@SpaceBurger thank you for that. That really does help. I have been so uneasy about it. I hope this is the same.

Edited because my fat finger hit save too soon.

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds Glad YH is okay and that despite no experience outside of schooling that you at least could understand what was happening! Hope the mass turns out to be NBD.

  • We don't really do a Ten Things Tuesday post, but I've got a laundry list of how my day is going so here's my own Ten Things, in chronological order.

    1. DD2 continued her PTSD nightmares last night.
    2. DD2s bandage fell off twice in the MOTN.
    3. I threw up this morning for the first time this whole pregnancy (shouldn't nausea be going away??)
    4. DD2s bandage fell off again right before we left the house.
    5. My breakfast made me gag, spit in the trash, and throw it away (bagel with cream cheese, a craving I've had all pregnancy, wth baby?)
    6. DD2s bandage fell off *again* so I had to go home and get her plastic surgery care kit to redo it.
    7. Once she was fixed up and sent on the playground, DD2 was brought in to me not 10 minutes later because she smacked into a pole and a huge purple goose egg popped up on her forehead.
    8. I ate a delicious refried bean and cheese quesadilla for lunch.
    9. Came back in to work to discover happily that DD1 was napping.
    10. A kid two cots away from DD1 in the nap room nonchalantly pooped in his pants during nap, and pull it out of his pants with his hands...and it was on purpose.

...this is the Monday-est Tuesday ever. Thank goodness tomorrow is a half day and then we have four days off 🤷

  • My last dog (and pet) is dying :( she has a malignant tumor on her paw. We thought it was just an abscess that needed antibiotics but it started bleeding and hasn't stopped. It's my MIL's dog and she wanted to put her to sleep but my BIL and FIL came and dognapped her because they think they can "keep her comfortable" until she passes but the poor thing is just miserable. She can't walk, and the bleeding won't heal according to the vet. We think they'll give her back to us in a week because it's very difficult to care for a dying animal (we know this through experience).
I want to run out and get a beagle puppy and 2 kittens like, RIGHT NOW. It hurts coming home and not having pets to greet me or talk to. And it hurts explaining to my son that our pets just aren't coming back :( he thinks the cat is on a helicopter and the dogs are in the hospital. He loved them.
But I just can't do it, not with twins on the way. I'll have to be pet-less for at least a year. Maybe I'll look into finding a pet that's low-maintenance but interactive. Or get an aquarium.
I just can't believe all three of our pets died within 3 months of each other! It's crazy.
  • @wishiwaspreggo
aww. poor pup. I also had an urge to adopt an animal recently. But DH and I have a rule about how many 4-legged things we're allowed to have in the house at once. (And babies count as 4-leggeds until they get to walking age). So maybe when second DD is walking we can surprise them both with another kitty.

  • @lovelybabybumpz - That's what I'm thinking, as soon as the twins are up and walking I will get new pets. By then my son will be old enough to actually be helpful with them and it'll help teach the toddlers how to appropriately handle animals. I'm really leaning towards a beagle because they're so patient with kids. Kittens can be a little rough if you let them but if you teach both the kids and the kittens what their boundaries are they're generally compliant, I've learned :)
  • @wishiwaspreggo Aw, I’m so sorry. That sucks so so bad, and I hate to see that you're going through this again. ❤️
  • @wishiwaspreggo sorry for your losses. I can’t imagine losing all your pets at once.
  • @wishiwaspreggo I am so sorry!  I can't imagine how tough that is on you guys, and trying to explain it to a 3yo is so hard!

  • Y'all, my 5yo hopped on her friend's bus instead of her own after school today because apparently she and her BFF decided they needed a playdate.  Truthfully, if they had checked both the other mom and I would have been totally fine with it but it really bugs me that they were even allowed to do this at school without at least consent from one of the parents.  It's a small town and they are super relaxed about some things, which I appreciate.  So they would take my word if I said BFF's mom and I made plans or vice versa.  But that didn't happen.  They have tags on their backpacks showing which bus they belong to, and there are supervisors out there to ensure they get where they need to go.  Am I overreacting or should I make a stink about this?

