It went from “Indian Summer” to “Winter is Coming” in basically 24 hours (Rhode Island). I used to stand firm in my “I’m not turning the heat on until November” feelings but caved today. 60° in the house and I kicked it on. Brrrrr.
soooooooooo...my downstairs neighbor called our management company on us to complain about "excessive noise" which is really hilarious because the only noise he's ever complained about is my TODDLER SON just living his life in our apartment. Seriously, since we've moved in, the guy below us has been making comments about how loud our son is. Look, I get it, he is a boisterous little ball of energy but we HAVE taken precautions to make the noise less severe (more carpet, discipline DS not to throw toys, etc). This guy actually complained when my son was 6 months old and was in his stationary play chair thingie ON A RUG...saying his daughters (teenagers that he has ONLY on weekends) complain about the noise on early weekend mornings. PUH-LEASE.
I handled the call from my property manager with grace and poise - I worked in property management for two years so I've dealt with the same exact issues on the opposite end. He actually complained about excessive noise at 2-5AM "SOMETIMES" - which I can tell you is either me or DH walking into DS's room in the middle of the night to comfort him when he cries. Dude, give it a rest. The property manager was actually super nice and apologetic about it and understands that some people just don't get that they're living in an apartment building (and old one with creaky floors btw) and not a private house. I documented the call with an email of course because I know the ropes LOL not that I think any further action will be taken but I just can't believe my neighbor! Someone who HAS CHILDREN and you're complaining about us walking into his room at night? Seriously? Wait until the newborn comes!
@danixbanani24 Wow, what a jerk. Some people shouldn’t live in apartments! I’ve complained about our upstairs neighbors a couple times, but never because of normal day to day things. The stuff I complain about is like, all night weekday parties, vacuuming at 2 am and my personal favorite: dumping trash and the contents of their vacuum cleaner from their balcony onto our patio. Yep, that happened more than once and I actually caught them on video once.
I’m actually worried about them waking up baby, because they come home around 10pm and stomp around while yelling. It even wakes me up sometimes!

@danixbanani24 some people just shouldn’t be living in apartments if they can’t deal with minor noise like that. Plus it’s not like you all are stomping around in the middle of the night or having parties. He needs to chill out.
@grebretso your neighbors dumped trash on your balcony?!? Geeze what a-holes. Too bad you can’t have your cat revenge puke on their doorstep or car or something.
Has anyone seen the new series on Netflix called The Haunting of Hill House? I just watched the first episode and it is so awesomely scary and spooky! Totally creeped me out. I love a good ghost story and this one is hitting the spot for me so far.
@allthingsgo Ha, that would be a good one. We’re not trying to start a neighbor war though, so we’re staying squeaky clean! Also when I went up to complain directly to them the first time they threw trash, the guy couldn’t understand why that would be a problem. I was like... dust on all of our things, and rotting, smelly fruit doesn’t sound like an issue to you...?
The last time I caught them I started yelling and screaming (which is extremely out of character for me), and they ran inside and closed their door. Haven’t had an issue with it since, so I guess I’ll be the yelling, screaming crazy neighbor lady from now on. Whatever it takes I guess!

I had apartment neighbors in grad school that left a bucket of kerosene on their porch (Please don't ask why! I can't think of a logical explanation.). Visitors threw a lit cigarette in it and burned my apartment to the ground. Totally destroyed everything I had. Bastards.
@grebretso Thankfully I had renters insurance. I saved my cats and myself. That's it! But DH and I got to get brand new stuff for our first house. So silver linings I guess.
@bellebaby221 I’m glad you had insurance!! It’s a lifesaver, especially if you live in an apartment. No matter how careful you are, your neighbors could be complete idiots like yours were.

