get that precious time holding her! Congratulations!
@dogmom1118 so glad to hear that she’s progressing along well! We spent DD’s first Christmas in the hospital too (she wasn’t early, but has a host of medical issues), and while I remember it being so hard, it helps to look back at the pictures and see how happy we all looked still. We had fun little hats for DD to wear (much like the St. Patrick’s one you have pictured), and we sang a lot of Christmas carols and tried to make the best of it. Hoping that you all are able to enjoy your little one this holiday season, despite the circumstances, and welcome her home soon!
So since the docs are saying things like preemie and NICU, I have been scouring the internet for reassurance. I found the following site and it has lots of non terrifying info. Posting link to one article, but there are loads.
@episcowitch thanks for sharing! One of the first things the doctors and nurses told me was to not google anything and stay off the internet and I’ve done very that since day one, but this was a very accurate article. If you do find yourself having a preterm labor and your little one is in the NICU, honestly your absolute best source of information is the nurses and doctors taking care of your baby (they are wonderful) because EVERY baby is so different and you will get the answers that pertain to your baby and his/her needs. Hoping your little one stays in as long as possible!
@dogmom1118 I am currently keeping myself busy crocheting preemie hats. I checked with the NICU here and they do take donations. I hoping I do t need them, but someone else will find comfort in knowing someone thought of them .

After a rough few days, and an ambulance transport to a bigger Boston hospital, I am happy to report that both baby and I are okay. It started with a scheduled NST Friday that turned into an overnight stay in Boston. Baby boy’s heart rate was all over the place- from 150s to 50s with a possible fetal block and bi and trirethmia (sp?). After a fetal echo today at Children’s, we were told by the cardiologist that everything is working as it should and the arrhythmia (described as a “regular irregular heartbeat”- premature arrival contractions) usually clears up before or right after birth. No need for a follow up at CHB, just weekly heart rate checks. I am so grateful to live so close to the best hospitals in the world and can’t wait to meet this little nugget in six weeks!!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!!!
@episcowitch@sjnsjnsjn Today is day 37 of NICU life, gestational she is 34 weeks. Emma is progressing pretty much on track. She’s gaining weight and now weighs 4.3 pounds. Just yesterday she started breathing on her own, so we are seeing how she does with it. If she does ok, next step is to work on feeding via bottle/breast (she still has her feeding tube in the meantime). We are still hopeful she will be home the end of January. I’m just taking things day by day- I spend a lot of my time at the hospital and while I’m not there, I’m home finishing up her nursery. It has not been easy at all, but I just keep reminding myself this is all temporary and she will be home soon. Thank you so much for asking and thinking of us, that was so sweet. Wishing you all positive thoughts for your pregnancies and little ones to be! Below are some pictures of her “1st” 💗
@dogmom1118 Yay! Breathing on her own is a huge milestone!! That’s wonderful. I cannot imagine how these 37 days have been for you. I hope go-home-day is here before you know it. And Emma looks great- thx for sharing pics!
@dogmom1118 You are a strong mom and you're going to raise a strong kid! We are keeping you in our thoughts. Breathing on her own is so amazing! Grow Emma grow!
