How are your other kids doing this week? He is having a great week, our babysitter is off for a couple weeks, so he has his grandmas babysitting this week and next week.
Rants/Raves? Questions/Concerns? I have been so tired lately, it's hard to stay awake and play with DS once I get home from work. I feel like a terrible mom!
GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19) Ideally, I would love to have him potty trained and in a big bed by the time baby comes, but we'll see. He's been a little behind on some other big milestones, so he may not be ready yet.
@meatballs37 I stay home too. Toddler + newborn all day should be a ball 😂😬 Bring on the chaos! My mom will be moving in to help so that’s something... 🤞🏻
My mom currently babysits for us every day. So while she will still come over a couple times a week once baby is here the majority of the time it will be me, toddler, and baby. I'm hoping since it's summer and we can be outside more that it won't be to chaotic.
@dntstpbelieveing I'm a teacher so I'm due at the end of the school year. We don't have to pay for daycare over the summer so we'll just keep our 4 year old enrolled until the last day of school. I don't know I'll actually be taking him if I deliver closer to that date (June 12) but it will be a nice option. My husband will be taking 3 weeks of FMLA after baby so he'll be home to bring our son to daycare. His PreK ends the week before Memorial Day so that should be done by the time I deliver. He begins Kinder next fall so we won't need daycare anymore after June.
I will be taking 12 weeks of FMLA once the school year begins, or splitting it between the end of the year and beginning of next year if I deliver before June 5th. I should be off work until around mid-end November. I have 6 weeks of short term disability, which will be paid in the summer when I am also getting my regular paycheck since ours are split over 12 months.
I plan on saving about $500/paycheck for my pregnancy and all of the disability payments to cover my 12 weeks of FMLA in the fall.
I'm also a teacher, so will be keeping my son home with me for the summer. We are lucky that we don't have to pay daycare during the summer, but I'm a little nervous about chasing around a toddler with a newborn all summer!
I think doing this monthly sounds good, we can just keep chatting on the same thread in the meantime! Thanks for doing this!

How many kids do you already have? Ages? 3.5 y.o. DS He'll have just turned 4 if and when this one arrives.
How are your other kids doing this week? Great. He's a bit sleep deprived but we're working on it.
Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? I cried this morning over the fact I'll have even less time to spend with him. I promised myself I would keep the option to change or quit my job on the table, so that if it gets to be too much, I can correct this. I travel a lot for work and I was gone last week and will be again a week from now, so it's a particularly bad time to be thinking about all this. Thankfully, I think I'll be able to avoid travel for a good stretch after this next trip: from just before Halloween until after the New Year.
GTKY:
What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives?

