I have a question: when did your midwifes/OBs say to take the glucose test? Mine just said to do it when I come for my 28w appointment, but I scheduled it for the 26th when I'll be 28w4d. Meanwhile, some of the ladies in my Fit4Baby class were discussing the test and said it has to be taken before 28 weeks to be accurate. So now I'm wondering if I should rather go take it tomorrow instead of waiting until next week. What were your instructions?
@mihaelams1 - My doctor said it should be taken at 28 weeks. I’m scheduled for 28+5 (3 weeks instead of 4) to accommodate the test. My DH (also an md) said during the 28th week is fine as well.
@mihaelams1 my midwife gives the lab work with dates between weeks 24-28 and you have any time to take it during those weeks. I have heard that has the placenta grows you can be more likely to develop it so later can be more accurate. I’m sure whatever your doctor recommended is ok.
@mihaelams1 Mine can be done anytime between 25-28 weeks. I’m trying to wait until closer to 28 weeks. I also do the 2 hour test, not the 1 hour. Every practice seems different!
My practice schedules it for 27wks, presumably so you can retest and discuss results at the 28 week appt. I think the test itself is valid at any point because I've heard of some people at high risk of GD taking it much earlier in their pregnancy. As I said previously my midwife said some women don't develop GD until 30 weeks but perhaps the numbers reflect whether you are at risk of developing it.
ETA: 3hr is scheduled for tomorrow morning. Blech...

@mihaelams1 I don’t think your results are going to be any less accurate. If anything, I think waiting is better since GD can be developed at any time.
Thanks ladies! I decided not to go today (plus I woke up late), but I might go tomorrow just to have the results ready for the appointment and even get a chance at the 3h one if I don't pass.
My midwives said it's done around the 28-week mark. Mine was a little early, though, at 27 weeks because I had another issue with my blood count that they wanted to see how it was doing earlier. I don't think it hurts to do it "late."
@lelkcot So sorry girl! FX the 3 hours pans out well!!

Well I called to schedule my 3-hour test hoping I could do it Saturday and they couldn’t get me in until the 28! Sooo I’ll be 30 weeks 1 day when I finally take the 3 hour ... wondering if that’s too long to wait (I took the 1 hour on the 8) but I honestly can’t take off work to go take it especially when I have the following week off for holidays anyways.
@ashley14598 I wish my office had Saturday appointments. I know the 3 hour test is important but all I can think is, well there’s 4 hours of paid maternity leave I won’t be getting... Luckily all my other appts have been after work. I doubt they’d let you schedule for 30 weeks if it was too late for some reason.

One draw down for the 3hr. Literally as I take a drink of water to wash the taste out of my mouth she says “nothing by mouth, no food or drink”. What?! 3 hrs with no water? Wtf? Luckily she didn’t see me take a drink.

@lelkcot me either. I mean, I get not wanting me to drink a gallon of water in 3 hrs, but a normal amount of water seems safe. As it is it took her like a minute and a half to get enough blood from my finger prick for my fasting level. I also forgot and took a couple Tylenol at 2am this morning but the intake nurse didn’t seem bothered when I told her.

@lelkcot well, they did both. A finger prick I guess to check my fasting level was in range and then the draw, glucola... I assume so that if the test is invalid by my fasting level I don’t waste 3 hrs doing it. I wish it were just a finger prick.

I did my 3 hour yesterday, and weirdly it made me less sick than the 1 hour... I can't figure that one out, haha. The results got posted on my online portal and from what I can tell, they were good, so I'm crossing my fingers for a good news phone call later today.
@lelkcot My lab has a couple chairs away from the main waiting area where it’s warmer and quieter, but as lunch rolls around it’s getting busier. Less than a half hour to go!

A special chair would also keep the staff from bugging me about whether or not the plebetologist knows I’m waiting for bloodwork. Trust me, she knows. She’s stuck me 3 times already. I wouldn’t be sitting here for almost 3 hrs waiting for someone to call me back.

@meggyme i'm sure people thought i was weird. I was in there with a full suitcase almost, of things to do LOL. i had so many books and magazines. and THEN the nurses warmed up bacon in the back so that was great while i was sitting there starving. Good luck to you and @lelkcot, its almost over!
@lelkcot I decided to go in today for my 1h test and that's the first thing that came to my mind when I was planning for spending my time there. Last time around I went on a Saturday (for the 3h, as I was not even offered the 1h) and I was there alone the whole time. Now going on a Saturday feels like taking time away from DS...
Does anyone know the effects of taking Vitamin C supplement on the glucose test? I've been taking extra Vit C due to a slight cold. Now I'm wondering if need to stop soon.

I (think) I passed the 1h test! No message from the midwifes yet, but the results are ready online and my value is 125 mg/dL, while the normal range they compare against is 70-134. Party time!
