Re: October Arts and Crafts

  • So, I've made zero progress on anything, so I hope there's some other crafty people around who can carry this thread. I'm really hoping I can find some energy for crocheting or knitting or something really soon.

    2. I need to do an inventory of the handknits that I've got for this baby, but I would like to knit them a sweater. Or maybe I'll crochet one. I once found a blog in which a mom was knitting a sweater a week or something crazy so her kid would always have a handknit. I would love to do something like that.

    3. I remember the beautiful knit blanket gifted to Will and Kate when George was born. I would love to be that talented - though I don't think that one was actually handknit. I am pretty decent at making baby sweaters though, so I'd probably do that with a really high quality yarn.

  • I'm trying to crochet a car seat poncho for my son, but I've taken a break because I'm lazy. And possibly a little depressed from being so sick.

I don't really have anything I really want to make for the baby right now, but for my son I painted letters for his wall. I will likely do that again.

Oh gosh, I can't take that kind of pressure 😂
  • I love this thread idea, thanks @k2k2tog!  Also that gif is amazing.

    1. What are you working on this month? When I first read this I mistook it for October-themed crafts.  We just moved into a house that has been vacant for at least a year, so the giant front lawn is all super dead, aside from one giant Torrey Pine.  We will be capitalizing on that for Halloween, and I'm going to make a graveyard to go near the tree.  Unfortunately that isn't really baby-related.
    2. What are your goals for crafty things that you want to complete before baby is born?  We desperately need to repaint the interior of the house, and then I got the go-ahead from DH for a Harry Potter nursery!  I'd like to craft/put together the design/decor myself.  I'm also going to paint DD's bedroom, she kind of has a vintage Disney thing going right now so I want to make her some decor as well.  I'd love to learn to sew to hand-make them some things.
    3. GTKY: Harry and Megan are having their first baby and you have been commissioned to make something for them! What do you make?  Eeeep, my skills are not good yet.  I painted some cute kid-friendly paintings of animals in the past for my mom's therapy offices - maybe something like that?
DD born PPROM preemie at 36 weeks on 10/1/17 after over a year TI,
then 3 failed IUIs, and finally a successful IVF FET.

Due with #2 5/2/19 after HIO once in my FW,
because apparently that's how life works now. Team Blue!

  • 1. What are you working on this month? Ah! I’ve actually been crazy productive on my crafts the last couple of weeks. I made a new fall wreath, and almost finished all my signs/decor for our living room wall. Just need to frame one sign and they’re done! I’ll add pictures once it’s all up :) I’m working on a new fall porch sign next.
    2. What are your goals for crafty things that you want to complete before baby is born? Uh does decorating my house in general and having my husband finish making some furniture count? We make everything so it takes forever! For baby specifically we will probably just do a new name sign for the nursery.
    3. GTKY: Harry and Megan are having their first baby and you have been commissioned to make something for them! What do you make? Royal baby onesies!
  • I’m sewing my daughters’ costumes for Halloween. The 5 yo wants to be an ankylosaurus and the 2.5 yo would only specify blue so she’s going to be Mickey from the Sorcerer’s Apprentice bc he has a blue hat. Also going to update our fall wreath, hopefully before the Halloween one comes down. 😂 I have been very limited in terms of motivation lately.
I’ll make a wall name decoration for the baby to follow our tradition.
No idea what I would make for a royal baby.
  • @stringofhearts my 4yr old dinosaur obsessed kid and I would love to see that ankylosaurus costume when you're done!
  • oooh that was me @thebobloblaw those look AMAZING!

As for me, I finished the body of that green sweater I was working on, and I'm doing the sleeves TAAT now, just starting the decreases, so the end is in sight!

I am strictly not planning/buying any yarn for baby stuff until I know the sex, but I have saved a tonnnn of patterns on Rav.

  • 1. I'm not working on much at the moment, but I should try to get going on this scarf I barely started knitting a while ago. I'm new to knitting and I feel like I don't have the time to dedicate to practicing so I am starting over all the time.
    2. Well last year I wanted to try knitting some slippers for Christmas. It would be nice to do it this year, but that's not very realistic because they look hard to make and I am a slacker. I would probably like to at least finish the scarf by next May. Maybe try sewing before then too or crochet? I want to learn the craft skills but it's hard!
    3. I don't know how to make baby things.

@stringofhearts The image of a 2.5 yo wanting to be "blue" for Halloween made me laugh out loud! My 2yo doesn't understand what I mean when I ask, but she loves trains so that's what she's going to be.

@liliumstargazer13 I totally overthought it, I should just make her a blue crayon costume. 😂🤷‍♀️
    Eta train costume sounds awesome!
  • @stringofhearts you should make her sadness from inside out.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds that’s a good idea too. We haven’t seen that movie yet but I don’t think it would bother her to dress as a character she doesn’t know.
  • @stringofhearts it's super cute. But that was the first thing I thought of when you were talking of blue.
