  • @CecilB93 for me there’s something about melted cheese that makes my numbers go super high. Few times I made pizza on the bread I eat at home and it took my numbers super high. Not sure what it is. But I know that I should stay away from pizza.

  • @mamajudec2018 hoping all is well with you!!
  • Man! I had my 32-week appointment today and she said, "see you again in two weeks... then every week after that."

I forget who, but someone asked if GD meant adding on extra appointments (time :|). Mine didn't tell me when I was diagnosed - just that I would have an additional ultrasound. So... surprise! Ugh. Definitely didn't need these extra appointments during the day while I'm already feeling overwhelmed by work.
  • @hoosiermama-2 yea, I'm not looking forward to all the extra appointments on top of my regular OB, but it all starts next week for me!
    DS1 born 2/28/16

  • Just posted this in weekly appointments -
Now that I think of it, it is just one extra appointment. She did say because of GD when I asked if that was normal - but must've been referring to just that extra one.

I guess i was feeling a little dramatic earlier! Still one extra trip there. :D
  • @hoosiermama-2 @CecilB93 NST test started for me today. Twice a week from now until birth. And I’m having a 32w scan on Thurs

  • @CecilB93 tomorrow is gonna be a busy day! NST, 32w scan. And now they also want me to meet a high risk dr as I told them I haven’t gained weight in 4 weeks! I’m not too worried. As I was told before that the baby is like a parasite and they’d get all the food and nutrition they need.

  • @prudence9-2 really?? Have you not met with a high risk dr yet? The doctor that monitors my blood sugars is my high risk dr so that's just weird to me. And no one has been concerned about my weight, I lost 14 lbs and have gained 2-4 back depending on the day, so I haven't technically gained any weight this whole pregnancy. I'd think as long as baby is doing okay and you're not having any extra issues there'd be no concern. But good luck with everything tomorrow! I start my weekly scans next Wednesday, curious to see what they entail!

  • @prudence9-2 Oh gotcha. Next week I start weekly with my MFM (high risk) and every other week with my regular OB, I see regular OB weekly starting at 36 weeks. Basically I've seen my regular OB like I would for a normal/not high risk pregnancy and have had added appointments with my MFM (saw him monthly or sooner as needed until now), so double the appts of a "normal" pregnancy for me.

  • So just a little random thing...went for ice cream from Culver's today. It's definitely not the first time I've eaten sweets since being diagnosed, but this time I happened to notice the clock about 2 hours later (give or take maybe 10 mins max) and decided to test my sugars out of morbid curiosity. I was super shocked when it came back at 125! Technically still high, but I was expecting way worse! And I wasn't being "healthy" with it, I got a mini size (so still limiting carbs, but I have no idea how many carbs I ate...) chocolate ice cream, salted caramel, and pecans, and I really wasn't more active than normal, probably sat more than normal to be honest lol. Meanwhile, a tiny bowl of spaghetti with plenty of meat in it puts me in the 160s :expressionless:

  • That that sounds like my kind of experiment, @CecilB93!  Actually I read that (regular, sugary, full fat)  ice cream can be a decent option for countering high fasting numbers related to the dawn effect. My dietician even suggested it. Something about the combination of sugars and fats that keeps your body satisfied longer and prevents it from creating new sugar. I tried it out and the results have generally been good!
  • @barristerninja I've been getting that vibe from a GD group I'm in on FB, but I usually still do low carb ice cream at home (Breyer's or Halo Top). Which both of those have worked okay for my numbers, I usually do an extra snack (cheese and crackers) still right after I do my insulin and as I'm climbing into bed. But yea, I'm thrilled and feel way less guilt about the ice cream lol

  • @CecilB93 I don’t think I have the guts to test this. My numbers have been super high.

  • @prudence9-2 I wasn't even planning on testing my numbers afterwards. I usually just enjoy my treat and play oblivious since my dietician and doctor gave the okay to have sweets as long as I keep my portions within the limits. I just happened to notice the clock 2 hours later and decided to. With high numbers I wouldn't eat sweets like I do, but I'm generally able to keep things diet controlled (except my damn fasting number of course). Baby has been growing perfectly fine and has no other issues, if he had issues I'd stay away from the sweets completely of course!

@mamajudec2018 I hope you and the baby are doing well!

AFM... I met with a nutritionist on Monday as I haven’t been gaining weight and even lost some. They will allow me to increase my carb intake for lunch and dinner. And will just increase insulin doasges.

As a vegetarian being limited by carbs is not easy.