19) He's already in a bed and potty trained; we're considering moving to a new house, since we're currently in a two-bedroom condo. But I like where we are so much and am dreading the idea of a longer commute. The decision can wait a while though, until after the anatomy scan! I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, as I'm 40 and keep trying not to get too attached to the idea that this is a viable pregnancy... I guess it's my way of coping with the stress.
How many kids do you already have? Ages? I have 3 kiddos. My oldest son is 3 and my boy/girl twins are 16 months.
How are your other kids doing this week? Good! Headed to PA to visit my husband’s parents and my oldest is really looking forward to it. We are finally reaching the point where they will play together without killing each other.
Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Not really. Maybe the hormones haven’t kicked in enough to get riled about anything, haha. And this rodeo isn’t new this time around, so no questions yet!
GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19) We’ve actually covered most of those milestones! How many kids do you already have? Ages? 14 month Daughter - this one is a little earlier than expected
How are your other kids doing this week? DD is doing great, she's walking better, and babbling more. We're slowly transitioning off the bottle, she now only has one in the morning and one at night.
Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Just concerned with the age being so close, they'll be 22 months apart. I have no idea how DD will react.
GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19): Definitely get her off the bottle, and will see how far along we can get with potty training. I hear you can't really start till they're ready. Also, we're currently looking for a new place to live, so hopefully that's final!
@jacksonbears, you’re going to handle the close age difference like a champ. My oldest and my twins are 20 months apart and I’ll not lie and say it was easy, but they definitely entertain each other now and just think how much faster you’ll be out of diapers!
Married 25 May, 2013 William Alexander born 18 September, 2015 Harper Grace born 9 June, 2017 Colton Miles born 9 June, 2017 Bowen James due 19 June, 2019
@KissMeImScottish yes! I keep thinking that! However, we're not sure if we're going to stick with 2, or go with a 3rd. But we said if we go for the 3rd, we'll wait a little longer, so the diaper phase might be stretched out!
@jacksonbears my daughter is 20 months now and is OBSESSED with babies. I bet when your daughter is 22 months she’s just going to dote all over her little brother/sister. Also, this is a new fun age where she likes to help with little errands. I’m slightly embarrassed to admit it but I’ve already started getting her to go in different rooms and get things by herself. That way she can do those things when #2 is here. (That was hard to explain without using the words “training” or “fetch”)
@srscott3 HAHA, i love it! At daycare DD helps the teachers put bottles in bags, she loves being around the younger ones. Plus my sister just had a baby, we're going to visit them this weekend, we'll see how they interact.
How many kids do you already have? Ages? DD turned 2 in August
How are your other kids doing this week? She has been exceptionally sweet. I expect a storm is coming soon.
Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? I wish I could leapfrog over the first trimester. I am trying so hard to appreciate every moment but it’s hard when I am so exhausted and anxious.
GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. We have been slowly potty training. Some days it’s a win and others a complete loss.
How many kids do you already have? Ages? I have an almost 5-month-old son. My babies will only be 13 months apart and I'm looking forward to having an empty nest before the rest of my friends lol.
How are your other kids doing this week? He's having a bit of a clingy phase and doesn't want to nap for more than 20 minutes.
Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? I exclusively pump breastmilk due to my son being a micro preemie. Unfortunately, these pregnancy hormones are trying their best to dry up my milk. Switching my son to formula will bother me more than him considering he drank fortifier and extra calorie formula (along with breastmilk) for the first 3 months of his life.
GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before the baby arrives? I would like for my son to be in his crib. He's normally very independent and I'm hoping to get him that way again. I would love for him to be able to play and eat independently before this baby arrives.
How many kids do you already have? I have a four year old son and an almost three year old daughter
How are your other kids doing this week? My son is having major four year old attitude that is really trying! I've found him repeating one of my go to phrases 'It's not going to happen' when I ask him to do things and I'm torn between ripping my hair out and bursting out laughing because he sou ds so serious and I can just hear my voice and tone coming from his mouth. My daughter is wild, as always but starting to love her gymnastics class so hoping that helps focus some of her energy.
Rants/Raves? It's only October and I'm already so done with cold weather! Snowflakes this morning again. BUT since Alberta never knows what it's doing with weather, apparently the upcoming week is going to be warm and lovely!
GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? We just started a new dayhome so focus right now is on that adjustment. DD is fine but DS still asks every day if we're going to the old dayhome and we He can see those friends and it just breaks my heart.
How many kids do you already have? Ages? 1DS 14months How are your other kids doing this week? Good, we are having to go back to sleep training because we had a set back a few weeks when he was sick. How are your other kids doing this week? They are both very excited to have a baby.
Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? My daughter is very jealous when it comes to other children needing my attention. I'm hoping as she gets a bit older, and closer to when baby comes, she will be more comfortable with mommy holding another baby lol.
GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19) we plan to redo both childrens bedrooms. DD is basically already fully day trained, and shes transitioned to her toddler bed just fine.
How many kids do you already have? Ages?DS will be 2 in three weeks
How are your other kids doing this week? He's good! He has been breaking out in hives the last couple of days, but no fever or trouble breathing, so I think it's just viral. Poor kiddo got my sensitive skin issues.
Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?I haven't had many symptoms yet, which is making me nervous when I know I should just enjoy it while I can. I was soooo nauseous by 6 weeks last time, and this time I feel fine. I know each pregnancy is different, but it's hard not to compare.
GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Oh boy... let's see. We're working on renovating his big boy room (new windows, floors, paint. We'll move him into it sometime this winter or spring so the nursery will be freed up. I'll also want to potty train at some point. He only just started showing interest, so I'm going to follow his lead there. I'm keeping him in his crib for as long as I possibly can. He doesn't climb out, and he is such a great sleeper, so I don't want to mess with that until I have to. I'll buy a second convertible crib if I have to.

