  • Oh shoot @kayjay44. That's really shit luck. I hope it's a relatively mild one and that you can take the time to rest and recuperate.

@sonicearplugs don't get me started on the buttruffles!  :s Non-gendered clothing, especially for an infant, is not that complicated. Actually, it just needs to simple! If someone has a brand recommendation for simple, plain baby clothes, I am all ears.

  • @sonicearplugs I hear ya on the gendered clothing. I know I'm having a boy, but that doesn't mean I want to only dress him in prints with footballs, monsters and race cars. Just like if I had a girl I wouldn't want her all in florals or pink hearts. What happened to good ol' stripes and dots??

  • I was just looking at some cute Aden & Anais onsies that were neutral. Burt’s Bees Baby too. Both on the spendier side though.
  • @madreofdragons I've seen those and they're really cute. Not willing to spend that much on itty bitty baby clothes though, they'll be outgrown so fast! If I find them second hand or heavily discounted I might pull the trigger.

I just ordered some of Burt’s Bees Baby sale stuff right now. Hit post before I meant to. Oops. I blame you guys. Lol.
  • @madreofdragons I saw some ADORABLE Burt’s Bees Christmas-colored PJ sets at Whole Foods yesterday. It took all the self control not to buy them in the 12 month size for next year
  • Primary.com is great for solid colored baby clothes. Baby boy’s coming home sleeper is from there.

  • Get well soon @kayjay44 !!

All the clothes that I've added to the registry are gender neutral, a) I am not a fan of pink and b) if we have a second child and it's a boy I want to reuse it without too much judgement
  • @becks_726 no name, very few clothes over here. The only clothes that I have are a few favorites from my other 2 kids and a couple of Kickee hoards.

I love Kickee Pants sleepers for tinies, but they are very pricy compared to basics like Carters, which I usually lean towards for practical purposes. I do have a nice sibling set for pictures that is Kickee rainbow stripe since this our rainbow baby.
  • @kayjay44- So sorry to hear that! Hope you get a chance to rest and recuperate although I know that's not really compatible with real life.
  • @okayestmom12 how’s the quality on the primary stuff? I’ve been looking at them but wasn’t sure how they hold up since I’ve never seen them before the other day.
  • @kayjay44 feel better soon!

@okayestmom12 primary was my first thought for simple clothes too! I had the hardest time dressing DS when he was tiny because I HATE all the message tee's ("Mommy's Man Crush!" and "Daddy's Little Princess!" make me want to gag). I just think it's stupid that it has to be all sooo intensely gendered. Am I going to put a bow on this baby girl the minute she emerges from my womb (Edited because womb autocorrected to wound lol)? Absolutely yes. But I still think it's annoying that there aren't any neutral options
  • Anyone have great ideas on child locks for closets? The type that don't have knobs but those stupid magnetic things that "hold them shut". We tried the latch style child lock but it is not working.

Fyi: not for a kid but my dog. He keeps opening the hall closet and going to the food thing and self serving. Yes, he is too smart amd can open latches, lids amd doors no issues. We currently have 3 latch style kid locks on this door and he just pops the door. It took 2 for the fridge. We have to buy dog food more than we should, not to mention he eats the cat food too...

Can't wait to see how he and the baby will tag team things
  • @kayjay44 oh no! Get well soon!

Re: clothes - I also HATE the stupid messages on shirts and my sister loves buying them ugh!  Carters has some cute gender neutral stuff but I am the GIRLIEST girl and if I were having a girl it would be disgusting the amount of pink, florals, and bows I would be buying LOL

@hnbergeron I don’t have an easy solution but your doggo is one smart cookie!

