My goal today is to keep myself distracted by meetings and work until my early AS this afternoon. Trying not to freak myself out. Just fx for two awesome looking babes today!
I am having a hard time at work lately and I am starting to hate it a little. I keep coming in angry and ready to start an argument! I keep telling myself its just hormones and I love my job.

Good luck, @MRDCle! I have to call today cause they didn't mention having to schedule an anatomy scan at my last appointment. Wondering if I have to call in. Everything so far has been pretty automatic.
My random for this morning is that our roof contractor is finally here and working on our roof - two months after they said they'd start. So now my dog is freaking out and it sounds like my house is falling down around me. Yay!
@kangstadt when is your next appointment? If it's before 18 weeks they might just set it up then. I set this up at our last MFM appointment.
I feel like roof contractors are notorious for being off-schedule. At least in my area with the weather being SO unpredictable, it's hard to stick to schedule! Hope they move fast for you.
@MRDCle, I think my next checkup is around week 20 for me. If I've had the NIPT done do they skip the anatomy scan? (Although I'm assuming they do more than just check sex, like make sure I'm not growing an octopus or something ).
The weather definitely had something to do with it, but my biggest complaint was that they never returned voicemails when DH and I tried calling to ask when it would be! That's just bad business practice in my mind.
@kosmo86 I'm also hating my job right now. But the negative feelings started months before becoming pregnant so I can't even blame the hormones. It's just a toxic environment and I'm constantly stressed out.
I haven't been around for the past week because I was on a work trip and it's been hard to keep up with everything. I've tried to at least catch up in reading the randoms thread (I made it most of the way through them).
We found out on Friday that we're having a boy! It's the first boy in my family; I'm one of 4 girls, my sister has 4 girls, and I have my daughter Eloise. My dad adores all of his girls of course and would have been just as happy with another granddaughter, but he is so excited to have a grandson. He's also pretty excited that we're naming the baby after him.
@kangstadt I think the AS is protocol for all pregnancies regardless of NIPT testing unless you opt out of it for some reason- they check way more than just sex I'd call/email my doc again and ask if they had it scheduled for your next checkup at 20 weeks because that's basically perfect timing! And definitely agree, it makes me rage when they don't call you back. Everything is so urgent on their end but when you need something it's like you're lost on an island.
@kangstadt yes, I agree with @sheknows6. Definitely call and check! My AS is the same day as my 20 week checkup; they’re actually back to back appointments on 11/21.
I have absolutely no desire to go to work today but I also have no reason NOT to. So I’m staying in bed until the last possible second. On that note, I need to find outfits that work with compression socks. I usually wear shorts, leggings or jeans and my favorite shoes to wear to work are toms. I think the toms are out and so are the shorts!
@lilpotatomama I just saw your other posts from last week's randoms- holy crap! I'm glad it was just your blood pressure and not anything wrong!
Did they give you any tips besides the compression socks to help with your BP? Mine is normally low and I've been scared to death of fainting or having issues now that I'm in second tri.
I was not ready for Monday and then DD woke me up at 3:15. Now I’m really super not ready for Monday.
Also on the job train. I’m a temp, when I got hired there were several other temps and it was pretty clear that that was how they did a lot of their staffing. My boss has been adamant that she is going to hire me on permanently. Well they basically stopped using temps this month and started just hiring people on but I’m still a temp. I’m pretty sure I have a quota of hours I have to fulfill on my current contract before they can hire me on but it just feels so unfair. I have been there since way before but I don’t get health benefits or paid holidays or vacation time but they do.
And im frustrated at my doc office because they said it could take 5 to 7 days after my intake phone appointment to get a call back to schedule an appointment. And then I’ll have to wait who knows how long for that.
I am a super cranky mess today.

