But while reading through this thread i realized I should sign up for a breastfeeding class, which i just did, so i can check that off the list!
Im going to take an infant CPR class too, but thats it. Ive heard mixed reviews on L&D classes, have done research online about what to expect, and i just want to go in without any grand expectations because i know things can change in an instant.
Were getting our entire house painted the first week of November, so that will help me feel more ready, because its one less thing to do!
We have nursery furniture and some baby stuff, but still need a video monitor, diapers, wipes, car seat, umbrella stroller, rock n play, a second changing table... We are not having a baby shower so i need to make time to get all this stuff! Ive been trying to buy some stuff each week so it doesnt feel so overwhelming.
We are also really unprepared right now. The baby's room got painted and curtains are hung but other than that it's still filled with some of our junk. I mean, I haven't even switched my closet officially to maternity clothes yet. I just keep washing, putting away, losing, finding, and wearing the same few items I've bought while living amongst growing piles of things that don't fit me anymore. If there was a show called Pregnant Hoarders I might be a candidate.
Thankfully, we have all the shower stuff being sent to my in-laws house. Being jewish, we don't really bring too much baby stuff into the house before the baby is born. I am waivering on when to have the furniture delivered once it's ready. Part of me doesn't want strangers in my house when I'm rushing off to the hospital, and wants tobe there to tell them where it all goes. Part of me doesn't want to break superstitious rules and have it come in. As for the rest of our gifts, I kind of enjoy having the chaos of all that go to my in-laws house and then we can go "shop" over there for what we want and need. Not having much space, I don't want extra clutter.
@Augusta108 I hate when people don't think before they speak! We are in a 2nd floor apt and have a flight of stairs to walk up as well. People have lived on the non-ground floor before and successfully gotten kids up and down! SO annoying. We'll be leaving the body of our stroller (travel system) in the car and bring the car seat up and down as needed.
@KLS123 do it girl! I plan to get my car and wife's car super duper cleaned out soon and set up the car seats as soon as we get em from the shower. I want to be able to practice a million times putting it in and taking it out, and clipping it onto stroller as well. Who cares what neighbors think! Just get a sign like on drivers education cars that says "student parent" and wrap it around your neck
My wife and I have conceived a babe with my body and frozen donor sperm through IUI, with medication support (clomid, ovidrel, and injections of progesterone) IUI #1, #2, and #3: Dec 2017, Jan 2018, and Feb 2018 - all BFN HSG Test: April 2018 - all clear! IUI #4: April 15/16, 2018 - BFP!! EDD: Jan 7, 2019
@roonilwazlib-2 I've been thinking about installing our carseat too, just for practice! You'd think a couple of engineers could easily do this stuff, but judging by how much trouble we had with the stroller collapsing/unfolding...
STM chiming in...do it! Practice with carseat and don't forget to take it to a fire station or AAA location that has people trained on how to properly install carseats. Those things can be a bitch! You might feel silly but you won't regret it for one second. Don't forget to practice moving the straps around. You'll have to do it eventually and you'll want to be able to know what you are doing before hand. I think that part stressed me out the most in my first carseat.
Highway patrol does car seat checks too (that’s where I had mine done), and some police stations. Car Seats For The Littles can also set you up with independent, certified people to inspect, I believe!

Also not feeling ready at all. We've done a good bit of prep in her room and with getting items stocked but still have a ways to go. But yesterday it hit me and I started to feel really unready emotionally. I wasn't expecting it cause we were trying for so many years but I think it was seeing 12 weeks until due date on my app. It feels really close and now some things that aren't major issues are making me very anxious and nervous- like cats in the crib, starting on meal prep, and other random things.
My friend with 3 kids say its this omg my life is really going to change so much thing and for women it often happens before birth and for men after. Eeeeeek.