I feel you on the smart dog issue. We have 3 dogs which I will never do again! We love them all it’s just too much at once lol But they get into our locked trash can in the kitchen so we’ve had baby gates up since last October they only help with two out of three of the dogs. The third one (huge German Shepherd) will just jump the gate if he really wants what is in the trash. We can’t raise the gate either because our black lab beagle mix will just crawl under it. We now take the trash out immediately if any sort of food is in there.
  • @hnbergeron has an alternative storage place for dog food already been eliminated? I have magnetic door locks I bought them off amazon, don't know the brand. just search magnetic door locks.
  • Cue meltdown. We live in a very old house which we have renovated over the last 2 years. It is actually the house I grew up in. When my dad died in 2016, we inherited it and will be buying it. It has had very few issues the 30+ years that my Dad owned it. However, it sat empty for a couple of years between end of ‘14-beginning of ‘17 and it has been a costly endeavor. We had to do serious electrical and gas work initially, then replace hot water heater and re-run some plumbing, then we had a roof leak. All of that was over $5k. We then had various cosmetic and small mechanical projects throughout the house, plus painting, floor refinishing, yada yada. We finally moved in this August. Since then, our central AC failed and now we have a water leak.. but not just ANY water leak. It’s from a a main drain the runs from the upstairs (only) bathroom and with it comes possible black mold and it’s probably going to be a stupid expensive fix. If it’s the pipe that they think it is, we will literally have to rip out the kitchen cabinets to access it because it runs through an outside wall behind my kitchen. Strangle me now?

The one redeeming thing is that this property is still in probate and these expenses should be able to be charged back to the estate before the final sale of the house. The bad thing is that I do not have the money out of pocket to afford it. I don’t use credit cards anymore and haven’t for a few years. I don’t really want to start again but I don’t know what to do. Fingers crossed for better news when the plumber comes back tomorrow.
  • @cmjenkies that sounds terrible and so stressful!! We don't do credit cards either ... would a loan directly from the bank be any easier to stomach than a CC? I'm sure there are some zero interest options that could be helpful. But still ... ugh. Fingers crossed for good news from the plumber!
  • Oh man, @cmjenkies. That is A LOT to handle. FX the plumber has good, not very costly, news.

  • @cmjenkies- That sounds hideous. I am so so sorry!
  • It’s relatively mild, but it still fucking sucks. I’ve also got nose bleeds from the dry weather which is causing me to throw up on top of the flu. DH worked from home yesterday so he could help out some and made it clear that he would come home today if I needed him which is nice. I’m just trying to stay comfortable and hydrated. And my boss told me not to come in and get some rest even if I was starting to feel better (I’m not but was still debating going in because OCD is a cruel bitch that has me convinced constantly I am about to be fired).

@grebretso - I had bronchitis and walking pneumonia when DS was born - unfortunately I know how terrible it is to be super sick in labor  :D:( at least I’m only peeing myself a little bit and not a lot since I’m not super pregnant. And this is still better than Noro virus TBH.

I’m going back to sleep and might be MIAish.

  • I got a couple cute onsie t-shirts, I forget what they say, but they were neutral colour, I remember one says "milk belly" <3<3
  • @kayjay44 I’m starting to think we are the same person. I feel you on the constant feeling I’m going to be fired. Even thought logically I know that thought is insane it is always in my head. Glad you’re getting some rest and hope it passes soon!
  • @cmjenkies that is a lot to handle- I’m hoping for the best possible outcome.

  • Ah @cmjenkies houses are never ending projects!  Good luck!  We didn't buy a fixer upper but a lot of unexpected money went into this house.
  • @cmjenkies ugh sorry you have this stress on top of everything else! Hoping for good news from the plumber!

@kayjay44 sorry you’re sick, it sounds awful. Hope you can get lots of rest and feel better soon!
  • @kayjay44 I always think I’m about to be fired. Anxiety is a bitch. Hope you’re on the mend soon ❤️
  • @kayjay44 I hope you feel better soon! <3
  • Maybe a UO or a FFTC, that I'm enjoying the cat GIFing troll who keeps posting in the blackout posts. The cat usernames are freaking clever and I'm almost jealous I'm not that creative.

Check out June 2018 bmb for the blackout thread for a ton of cat gifs. I've had a chuckle.

Also note that I didnt participate in this blackout simply because I was part of the exodus in 2015 when that shit show happened, the bump literally didn't care then and I just didn't feel it would make a difference. Plus I can't help myself with checking in here to at least have a browse every day.
  • @cmjenkies yikes, thats a lot! Hope the plumber comes back with better news!

  • Also was here for mass exodus, and also not my circus not my monkeys BUT the cat gif is annoying me.

@Venessa88- I hear ya. I don't really get what happened, specifically, but it's definitely in the 'not my circus, not my monkeys'/'bigger fish to fry' department.
Same! Also love how you put this-not my circus, not my monkeys’

Yeah I felt the girl didn’t explain clearly why I should be invested in the blackout.