@sheknows6 they pretty much told me to just be mindful of my movements. To always remember that I can’t just be running back and forth, getting up quickly, etc. They also recommended I walk slowly and take breaks as often as possible. And they also told me no more lying on my back. Left side only!
Ok, found a deal at Target that will work on certain baby items. Currently this week target is doing 25% off a SINGLE toy purchase. Text TOY to 827438 to get the mobile coupon. I checked to see if it worked on baby toys, specifically, baby play mats and entertainers/walkers and it applied.
@professormama - its really no big deal when they have your phone number. I work in Marketing and there are strict guidelines of what you can and cannot send people over text and email. I did this target coupon last year and never received any marketing emails. Any marketing email requires a way to opt out of future communications.

@kosmo86 I'm getting really paranoid these days. The amount of "big data" that corporations can amass about individuals, and the level of specific information they know is super creepy. A lot of box-stores, for instance, have internet that you can automatically connect to. When your phone connects to the internet, they use your location services to know which isles you're spending the most time on, then to market to you accordingly (I know this because my dad does software for a company that is implementing this right now). I also know how this is used in micro-targeting for political campaigns. Political campaigns (as long as they have the $$) can find out everything from the kinds of stores you shop at, what magazines you subscribe to, if you have pets, children, etc. And then they can micro-target political messages to exactly what they know about you. For instance, they might send a mailer about education to someone who had kids, versus an animal rights mailer to someone with pets (rough example, but you get the idea). Honestly, I mean, it's not really malicious, but I find the whole thing to be INCREDIBLY big-brother. Like, when I use my credit card at a store, and seconds later I get ads for that store in my instagram feed - it's so freaking creepy. I know refusing to give a company my phone number probably doesn't make a hill of beans difference. But it's my small rebellion. Gotta fight against the machine!
@kosmo86@professormama With as often as companies are getting hacked sometimes it’s not what they do with it but what others can do with it given they can get it.
I actually have had free credit monitoring from several different (big, should be secure, name brand places) stores/companies because they got hacked. Or a company they use to do their marketing/promo/analytics got hacked.
When I get the time (ha) I’m going to pull DDs credit and get a freeze put on it so I know it can’t be stolen. And probably mine and DHs at some point, but I think we are still working on it so it’d be a pain right now.

@professormama I don't find it creepy because I work in the business but you are right and Its not just big stores or their internet. If you are logged into facebook or google both of them log your location and even small business use facebook and google advertising platforms. But its also your credit card. Visa and Mastercard also gives people your basic info if you use the card in a store/restaurant.
It is the way to world is moving and I am ok with it. DH and I both work in technology. To me I would rather them find good ways to market relevant things to me that I actually care about rather than stuff I don't.

