I think big push presents are dumb. Bring me a mocha or my favorite food. I don't need something special simply because I had a baby. I will clarify, though, that a push present is separate from getting something for someone for becoming a mother. I got my cousin a necklace for becoming a mom, but it wasn't a "shortly after birth" push present
@mrstmoose Same here. I don't necessarily dislike Halloween, but I could take it or leave it. Mostly I just like how excited DD gets to dress up. But I always love the holiday season -- I'm itching to put my Christmas tree up already.
Oh man, I fucking love Halloween. And Christmas. I don't really celebrate Thanksgiving, but October--December I am a celebrating machine for those two. We don't even do an uber commercialized version of the holidays. It's just a fun, magical time of year for me, haha.
Okay so first I have to say, my parents didn’t let me celebrate Halloween as a kid, so I love it now!
My UO created a Facebook controversy for me yesterday, so I’ll share it here. The only acceptable thing to eat with chili is a peanut butter sandwich! Grilled cheese is for tomato soup!

I don't eat grilled cheese with chili but I would CERTAINLY not eat a PB sandwich with it! Crackers! I eat crackers with chili!
@MRDCle We still put crackers and cheese in our chilli! Lol. So, all of our surrounding schools use to serve this and we always thought it was normal, but now we al must have peanut butter with chili! Everyone not from our area thinks it’s weird lol. I’ve also learned some areas eat cinnamon rolls with it. Hmm
@kosmo86 - MEEE TTOOOOO!!!! Its also nice to escape from my in laws house a little early on Thanksgiving.. I just like getting to spend time with my girlfriends or sister, whoever decides to go. We used to go to the bar first and get drunk before shopping, now we just go to Starbucks
Grilled cheese with tomato soup is a yes. WTF to peanut butter with chili anything.
Christmas season starts today. I wait for my tree, but I'm listening to the music. The season is short and it's magical so...I'm gonna start on November 1st
Add me to the list of those who always forgets my UOs. I'll come back if inspiration strikes.
A peanut butter sandwich with chili would probably make me barf into the bowl. Cinnamon rolls would make an equally disgusting combination but I'm distracted by how much I love cinnamon rolls on their own. Crackers are good, but my favorite is actually to eat it with tortilla chips! Now I want chili and chips (and heaps of sour cream), and then to wait an acceptable amount of time and eat a cinnamon roll.
Adding that chili is delicious on top of some french fries and now I'm totally craving it. Not a UO (I don't think), but delicious...and it's cold af here today...which is great for chili. I'm loving where this is headed
UO: Christmas is the worst holiday. Ugh, I am over it and it hasn't even begun yet. It's all fake cheerfulness, off the charts rudeness and run away consumerism. Also there are only a handful of Christmas songs just done again and again. No one wants to hear that much Mariah Carey over and over at every place.
Also Black Friday starting Thursday night is evil. There is NO need. Let people have family time. <from someone who had several Thanksgivings ruined because of having to work at 10pm.
Love, the resident Grinch. Bah humbug. Somebody get me a cane and some happy carolers to yell at.
lol. I'm eternally grateful i got out of retail.

@thatbaintforbetty my mom agrees with you in full. I only agree with the part about Black Friday not needing to start Thursday night. I’m pretty sure it shouldn’t even start on Friday or be a thing at all.
I’m also back to the cinnamon roll thing...isn’t there a city that does cinnamon-dominant chili? MAYBE there.

eta: it’s Cincinnati
Cincinnati chili isn't like REAAAAAAAAAAL chili though (is that an UO? IDGAF. It's not the same).
I can’t stand places that are open Thanksgiving, but at last my job, people worked on a volunteer basis. A lot of people don’t care to spend time with family, or their families live far away. I know a lot of my coworkers were so grateful for the chance to make holiday money! So I think it’s a blessing/curse, depending on how businesses schedule their employees.
I love Christmas, and I always feel like my head is very much in the right place with the holiday. I could not care less about presents. I like the hot chocolate, wearing my warm and cute clothes, the music, the movies, the traditional foods like tamales 😍 and making DH his stocking. Spending time with family is always more fun during this time, too. I don’t know... it’s just fun and special, and I always feel a bit more cheerful. But I’m also such a kid at heart.
ETA My UO: I hate thanksgiving. Absolutely hate it. Not even getting into the historical/moral issues of the day, I really don’t like turkey, or cranberries, or stuffing. So I don’t even have the food to look forward to! I also don’t have any interest in football. So thanksgiving for me = eating food I don’t like while DH watches football. At least he enjoys it 🤷🏻♀️
@midwestmommy90 My mom, a solid midwestern lady through and through, would ALWAYS have peanut butter sandwiches for our chili dinners. No jelly, no honey, just peanut butter. And, she would dunk the sandwiches IN the chili. Something about the smooth and creamy, sweet PB plus spicy chili was just right. And now, thanks to finally getting my appetite back, I think I know what I'll make this weekend.
weirdos, all of you! FRITOS w/ chili! frito chili piiieee!! (but a grilled cheese sounds pretty good... we have chili on the menu next week- I might try that combo!)
my UO: I hate college football. correction- I hate all football. my husband swears that I told him I wanted to go to a local college game here, so he said he got us tickets to bedlam in 2 weeks. I'm super SUPER not looking forward to it also- as much as I hate football, and as little as I know about it, I am SLAYING in my fantasy league! I'm 7-1! :P
@Piccola1988- Yes to tortillas and sour cream with chili! my favorite way to eat it! If I have no chips, I will commit to saltine crackers as a second choice... @thatbaintforbetty- completely agree with you about black friday...it makes me sick.
my uo: I hate halloween more and more every year, the majority of children who came to my door (we get about 100+), are a**holes, cant even say thank you and just hold out their fat bags demanding candy.
I don't care to go out shopping on Black Friday but I don't mind browsing the deals online and shopping at home in my pjs with a cup of coffee. What drives me insane is that Nov 1 and my email is FULL of "Black Friday starts NOW!!" ads. HOLY CRAP give it a rest. I feel like Black Friday doesn't actually mean anything anymore. It is just the catchall advertising language for any sort of sale in November. Bleh. BUY!! BUY!! BUY!! NOW!!! NOW!! NOW!! Makes me not even want to check my email until Dec 26th.
This may not be an UO, but I am fully calling my son a little a**hole (in my head...) right now... maybe that's more of a FFFC.
Anyone else in need of a strong drink from dealing with their toddlers? This is doubly funny for me because I don't drink normally, but I swear this child is gonna drive me to alcoholism....
@eli_belle I thought the same thing this morning when i hit the Amazon homepage and they are advertising "Early Black Friday Deals!"
@kangstadt Some days i am right there with you. DD walked up and hit DH in the head last night. It was after ToTing and a little sugar which might have something to do with it but still some nights are ROUGH. We are working on the no hitting, and distinguishing play fighting from the real thing. But you know, work in progress.

