I'm shocked and perplexed about the Nagini thing... not sure what to think about that one really. I like the Fantastic Beasts stuff, but I could honestly go for a whole additional book series in the universe.
I am obsessed with Harry Potter, Riverdale around most of all Outlander. PLEASE tell me there are other bumpies out there going through droughtlander with me... cant wait for Nov. 4th! I am going to Comic Con in NYC in October specifically for the Outlander Panel with my MIL!
Classical music nerd over here. I’ve played the violin for 20+ years and did orchestra all through school, from elementary to college. In high school, I spent summers at music camp. I love music and can’t wait for DD to (hopefully) show an interest in an instrument! I also have perfect pitch and can be a real brat about it, or I’ve been told
Reporting in as another Ravenclaw, since this thread is getting a little too Hufflepuff-y.
@DuchessOfCambridge I totally agree- I love her, too. She is privileged, but her life isn't easy. I wouldn't want to be her either! IMO the royals don't deserve her. She's smart, kind, and classy... I was definitely Team Kate during those dark "on a break" years. I'm sorry that your family history is hard to trace- the past can be painful to talk about for some relatives, and, as you say, records aren't always available. Wishing you success in finding the info you're looking for!
@ElleJDubs I've been a big fan of Outlander ever since I stole the books from my mom as a teenager. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess we're not alone in anticipating Nov. 4!
@ElleJDubs I still need to read book 9. It’s on my shelf! I haven’t watched since season 1 though. It’s on my watch list.
@brie_and_almonds agreed! I’d rather read books about it instead of Pottermore. I’m also waiting for the next book in her pen name Robert Galbraith series - it was just released last week!
What don't I nerd about.... So many things to list... Dr. Who, HP, anything Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel, Firefly....), Broadway musicals, Stranger Things, Baby Sitters Club, Sweet Valley (High, Twins, University), English monarchy - especially Henry VIII, Salem witch trials....
@psychobutthead OMG I forgot all about the fear street
series – I loved them so much!
@sleepy33 So so happy you posted your tattoo – I was wondering
what it was... not going to lie I was sort of picturing Lin Manual as Hamilton’s face somewhere
on you. Your actual one is awesome!
@brie_and_almonds Same! Loved loved loved the David Tennant
/ Matt Smith seasons but couldn’t get through one full season of Peter Capaldi…
but I’m really anal about seeing all episodes in order so I feel I have to get
back on the horse before I can watch Jodie Whittaker
@DuchessofCambridge I got super into ancestry.com during my
first maternity leave and was determined to find out how I was related to the English monarchy… spoiler alert – I’m not.
@k2k2tog I keep testing into in Slytherin too. Which at
first I was very much against but then realized that actually, that pretty much
sounds like me…So Slytherin representing over here.
@misskimsue I really might get that poster as well.
@secicc12 me too me too! I played violin through high school and clarinet through college. When we moved I insisted we get a piano (found one for free on FB) and I mess around on it now since I can read music but I want to take lessons one day. Maybe when my kids start I will too.
I most certainly do not have perfect pitch, though, so I’m way jealous.
@Pahialii I feel kind-of the same way. Like, for continuity's sake I need to at least know what happened in those seasons so that if some character shows back up I'm not all confused. I've been slowly watching them here and there, but some of it is so cringey. I know Doctor Who has always been cheesy, but some of it is just too much. I never watched any of the old seasons, so idk if Capaldi was more like them or what, but I'm ready for a change.

Make that three of us! I also played violin, starting when I was 12 and giving up on lessons when I was in grade 10 or so. I played oboe through high school in band. And I played piano, fairly seriously from age 7 to grade 12, and then went without a piano for 12 years through university and my first 7 years of marriage due to a lack of space in our tiny house. Now, I've somehow managed to acquire 2 pianos! I don't play much anymore, and definitely not seriously, but DD2 loves to pound on the keys so maybe one day she'll be our musician.