@kosmo86 I have a small business and use FB to market. It will allow us to market to people with specific demographics/interests, but it doesn't tell us who those people are. That being said, when I am talking about something and they send me an ad for it, I get majorly creeped out. I don't let FB use my location, but I'm sure there's some clause in the TOS of the addons and apps I use that allow it. I've decided there is simply no security these days. But (foil hat is going on), I do Google myself regularly to ensure nothing pops up. (removing foil hat )
@kosmo86 I know it's the way the world is moving, but ewww. I hate it! And I'm totally with @thatbaintforbetty - the security threat is so huge. Most companies don't secure their data well, and it's so easy to get hacked these days. I should really put a freeze on my sons credit to help prevent identity theft. That is a good idea. Plus again, ugh, it's just so big-brother. Sometimes I feel like we live in a corporate version of Orwell's 1984.
@professormama you might like (or be super scared by) "Weapons of Math Destruction" by Cathy O'Neil. My Masters is in Social Policy and Data Analytics with a big emphasis on not just the technical end of data but understanding it from a critical/ethical lens and I am a massive data nerd.
I am not anti-big data but I am very wary of the private sector and government's ability to use it ethically and in a way that fully acknowledges the limitations and bias of data. It is not just the security threat, but the broader implications for reinforcing bias in our society under the guise of objectivity. For example, in most areas of the US (and Canada) because housing is so segregated zip code essential acts as a proxy measure for race, as do other bits of spatial and demographic data. And while many industries (e.g., credit) bar factoring race into decision making, you can easily use proxy measures and algorithms to create race based discrimination without actively relying on a race as a measure.
@sheknows6 and @lilpotatomama, I called and the nurse didn't even seem to know what I was asking about... but then they called back and said at my 20 week checkup, they'll schedule me for the AS ultrasound. Seems awfully late/poor timing, but okay?
I agree marketing targeting is creepy. When I am Googling some topic and then similar ads show up in my Facebook feed... blech.
@happymoni21 oh my goodness yes. Excellent point about the ethics. I was just reading an article the other day about how algorithms tend to reinforce existing biases and racial disparities. For instance, a black woman will be shown many fewer job ads for high-level and high-powered jobs, when searching, than a white man. It's not that the algorithms are racist, but that they reinforcing existing racial inequalities. There are HUGE ethical problems around big data, and I think you're completely right that neither the private nor public sector is well equipped to deal with those challenges (are any of us?)
@kangstadt that does seem like really poor timing.....if it were me, I would call back and ask to have it scheduled for your checkup instead of waiting to schedule after you're already there. There is a window for the AS, they should be done between 18 and 22 weeks.
That's kinda alarming the nurse didn't know what you meant!
I absolutely hate getting bills for things that should be covered by insurance. And then waiting on hold for 10 minutes to have a two minute conversation that covers everything I already put into the phone tree and one additional piece of info. it takes way too long to get through the stack of bills.
Ugh to all the marketing and location stuff. Android has recently started asking me "How was (X place)?" when I leave. Not like I don't think they track where I am, but it seems so rude to butt in...
I hate phones. But I also hate how much I'm on mine. I switched my phone to greyscale today because I heard it helps you be on it less, and, yup, it's surprisingly boring - especially social media.
Also, reading the posts above makes me want to forget my phone even more often than I do. If I turn off WiFi, will it prevent most of the location stuff, or would I need to go into airplane mode for that? Just feel like sticking it to the Man.
I'd get a dumb phone if it weren't for my addiction to GPS in this stupid huge city.
The power just went out in my office building. So we are all just hanging out for like 30 to see if it comes back on. And then they move on to plan stage 2 (whatever that is). Thankfully it’s not really a big deal to me since I have nothing due today.
Yay for being paid to sit around.

My migraines are getting worse which is terrifying. My grandpa died of a brain tumor so every time I get headaches that last for days I get a bit worried. I’m counting down the minutes until my drs appointment tomorrow to hopefully get some answers and better strategies on how to relieve them.
in other news on our 1st with a dog walker our dog ran away. I had to rush home from work and drive around for 2 hours and then after 3 hours missing she showed up at the door!!! No idea what we are going to do now. I I missed a half day of work and I have a headache now... le sigh

@kosmo86 um what? Was the walker playing with them at the park off leash? I’m just trying to imagine how the dog manages to run away from the person. I get so upset when stuff like that happens. My mom used to let my bunnies out of their hutch to roam around the yard so she could play with them. Then she would get lazy and not put them back assuming that the fence was enough to keep them in. Can’t tell you how many times we got into it because they would burrow a hole under the fence and run off.
Im exhausted today for no reason. I guess growing a human in my uterus is a reason. But still. Maybe it’s leftover from going out of town for the weekend, the coming home and having to start the week playing catch-up... I can’t wait until my kiddo falls asleep. Im getting straight in bed and watching Friends or something similarly mindless.
@lyse01, ugh, I hate automated phone calls! I got a bill in the mail for my copay that I'm assuming was due at my appointment, since they have signs that say you must pay the day of... but nobody asked me when I checked out. Annoying.
@harveyisaboysname , ick, I hope you get answers and that your migraine goes away soon! I'm on day two of one as well.
@MRDCle, haha, that's what I keep telling my BFF. I'm gonna be surrounded by penises. Congrats, btw! Little boys are so much fun .
@kosmo86 , yeah, seriously, how does the pup get away from them? Did she slip her collar or something?
@professormama , I'm right with ya on that. Totally skipped working out to just come home and eat food and watch the idiot box.
