STM Check-In October

In our sticky announcements this says monthly, do we want monthly? It seems like there are a lot of other weekly check-ins. So maybe it would be good to keep this monthly for less clutter? We can keep it as an ongoing conversation about STM stuff. Thoughts?

Current W+D and EDD:

How many kids do you already have? Ages?

How are your other kids doing this week?

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?

Re: STM Check-In October

  • I think monthly is good for this.

    Current W+D and EDD: 4+3, 6/13

How many kids do you already have? Ages? Niece is almost 10, DS is 3

How are your other kids doing this week? School is a struggle for neice. She essentially has ADD and we are struggling to get her to have any control over herself. DS is doi g good. Super clingy, like he can sense some things up.....

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19) Potty training and not coming to my bed at 3am. Ss this pregnancy progresses, I wont be able to tolerate DH, DS, dog, and my uber clingy cat in bed with me.

  • @prpl11butterfly That is a lot in one bed! Hope you have a big one! I am also dreading potty training.

    Current W+D and EDD: 3+6

How many kids do you already have? Ages? DD just turned 2 in August

How are your other kids doing this week? DD refused nap 3 days this week. Ugh! And we have the beginning of the 2 year molars. Teething never ends.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? We are taking DD on our first overnight trip as a family soon to Chicago for a mini family vacation. I am soooo freaking excited you guys! Our family needs this so badly after a horrible last 12 months.

We will be hitting up the rainforest cafe, Shedd aquarium, Maggie Daley park, AND sesame street live! I have been prepping car activities for the last two weeks as it is just over a 3 hour drive for us (coloring books, stickers, tablet, play doh, magnetic face game, etc). We even got her brand new elmo PJs and slippers to give to her on the trip. She is gonna be so excited! Hell I am ready to go now!

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19): We will be transitioning to a big girl bed probably in the next month or so. We ordered it and its in, just need to pick it up. First we have to toddler proof the room. Any suggestions with crib to bed transitions appreciated!

How many kids do you already have? Ages? DS, 13 months old

How are your other kids doing this week? Crabby, has a molar coming in and is SO whiny.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Super nervous to transition to 2 kids under 2. I know plenty of women do it but I am a young mom (will only be 21 when second baby is born) so it’s a struggle as is.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Off the bottle and starting potty training!
  • Current W+D and EDD: 4+5 edd: 6/11

How many kids do you already have? Ages? I have a 2 year old son (June)

How are your other kids doing this week? He is good. Working on his molars so dealing with lots of poop .

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19) we are idiots and are potty training and switching out of the crib at the same time. DS currently naps in a twin but sleeps at night in his crib (his choice). DH is building a bed/toddler room so we will make a big push when that is complete.
  • I like keeping it a monthly thread.

    Current W+D and EDD: June 3rd, 5+6

How many kids do you already have? Ages? I have 4 kids, 16B, 4G, 2B, 1G.

How are your other kids doing this week? They are all sick with a nasty cold so I'm cleaning a lot of snotty noses. Other than that they are doing great.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? I hate the fact that everyone asks if this is the last baby. We have planned all of these babies (except for our oldest) because we want a big family. Honestly, I would have several more if my husband would get on board with it. It is so rude to make comments like, "well I guess your done now, no need for anymore babies after this one," etc.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. I may try to potty train my youngest. She is 12 months right now. I usually start training my kids anywhere between 18-20 months.

How many kids do you already have? Ages? DD is 3

How are your other kids doing this week? She is super defiant and crabby and I wish I knew why. Threenagers.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? We weren’t planning on trying for number 2 until May, but surprise! So daycare for 2 will be super tight. I wish I could just SAH but our insurance is through me.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Definitely potty training. My kid has absolutely zero interest but I don’t want 2 in diapers.
  • Current W+D and EDD: 5Wks+1D  06/08EDD

How many kids do you already have? Ages? One son, 4.5yrs

How are your other kids doing this week? Meh. We'll be having a really great day and then he'll have a massive meltdown. I'm confident in my responses and know it's part of the process, but man does it take a toll.

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?

Today has definitely been a rave! DH took the lead on parenting duties and I've basically had the entire day "off" to just lay in bed, binge Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries, shave my legs and play board games with DH&DS. 😍

GTKY: DS is still in diapers for nighttime. I believe that he'll transition when he's physically capable of holding it for that length of time but, still. I'd  like for him to be completely out of them by the time baby comes.

How many kids do you already have? Ages?
One DD who will be 2 in February (20 months on Thursday)

How are your other kids doing this week? Tantrums just started and I’m not loving them. But she’s also being incredibly cute and snuggly lately so I’m soaking all that in.