  • @mcewen3 MAKE A STINK! I cannot believe they let that happen! We have 39 different buses that all load, unload, and transfer at my school building, and that would not fly! We are also a small town (about 5,000 people). That is completely. It okay!

  • @mcewen3 I would be upset about that. Even being laid back, I would think the supervisors would confirm with you that it was ok for your child to get on a different bus. I assume there is probably a bus tracking app or something, but how did you even find out she was on her friend’s bus? I would panic if my child was suppose to be on a certain bus and then wasn’t.
  • @mcewen3 I would make a stink. What if she wasn't going on the bus to see her friend and she just got on a bus that wasn't hers and got off at a stop she didn't know? I just think that's incredibly dangerous and they need to be keeping an eye on those things more closely. My friend's daughter got onto a bus when she's never taken the bus. She and her friend told the sub she took the bus and she just got on it. It is so scary.
  • What @eatinwatermelonseeds said x1000. School districts need to be held accountable for kids until they are home.
  • @megsb615 the friend's bus dropped off a few minutes before I was expecting DD to get off of her bus.  Her mom called me right away to let me know.  So luckily there wasn't any kind of a panic.

Thank you guys!  MIL was all like, “yeah.  And...?”  Like I was really wrong to be shocked.  The other mom and I discussed it and she was a little upset too, I’m going to go in and speak with the assistant principal tomorrow.  I know that everything hasn’t been running as smoothly the last two days, but they need to keep their ish in order.  The principal is gone (his sister passed away unexpectedly on Monday) and he is someone who doesn’t delegate.  He wears a lot of hats and I know that he’s a big presence with the bus situation after school.  But he cannot be the only one.

Out of curiosity, @mrskoz428, how many teachers do bus supervision at your school? I’m planning to talk to my mom about it tonight as well before I go in.  She taught for years and then was principal of her elementary school for 8 years.  A slightly bigger town than we are currently in, but the school was about the same size.  I want to pick her brain about how best to approach this because I don’t think my grievance will be well-received.

  • @mcewen3 I’m not entirely sure. I know the four admins are out there for sure plus a few middle school teachers and aids from the intermediate school (intermediate and middle share a building). During the first week of school, all the elementary principals and many of the elementary teacher students come to my school to assist with that first week of getting kids transferred to the proper bus and to ensure that everyone is in the place that they should be. Plus, our bus drivers know the kids on their bus and usually expect a note from any child that doesn’t belong on their bus. There is probably 8 people supervising bus duty at the end of the day, and it’s hectic with 39 buses loading and unloading kids at the same time.

  • @mcewen3 100% make a stink, I'd be pissed. We used to need notes for that kind of thing.

Just popping in and trying to catch up on the most recent goings on. We're having a great time. I'm feeling kind of sad because the anticipation of Thanksgiving makes me so excited that when the day is finally here I'm like oh, in x amount of hours it'll be done and that is really sad 😔 I'm trying not to think of it that way but I always get like this before things I'm really looking forward to. In the meantime, just enjoying all the family time!

  • @mcewen3 definitely unacceptable. No note or phone call my students go on their regular bus home no matter how persuasive they are. Imagine if you hadn’t got the call before the bus got there. I’d be upset. One of my students was insisting they were being picked up the other day and I made them hold the bus until I could check, turns out she just didn’t want to take the bus and was hoping if she didn’t get in someone would have to pick her up.
  • It is -25 degrees with the windchill today. (That's -13 for those of you south of the border.) It is way too early for this.