DD1: June 2014 - VBM4lyfe DD2: October 2016 DC3: coming May 2019
Not sure if this is a “nerd” thing but I LOVE reading young adult fiction. I’m not sure if it’s the teacher in me or what but The Hunger Games, Twilight, The Maze stunner series, The Unwind series! I just love a good YA novel!
@expandcontract I’m totally with you on that! I’d say math is definitely a different language but it’s not universal by any means. Especially when a vast majority of people can’t fluently compute anything past a typical 7th grade math class’ material... By the end of the year, it’s not my intention to make math a kid’s favorite subject, but it is my intention to make sure a child has all the tools they can developmentally grasp to solve any problem that comes their way. I just want kids to feel empowered by their knowledge instead of intimidated by numbers.
As a math teacher the only thing I ask is that every parent understands that math ability is NOT genetic. If you don’t like math...cool, but your kid is a clean slate and your impressions of subject matter and how you talk about it will play into their preconceptions before they even step foot into a classroom.
That's totally fair to ask from parents @maggieG183 ! I know because I struggled, I want to get my kids extra excited for math so they hopefully don't suffer like I did.
HP, Doctor Who, LOTR, Tim Burton, musical theater -especially Wicked!- ... Let's see... Jurassic Park, the Lego movies and games... oh, and Fruits Basket!
I have another one to add....spreadsheets. I like to play with data a little too much. I'm currently working on a spreadsheet for our BMB. But don't kill me if I don't finish it.
Huge HP nerd. All the things by Joss Whedon (except Firefly...sorry, true fans, I just couldn’t.) YA Lit. Musicals—currently listening to Hamilton on loop...I love that my tween can even get into it. Actually, my 12 year old and I have super similar nerd interests at the moment 😂
Fellow HP nerd (and another representative of Hufflepuff). I'm a big Gilmore Girls fan, and watch it over and over again. Music has always been a huge part of my life and I still sing, though I no longer play any instruments. Musicals are some of my favorite creations! I can't wait to get back to NYC and Broadway in a couple of weeks!
@expandandcontract I'm so jealous that you love spreadsheets. I wish I could.
@GeorgiaGirl1230 I love Gilmore Girls! Now I have to rewatch it again haha.
@k2k2tog I don’t know why I didn’t think about music when thinking of my nerdy hobbies! I play the flute and played piccolo in high school. Math and music nerd 😅
New mommy to be! EDD: 05/27/19 hoping for a girl!!!
I didn't see anyone say this so I think I'm immediately going to be the group weirdo 😂 but I'm a huge True Crime nerd. I'm obsessed with watching true crime documentaries, my favorite podcast is My Favorite Murder. I could tell you a ton of details about huge murder cases or mysteries. It's a tad unconventional 😂
Ravenclaw here! Huge Harry Potter fan, and book collector in general. I am a huge Music nerd. I am a Music Teacher and try to read literally as much as I can on teaching, human development and child development. I’m turning the nerd into a Master’s degree (while teaching.... while being pregnant....) so I haven’t had as much time to “nerd out” on other stuff.
I haves watched every single episode of Grey’s Anatomy and I am so excited the current season is out. I was super into Alias the TV show and I am a big fan of Jennifer Garner.
I love learning and reading.... does that make me a super nerd? 🤓 🤦🏻♀️
@guitarra1614 I’m working on my master’s too! I’ll be finishing it up next year when I have a 3yo and a 6mo to herd around too. 🙄 I keep thinking, “what did I get myself into?!” I’m getting my master’s in educational leadership (trying to get a master’s that will give me options should I want to ever move out of my classroom...although the politics of admin sound horrid), you?
Re: GTKY What do you nerd?

I was actually never into Harry Potter as a kid, but DH loves it, so I think I’m going to give it another try. He tells me I’m Ravenclaw haha.
I’m really a nerd for anime/manga though. I love One Piece the most (hence the username if you watch/read one piece.)