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
We live about 5 hours by car from our closest family. Starting to wonder what we’re going to do when baby #2 gets here and what we’ll do with DD. (ETA: only for the delivery part. Obviously we can handle raising both our kids 😂)

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives?
Not too much actually! DD used to need about an hour of rocking/walking to fall asleep and she would still then end up in our bed in the middle of the night. About 2 months ago we did sleep training and it’s been amazing. She now puts herself to sleep at 7 in her crib and doesn’t wake up until 7 the next morning. Kicking myself for not doing this earlier.
Only thing we mayyyy do is start potty training. But only if she’s ready.

How many kids do you already have? Ages?
    One son who is 2

How are your other kids doing this week?
Hes having a blast having grandma in town!

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
    Nothin today

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom.

We are going to give potty training a shot before baby comes but I fully expect potential regressions once baby arrives so I don’t know ha
  • I agree with monthly; I see this more of a place to chat about STM things, no real need to 'check-in'.   Also, crazy to think of myself as an STM, haha.

    Current W+D and EDD: 5w5d

How many kids do you already have? Ages? 2 (Sept)

How are your other kids doing this week? We had a really nice weekend, a fall fest and a nice park date with friends with a kid his age.  He didn't have a good nap this weekend though.  I do not have today off but H and daycare do.  Kiddo woke up a touch early and in a fussy mood too today, good luck hubs!

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Oh my little guy has been super cuddle bug (read extremely clingy) since day one, some moments now I freak out and wonder if we should have waited a bit longer.  I can see clearly how having a 3 and 6-year-old looks like but a newborn and toddler is opake. We have a two bedroom condo so in the future, I'll be asking about ideas for that. We just bought two years ago (never make giant life choices pregnant) and really need to be here a few more years or we will lose like 20k. Worst case we still sell, take the hit and just rent.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19)
E will be 2yrs8mon when this baby comes, my goal is both crib to bed and potty training. I think I'll do potty after the holidays, no idea for crib but probably soon, I think he is super close to climbing out.
  • Current W+D and EDD: 5+4, 6/6

How many kids do you already have? Ages?
One son, he'll be 2 in February

How are your other kids doing this week?
He's getting back to his normal sleep pattern which is nice. He is also starting to eat dinner again which is probably helping with the normal sleep.

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
How are you other moms handling any nausea and toddler chasing? MH is doing most of it but I'm feeling guilty for leaving the brunt of it to him when we usually split 50/50.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19)
If he was potty trained by the time the next baby arrives I would be thrilled. But we will wait until he starts to show signs that he is ready.

  • Current W+D and EDD: 6w1d, EDD June 2nd

How many kids do you already have? Ages?: 1 son, he's 4. Will be 5 in July

How are your other kids doing this week?: Nothing major to report. He goes to preschool from 8am-11am 5 days a week with daycare on either side of that (about 745am-8am and then 11am-430pm-ish when pick up on the way home from work).

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? The all day nausea is kicking.my.butt. I need to call my midwife's office to see if they can prescribe me something. Nothing helps long term and teaching while feeling like you want to vomit all day is getting old really quickly.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives?: Nothing really. My son is going to be starting Kinder next year, but like I said he's in preK (2nd year ) and daycare since 13 months so that won't be a big issue. Plus, he'll be attending the elementary school I work in so that'll be fun once my leave ends.

  • prpl11butterfly   That sounds like a fun night time. My cat thinks she is a dog and likes to sleep by me in the bed as well and she is the worst bed buddy.

@meatballs37 I am jealous of your Chicago trip. We are on fall break right now and I wanted to go somewhere so bad. There just isn't enough paid time off and hou

@hannahcc You've got this girl! I wish I had the stamina I did at 21 to be able to function on no sleep!

@jhems776 I have a 6&3 year old. The 3yo was in a rock n play in our room until he outgrew it then they slept in the same room and now sleep in the same bed. We have 4 bedrooms and they don't have any interest in having separate rooms. They love being together.

    Current W+D and EDD: 3w3d edd22nd

How many kids do you already have? Ages? 2 boys 6&3

How are your other kids doing this week? 3YO is mad because the 6YO is on Fall Break and I made him go to school while big brother got to stay home. It was bad enough that the school called me and asked me to go get said 3YO.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives?: Nothing really. Maybe teaching the 7&4 (time of birth) year olds how to change a diaper! That would be nice.

How many kids do you already have? Ages?   I have a 4 year old DS and a daughter not with us anymore.