  • My brother in law is talking about how there's a UFO that parks over by where he's living and he's certain there are aliens. He seemed like he was doing better for a second until he started talking 😂 he hasn't said what drugs he was doing when he's seen it.
  • I'm here.  Sometimes I just don't feel I have a lot to add to a conversation.  I went Black Friday shopping with my mom this morning and waited in line to check out at Kohls for almost an hour and a half.  We finally got to the front and there were only 2 registers open.  TWO!
  • @fatmonica WHAT!?!?!? I thought I waited long at Victoria Secret (30 minutes) and they had 7 registers open! I got some really good deals, though! I got Echo Dots for $20 a piece at Target which I’m super pumped about! Otherwise, I just got a few things here and there and finished up the last few people on my list (minus my sisters; they are IMPOSSIBLE to shop for!)

We are on our way for second thanksgiving. I am so looking forward to the food, but we are heading to a 1 bedroom apartment in Manhattan where there will be 4 kids 6 and under who aren’t alowed to make noise or touch any breakables. It is such a challenge for my boys since we live in a rural area and they aren’t used to apartments. We took them swimming this afternoon to let them blow off a little steam. Fingers crossed people!
  • Just an average day over here, but busy as always.  Got DD1 on the bus and then dropped DD2 off at preschool.  I had preschool time free for the first time in a while so I grabbed my runners and walked the track at the rink for an hour.  I really needed that time today.  Finished in plenty of time to run a few errands before picking DD2 up.  We've been working on housework most of the afternoon so that we can relax and take part in some Christmas events happening over the weekend.

  • We had a nice relaxing Thanksgiving yesterday. We went to Cracker Barrel to eat. We timed it just right. We called around 11 and the wait was an hour and twenty min. We put our name in, finished up getting ready, drove there and because of traffic we got there five min before they called our name. Food and service were good and we didn’t have to cook. Today I have been cooking and making food. No rush because it’s just us, so it’s been nice. I have made too much!

We have done quite a bit of shopping online. Found new bikes for the girls for an awesome price. They are going to freak out. Still need to look for some birthday presents for DD2 though.

  • DD ended up with pneumonia, so we just stayed home alone and made a dinner of just sides. It was actually really wonderful and relaxing (only because DD was on the upswing)
  • @Stormiewinter how did it go? I hope no things were broken and no neighbors knocking on the ceiling!
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds exactly - I never knew I had a preference! I think it was only a slight preference, and I'm really only lamenting not getting a mother-son dance at a wedding or getting to pretend I'm a scary dragon-lady mother-in-law  :D. I'm relieved to not have to build a new wardrobe for baby sis and not starting from scratch in the short term, but I'm truly terrified of having two teen girls in our house. And I'm already telling DH "girls go to college these days, paying for that is enough. We don't need to pay for two weddings just because we're girl parents!" I think raising two girls is super intimidating emotionally and financially. We're hoping 2.5 years is enough of an age gap to cut down on the fighting and competition, but I honestly have no idea if that will make it any better. I'm an only child and don't really understand sibling dynamics at all.

  • @poshspice So I already have the two girls, with a 2 year 4 month age gap. It has SO many pluses but negatives as well. They are best friends and worst enemies. I know that as they grow they're going to be so close and I actually didn't care *at all* at my anatomy scan which we had because I knew we weren't done and I cried tears of joy that DD1 would get the sister I never had. But we had similar concerns for overload of female hormones, responsibility for two weddings, etc. But two girls really is amazing.

That being said, I know I have a preference for a boy this time around. Like, a lot. Which concerns me because I don't want to be any less excited or happy about this baby whoever they end up being. I keep thinking it's a boy but then I inwardly chastise myself so when the time comes to find out I don't feel any less excited about it either way. Easier said than done I'm sure.........

  • @imrachellea DH and I both kind of thought this LO would be another girl, but I didn’t realize I would actually be disappointed. Definitely the fact that it’s our last kid makes it harder. I know I’ll get over it quickly and get with the program, an of course we’ll love our new little lady to pieces, but today I’m kind of mourning a family we’ll never have. I’m  really hoping DD and her little sister can be best friends, but really dreading explosive teen girl fights. 🙈 I was such a moody teenager.  :#