I literally just raged when I saw Target release their ads for Black Friday, for Thursday at 5pm. That’s when we eat dinner...
also @kangstadt I think we’ve all been there. Currently my toddler is tantruming because I won’t read the same book for the 20th time today... slowly losing my mind here. Lol
@lyse01 Thanksgiving is long gone here, but I try to wait for anything Hanukkah or Xmas until after November 11 for Remembrance Day so it can be properly observed.

@thatbaintforbetty, we still struggle with the no hitting when he gets mad. And being gentle with the dog/his cousin. His behavior lately has just been so awful! I'm at the end of my rope.
@midwestmommy90, I feel you. DS has been having late bedtimes lately because of our hectic schedules, and even when we try to tell him it's too late to read a book, he cries and stalls until we read something for him anyway. Ugh.
@batmama31 yes to the fritos and chili! My husband does cornbread and chili, so we do our own things on chili night. Will be interesting to see which way DD eats it when she's older.
Love Thanksgiving and Christmas, but already dreading the inlaws visit that comes with the holidays
Lots of things go with chili: cornbread, crackers, Fritos, tortilla chips are all acceptable options. Peanutbutter sandwiches and cinnamon rolls? Hell no. That’s gross.
I also am not a Halloween person, never have been. Dressing up is a hassle, trick or treating just means a bunch of gross candy in my house. And now that I have a kid it means having to listen to him beg for candy for “dessert” like 3-5x a day.
I feel very ambivilent about thanksgiving. The food is usually only okay. And it’s a lot of juggling between families for us. Plus my mom always insists on inviting random people or extended family we don’t know well, which makes it awkward.
Black Friday is the WORST. My husband used to have to work at like 3am thanksgiving night and it always sucked. I hate that it’s starting earlier and earlier and that people are missing out on family time. I don’t mind the online stuff as much, but I feel like it’s still just an example of gross consumerism.
I LOOOOOVE Christmas!!!! It’s my favorite holiday of the year. I love decorating and making chex mix and cookies and hot apple cider and staying up late to fill my son’s stocking. I love nativity scenes. I just love the whole dang holiday. I’m ready to start decorating and listening to the music now! But I know that would drive my husband batty.
I LOVE black Friday and I actually PREFER that it starts on Thanksgiving because I would rather go at night then early in the morning.
There I said it.
We have started a tradition of walking around the local Walmart after dinner on thanksgiving just for fun and to get out of the house. We’re not the crazies who go wait in line. And then on actual Black Friday we head out shopping around noon. If we find deals great, if not no big deal. Also I know so many people love the holiday pay for working and we often forget the professions like medical, police, firefighters etc that always work holidays. No one is forcing you to work or go shopping so I don’t get why people get so cranky about Black Friday. I do agree that Black Friday sales are overrated and the deals aren’t as great as they were in the past. Retailers use the slogan “Black Friday prices” all year round nowadays
Also I love thanksgiving and Christmas time. Thanksgiving because you get to enjoy family without it being about gifts and Christmas because I love watching the joy in my children’s eyes
Chili: I personally don’t like chili because I’m very sensitive to spices (but I do love the smell!). I’ve heard of the peanut butter thing but never cinnamon rolls....so weird!
Also add me to the never remembering my own UO or FFFC lol

@thatbaintforbetty YES. After years of working retail, hearing "All I Want for Christmas Is You" makes me want to violently rip my ears off.
I put up my tree in December, and basically shun anything xmas until December. Wait. Your. Turn.