@bellebaby221 holy crap! I had residents in the building where I worked keeping gasoline jugs (like for the car) in their apartment! They didn't understand why their neighbors were upset or why they couldn't do that!
@grebretso I had a NIGHTMARE upstairs neighbor where I last lived. Noise at all hours, loud screaming/bed scraping across the floor/head board banging sex almost every night and the bed sounded like a cartoon spring bed. It was a nightmare for us - my son was born and while they didn't wake up him, they kept us awake more than our newborn. We tried every avenue to allay the noise (management, asking nicely, etc) but he was just an a-hole (our neighbor upstairs) so we eventually moved when DS was 6 months old. HORRIBLE. We still have PTSD from it if we hear even a minor like bed squeak LOL
@allthingsgo - I’m intrigued by that show since I’ve heard it’s good but I’m a HUGE wimp and will probably only watch it during the broad daylight.
I had grand plans of making philly cheesesteak sliders tonight but my throat is killing me from non-stop coughing so DH is bringing home wonton soup & a scallion pancake for me. Good man.
So my house is over run with ppl for the foreseeable next 3 weeks. My mother in law her husband, her sister and our 4 nephews are staying with use till they have power back on. The live in Mexico beach lucky they only lost power. But my 3 boys pluse there 4 makes me miss drinking right now..... rant over.
@allthingsgo I want to watch it so bad! I’m gonna start tomorrow after DS goes to bed I think ...
We’ve been thinking about asking our upstairs neighbors to tone it down! They’re SO loud stomping around all night. Not normal noise stuff, like stomping and running and suuuuper loud music in the middle of the night. It’s annoying during the day but not something I’d ever complain about. But when you wake up my kid at 1:30 then I get pissed. I feel bad because it’s a little girl who lives up there (probably 7 years old) but like ... she should be in bed at 1:30. They just moved in so I might ask our friends in the leasing office to just gently remind them of the quiet hours. Ughhhh
I've been wondering that too, @megpants209! We are team green by choice. Other team green moms, how are you finding clothes shopping? Name picking? Do you have a feeling either way?
I have never cry-laughed so hard in my life. Not preg related but omg I was dying, I am sure baby was wondering what the earth quake was all about... couldn't stop cry laughing.
@BourbonBiscuits let me know what you think of it! Also sorry you got inconsiderate upstairs neighbors! Why the heck would people with a 7 yo be playing music so late at night?? I’d be pissed too if they woke up my kid.
By the way, props to those who are staying team green! I briefly thought about it but then was like nope I’m too impatient.
@megpants209 we’re team green - by chance. Baby was being stubborn last scan. Some clothes (grey or white onesies), no name. Stubborn baby made me realize I don’t really mind being team green though. We might stay on this one now.
have you ever been on a bus ride home that is approx 45-50 minutes with incredible stomach pains and the “oh shit I literally have to shit” bad feeling? Yeah.......
We currently don't have a name either way and I haven't done any shopping. My cousin gave me a ton of her daughter's stuff from early newborn stage and she was team green so it's mainly neutral colours. We also still have some sleepers from DD which are also neutral..ish from being team green for her.
@megpants209 I'm still team green, by choice! Also team no clothes. I've started eyeing some obviously gendered onesies and swaddles though, because damnit if I have a little girl she is going to wear all of the dinosaur prints, and if I have a little boy I think he will look positively fetching in pink.
I need to whine. All day I’ve been dreaming of sitting on the couch, and now that I finally am, I am super uncomfortable! My ribs are digging into my belly and it’s just ...ugh. And I love my couch. I’m sad
@cass06_07 I may have also been laugh crying through that entire thing. That was amazing.
@megpants209 we're still team green by choice. Have a couple of solid girls names but havinf a rough time with boys. Also, we have acquired quite a few white onesies. At this rate, we'll have a pretty bland baby! I do find it sad that every time I think I find a good neutral outfit, I turn it around and it has butt ruffles or bows or something else ridiculous on it.
Oh no @kayjay44! And you got the shot too, that doesn't bode well for the shot efficiency this flu season... Hope you're able to rest and have your H take care of the kids (and you)!
On the bright side, you got it now and not while heavily pregnant? Oh god, imagine having the flu during labor.
