I live in a warm climate and work from home, so I kind of forgot that flu season is already here and that people are already getting sick from it. Now that I've remembered, I plan to get one tomorrow at a pharmacy, but wondering if anyone else has put theirs off and is planning to get vaccinated in the first trimester. I'm only 5 weeks along, but my OB's office recommends it, and I plan to get the preservative-free one. Still kicking myself a little for not getting it sooner / before I conceived, though.
I always feel like I get sick after the shot, but only after the shot. The years I didn’t get it, I didn’t get sick. I’m a little weary when it’s the only free shot offered.
@gphidani I always felt that way too, until I actually got influenza last year and was almost hospitalized. I'll never skip it again. Even if I get a milder form, that's better than experiencing the flu again (and thank God for Tamiflu). I didn't realize the difference between a virus and actual influenza - I definitely do now.

I don't even understand what you're trying to say? You'd be more convinced it was effective if they charged you for it? It's free because it's effective and there are people who have died from it so they want as many people to have some sort protection.
I don't see any downsides of having the shot. Like at the very least you have a bit of protection and a chance to avoid getting the flu (not a stomach virus or a cold but full on real influenza which is a nightmare).

Your statement is so true. People say they get the flu and in most cases it's just a respiratory viral thing going on or just a bad cold; OR they think that gastroenteritis is the flu.
I had the truth flu one time ever and it was horrific! You are flat on your back 103 temp, breathing is terrible you dont move. That's the true flu. I love it hen people say "I had the flu three times last year, it only lasted a day or two" sorry, but that's not the flu.
My regular dr was pressuring me about it but I've never gotten the flu or the flu shot. I've always kinda been anti flu shots for myself... only because it seemed like the vaccine each year didn't protect against that year's flu strain... But idk, maybe I should get it anyways? Idk
@rdixon571 even if you still catch the flu from a different strain (and who's to say which strain you end up with) the symptoms tend to be reduced because you at least have a limited immunity to it and can recover faster. And even if a flu shot is, for example, only 10% effective, that's 10% less likely I am to get the flu. For a free poke in the arm, I'll take that!
ETA: and even if you never get the flu, herd immunity is increased by more people getting the flu shot, therefore increasing the odds of it being more effective. The fewer people that catch the flu, the fewer opportunities for the virus to mutate into something not covered by the shot.

Exactly where I’m at. Was going to get one in October... then when I went to pharmacy for one they told me my insurance required I get it at Dr office. When I called my Dr I said “I’m pregnant & wanting a flu shot.” 😁 going in Tuesday morning.
I'm allergic to the flu shot and currently have the flu thanks to anti vaxxers so... everyone who is able to get the shot PLEASE GET THE SHOT TO SPARE OTHERS LIKE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