How many kids do you already have? Ages? I have one son, he will turn two in about a month.
How are your other kids doing this week? He's doing well, he's hard into the "no" and do it myself phase so that can be really hard and frustrating. He is learning so much right now and it's super awesome to witness.
Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Rant: I hate first tri, and it sucks being due at the end of the month because everyone else gets to do everything first. 😜 It's also really hard to wait so long to hear the heartbeat or see an ultrasound (I am not scheduled for an early ultrasound because I know my dates. I am thankful in one way because it means I'm low risk but it's still hard!) Rave: I only had 3 sodas last week, which is awesome because I'm trying to quit and it's really hard!
GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. Thankfully DS has already made some of the big transitions (potty trained during the day (with some accidents) and he is out of the crib because he was climbing out.
@desoky01 I can 100% relate to hating the waiting period. Like you said, I am SO grateful not to be high risk, and therefore not need early appointments, but my first OB appointment isn't until Nov 16, and that's not even an u/s appointment! At least this time I know a lot more about what I'm not supposed to eat and all of that, but the waiting is so hard!

Question for you guys. DD will be 2 the same month this baby arrives. I plan to have baby in bassinet in my room for a few months and I can’t decide if I should just transition DD to a toddler bed/full bed at that time? Seems silly to have 2 cribs for such a short time. Anyone have any input??
@ShadeofGreen816 we transitioned DS1 when he was 2 almost to the week and we will transition DS2 when he is two which will be right when this baby is born.
It wasn’t hard transition for DS1 but he is an easy going kid. Although if you decide not to move him and get another crib (we had two since my first 2 are only a year apart) we bought the conversion kit with it and my daughters bed is her old crib and I can’t tell you how much I adore it. It’s a full bed and it’s cute as can be. It is definitely an option so you feel like you don’t waste money buying a crib for a short period of time.
@ShadeofGreen816 I got a crib that converts into a toddler bed, and I will probably buy a second convertible crib/toddler bed for #2. My son turns 2 in 3 weeks, but still isn't climbing out of the crib, and I'm in no rush to ruin a good thng, since he sleeps so well in the crib. I fear if he's uncontained, he'll never sleep again.

@shamrocandroll we were so close to not getting the kit because everyone convinced us we’d never use it, we’d get another bed when the time came and just sell/donate the crib. Best decision we made, my daughter is a very sensitive kid and has loved every stage of her crib/bed. Plus it’s a full - how crazy would it be if she had the same bed from birth to when she graduates. Something about that sounds kinda cool to me.
@ShadeofGreen816 If you're going to do the transition, you might want do it a month or so before the baby comes. That way your daughter is (hopefully) used to her new bed and sleeping through the night and she doesn't associate the new baby coming with also losing her bed. That's a lot of change for a little person. Just my two cents.
How many kids do you already have? Ages? DD is 2 (May 2016)
How are your other kids doing this week? DD is two and we're dealing with the challenges of life at 2. Nothing crazy, no tantrums, just an endless cycle of "I do it myself." She's super independent and has a lot to say about everything. I'm often reminding myself that these are characteristics I'll appreciate when she's a teen and adult.
Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? We have a family trip to Disney planned in 2 weeks. I've done so much to prep and plan for this trip. I'm excited about baby #2, but worried I won't be myself on this expensive trip lol.
GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? I need to figure out our daycare situation. Around here, I need to get on wait lists soon if I want to secure a great daycare for baby #2. DD will be headed to preschool next fall and I'm worried it'll be a lot of newness for her with the baby and new school. Do I want to send them to the same place or transition my daughter to a stand alone preschool? So, I'm about to start touring daycares and preschools. Hopefully we find a plan that works.