  • @prudence9-2 Being vegetarian would probably make things a lot trickier. I haven’t gained anything in around 6 weeks however, I think maybe my next appt might show a gain... my scale at home is not so reliable. The nutritionist asked if I felt like I was getting enough carbs but that’s such a tricky question. I do often feel pretty tired in the morning and then by 9 PM ( I work 3-11 pm) but I’m sure it’s due to being 32 weeks and not necessarily from having a lower carb intake than other pregnant women.
    AFM,
My growth scan today went sort of how I expected. Baby went from 99+ percentile to like 96-97 percentile so not a huge change, but I wasn’t really sure it would change a huge amount. I’m still not on any meds/insulin but I am expecting them to “recommend” them again more due to size of the baby and not my numbers. I’ve had a few over 130 ( 1 hr post) and one at 143 on the 17th but other than that they’ve been really good. I feel like even without GD this baby boy was determined to be bigger than his sister was at 9 lbs 2 oz. I am waiting to see now if at my next OB appt they let me pencil in an induction date at 39 weeks or if they’ll hold off again.
  • @prudence9-2 I hope the extra carbs help!!

Personally I've only just started seeing my scale start to increase, but still by ounces. I've gained back maybe 5-6 of the 14 lbs I lost in the beginning. Luckily baby is still growing perfectly fine even though the scale isn't showing it, so I'm not concerned! Weekly growth scans have been great and quick, MFM says we should still be right on track to just induce at 39 weeks and my hve to worry about sooner.

  • @prudence9-2 I'm a vegetarian too.  I normally eat pretty high carb and agree it's hard to find low carb options.  I'm glad they are allowing you to increase your carb intake.  Not gaining can be scary.

Have you had any growth scans to check on your baby's size?  Like @CecilB93 hopefully the baby is growing just fine even if you aren't putting on pounds.  I had a growth scan at my last appointment since my fundal height hadn't changed (and I also hadn't gained weight, but they didn't mention that as a motivating factor).  They said everything looked fine which was reassuring.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • Wow! I don't think I knew you are vegetarian, @prudence9-2! I imagine that would be super tricky to navigate.

I'm hanging in over here, but mentally ready to get the show on the road. :D Starting Monday I'll have weekly appointments with NST. This past Monday as we were wrapping up she said it and i was like, whaaa? :flushed:
Maybe it's common knowledge with GD but I had no idea to expect it, so will have to [try to] rearrange things because I can't have DD with me for an unknown amount of time!
My weight fluctuates 1-2 lbs a day and hasn't done anything other than that since I was diagnosed with GD & started carb counting roughly 6 weeks ago. As of Monday, I was measuring a week ahead. My ultrasound will be on 11/5!
  • Wow! I see all of us struggle with weight gain because of the strict diet!

@kadeephd I never realized how high carbs my diet was until I had GD!!

@hoosiermama-2 I have the NST twice weekly as well. Started 2 weeks ago.

@CecilB93 glad baby is growing fine! At the 32 w growth scan he was in the 45th percentile in weight.

@LostinUtopia working 3-11pm must be tough! And wow! Your baby is big! When did they find out you have GD? I was diagnosed at 10w 6d. So I’ve been on a strict diet for most of the pregnancy

  • @prudence9-2 @kadeephd I'm not vegetarian, but I thought DH and I were eating healthy before being GD, apparently not! Granted we weren't eating crap food 24/7, and most meals were still home cooked rather than takeout, but there were still a lot of changes I had to make to my diet. A big thing for me was reducing overall meal size for GD. I think less calories on top of managing carbs is why I've lost weight honestly.

    DS2 due 12/12/18

  • @CecilB93 problem with being a vegetarian and diabetic is that most of the protein that I eat is carbs (beans for example). And I had to reduce that amount so I’m hungry after meals. (I don’t eat tofu or the other fake meats)

  • @prudence9-2 Do you eat eggs?  I've been eating them basically daily at this point.  I've also been eating a lot of yogurt, though that does have carbs.  Lots of nuts too.  I have been able to eat quite a lot of carbs and keep my sugars in check luckily, there are just a few things I have to avoid (super sweet things, milk).

  • @kadeephd so actually I haven’t had eggs in the last 8 years. But 2.5 months ago I started eating eggs again. But I still don’t make them at home. So I have to go out for eggs. So maybe once a week for brunch.

I also eat lots of nuts and yogurt.

My nunbers are are not great. And I’m on 4 insulin shots a day!

Mamas, I am getting sooooo eager to know when LO will arrive! 😆😬😆

Started reading this study - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4900972/#!po=24.1935
...but I’m also watching football so I cannot focus. But Table 1 is interesting.

I have an ultrasound tomorrow and my second NST. Hoping to have even a little bit clearer picture of what could happen!
  • @hoosiermama-2 how many weeks are you? I’m 35w3d today. And I have scheduled induction at 39w. Unless LO decided to come back earlier

  • My induction is scheduled for 39 weeks as well! I’m 34 weeks tomorrow. The end to the diet and insulin injections is in sight!
  • 36 weeks tomorrow! She hasn't said anything about induction yet, just that if we did, 39 weeks would be the earliest.