How are your other kids doing this week?  He is good.  I told my son's preschool teachers I was pregnant today and one of them was like I knew it!  DS has been acting off and I knew that's what it was.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?  I have another beta Wednesday.  The bad thing about finding out so early is I still have that much longer until I can hear a heartbeat.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19)  He won't need much since he is already 4 and will be 5 when the baby is born.  We are actually moving and have the master and one bedroom downstairs and the other bedrooms upstairs.  So trying to figure out whether to put him downstairs or not.  I would rather since the baby will sleep in our room for a while at first.
  • I've already on a bit of the struggle bus right now with parenting through these hormones, fatigue, and anxiety. I feel like I just give in right away to what my newly two year old wants or I'm super strict.  Like fine just have noodles and crackers for dinner or he only gets what we made and nothing else period.
  • @jhems776 I’m right there with you. DD has had chicken nuggets three days in a row because I don’t feel like battling.

General question: when did your toddler give up naps? I’m afraid we are close to that 😭

  • @meatballs37 I know there is a sleep regression around 2. Perhaps your DD is going through that? My son is around the same age and went through short naps and early morning wakings for a while there...things seem semi- back to normal (for now) ha
  • Napping can stop at 2?! Oh man. I am really hoping to hold onto that nap until three to get some down town after the new baby is born. DS is 100% go go go when he is awake.
  • @meatballs37 Mine also stopped around 2. No quiet time either 😫 But she is asleep in bed at 6:30, so thats the nice trade off.
  • DS naps at daycare regularly but weekends are hit or miss. He still passes out if we are in the car for more then 20min so sometimes we can get lucky there. If we are home though, forget it. That's been going on for 6m to a year now. He is generally in bed by 745 and alseep by 8.

How many kids do you already have? Ages?
    4 (SS 12, DD 4, DS1 3, DS2 1)

How are your other kids doing this week?
Since they are none the wiser, the chaos and drama is pretty standard

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
The transition from 2 to 3 was harder for me than 1 to 2. Anyone have advice on 3 to 4? I am slightly nervous I have gotten a tad in over my head.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19)
Finish construction on our house. We may transition the 1 year old to a crib but I am frankly in no hurry. Also inherit/acquire boatloads of money. Throwing it out there just in case.
  • @meatballs37, my daughter stopped napping at age 3.5. She has been doing a quiet time every day for a year now. I have an okay to wake clock that has a nap timer and I set it for an hour. She goes in there and reads and plays with a toy quietly. Then once the clock turns green she comes out and we do story time.
  • Does anyone else feel way bigger far earlier than you did with previous pregnancies?

This is my 2nd and I’m already looking like I did around 12-13 weeks with my 1st. I’m 6w3d today.

This is my post-shower, exhausted, in my PJs, nauseous pic 😬

I did have a big dinner and I’m much smaller when I wake up in the morning for sure...but by night time I’m so bloated and round!

For comparison...this was 6 weeks with my son.

Granted, I was doing CrossFit 3-4 days a week for two years prior to this and all during his pregnancy. I weighed about 135lbs then vs 155lbs now....sooooo. Yeah
    BabyFruit Ticker

  • @Erin1510 I definitely feel more bloated this time around. I think I have a few extra pounds in my belly starting out than I did with my son, so maybe that is making the difference! I have heard that you show much faster with subsequent pregnancies so we shall see!
  • @Erin1510 I'm also much bigger by the end of the day.  I think part of it is my abs aren't as strong this time to suck in the bloating. The bloat is definitely worse this time.
  • Ok so I know this is early but I'm trying to figure out $ and how much leave I can take. What are you plans for your LO when you are on maternity leave if your kiddo is in daycare. Send them full time? Part time? Keep them home?
  • @dntstpbelieveing I plan to continue sending DS to daycare and neice will be in day camp since school will be letting out shortly after birth. No way am I going to be home with a newborn and 2 kids. Also, I can't risk losing DS's daycare slot. It's tough to come by around here.
  • @prpl11butterfly I agree with @dntstpbelieveing... I kept first DS in daycare full time when second DS was born and I’ll do the same this time. You don’t want to worry about parenting a toddler while you have a newborn and are readjusting to the lack of sleep, etc. Also, keeping the routine as closely as possible for the older child is important since their whole world gets rocked when introducing a new baby to the family.
  • @dntstpbelieveing I plan to continue sending DS to daycare too, we will have just switched in March and I do not want too many changes.  Also, I think the time alone with the new little one is important.
  • ugh. you all make sense. I was just hoping to save a little money. Plus the idea of getting both kids out of the house to get DS to daycare in the morning sounds rough. (DH leaves for work at like 5 am). but at least it will be summer and not winter!
  • My daycare does not do part-time (most do not around here), if they did and I wouldn't lose my full-time spot for the fall I'd think about part-time.

  • I will be parenting all my kids while adjusting with a newborn. Last time it went so smooth. She just fell into our routine with ease. I'm hoping it goes that smooth again.

I stay home with DD during the week. DH has off weekends while I work. So it will be interesting to have a newborn and toddler at home at the same time. I welcome the challenge though because I love it now with just DD. Not ideal for family time together, but it helps with our finances not paying daycare.
