Re: Grocery pickup
I totally forgot about the Walmart pickup!! I might have to set aside my ideals for the sake of easy foods - especially when baby is here. I hope we move back to a Kroger-area soon though, their cashiers were almost always wonderful, and I miss their organic store label.
@katy0990 Green beans - yeah. It took him a little while to even ask, and I was hesitant to tell him because I was afraid to sound like a snooty lady. I educate cashiers often about their own veggies - usually shallots and endives, but that was a first. I can only guess that he’s never seen them fresh…and that he doesn’t help in the kitchen. Who knows.
@PensiveCrayon Damn wonderful expensive Publix. I love the cakes, haven’t tried their subs, but haven’t been back since I was duped by their obstetric-friendly sushi.

@echo-charlietango Giggling at “obstetric-friendly sushi.” I love Kroger, but I guess there are none down here! One of my first jobs was as a bagger at Kroger.

@asun123 I'm sorry your birthday plans are not working out. And it stinks that your dad forgot your birthday!
I feel a little guilty complaining about this, but I'm going to do it anyway. We are having a "baby's coming" party next Sunday at my parents, which is a 5.5 hour drive from us (without traffic, and there is always traffic). My mom was kind of the driving force behind planning and originally we had talked about doing a party in between where most of my family members live and where most members of my husband's family members live, which would require my family to drive a little over an hour to get there and the same for his family. It would also only be about a 4 hour drive each way for us. We were leaning towards a public park. This seemed like a good plan, though we were a little worried about the weather and coordinating a party in a public place is in some ways more work. I checked the date with a bunch of my husband's family members and they were good with it. Well, my mom started emailing with his mom and they decided it would be easier to do it at my parent's house. I just gave in since I was not really planning and the park idea seemed to be stressing my mom out. Now though, a lot of his family can't make the trip since it's about 2.5 hours from where they live. It's too far for all his grandparents, and some other family members with little kids or other commitments are thinking of not coming. I don't blame them -- 5 hours in a car is a lot in one day. We are doing it Sunday because that worked better for a couple of people (one of whom may no longer be coming anyway), but it means we have to drive home later on Sunday. I'm honestly mostly just dreading the driving at this point and I feel bad that it worked out so that a good chunk of my husband's family can't make it. I know the planners had good intentions and I appreciate it, I'm just not feeling great about how it has turned out.
@kadeephd That's a legitimate bitch! I agree that the planners had good intentions, but things just kind of crumbled. Maybe try to have a small repeat event for YH's family?

I have a small bitch and an un-bitching of last week's bitch.
Small: Cars that include that dumb radar system when driving on cruise control. I did not ask for you to slow my car down, radar! How do I turn you off? I've only ever been able to minimize the distance it will let me get to the car in front of me before auto-slowing me down. Argh.
Un-bitch: I miraculously got the one row on the plane with an open seat next to me today. Hooray! Hooray! The tot was mostly well behaved, aside from throwing everything he didn't want in front of him in the aisle multiple times. I got to use the seat harness to keep him contained for half the flight, then I gave up the fight (he kept unbuckling his seatbelt) and let him unstrap. He bounced around for a little bit and then fell asleep on my lap for the last half hour of the flight. All in all, not bad. One more flight and then I'm DONE for the foreseeable future. I am not traveling alone with two kids. I. Am. Not.

@echo-charlietango We'll try to see them at Thanksgiving maybe? I'll be 38 weeks at that point though so I'm not sure how realistic or smart it would be to travel 2.5 hours to where they live. I would feel weird doing another one since half of his family is coming to this one. I'll just apologize about the change in location when I next see them in person.
@kadeephd I’m sorry the logistics turned into such a pain. I hope you enjoy the party, though! @PensiveCrayon Not on par with traveling alone, but when we landed back In Ohio today, H and I both said, “Yep, this was our last trip for awhile. We are not cut out for traveling with 2 kids”.
@katy0990@PensiveCrayon I might be crazy, but I kind of promised DD a trip next summer to her grandparents’ house. We weren’t really traveling this summer because I’m saving leave for maternity leave. DD is a pretty awesome traveler though, and I seem to recall traveling with an under-1 isn’t so bad, with baby-wearing, a stroller to hold everything, and the boob to pacify during landing and takeoff.
@Katzalia Yes, traveling with an under-one is easy peasy! It's all the gosh darned stuff that has me shaking in my shoes: car seats, sleeping spaces, etc. (And how the heck am I supposed to get my toddler to sleep in a non-crib once he outgrows the Pack 'n Play? Yikes.) Today as I was loading myself, my suitcase, and the stroller onto the sky train to get to the car I saw a family of four: young child was walking, another child was strapped to Mom, and Mom and Dad each had MASSIVE packs strapped to their back -- I'm assuming car seats based on the bags they were in. Plus somehow another pack was in there I think? Mom and Dad were also dragging suitcases. It made me exhausted just looking at them. I say road trips until these kids are old enough to drag their own stuff!

I would say under 8 months is easiest to travel. Once my daughter realized she *could* move she hasn’t stopped. I hope this baby is less like that lol @PensiveCrayon congrats on the successful trip! @kadeephd I’m sorry about your shower. I wouldn’t want to drive over 90 minutes at this point anyways. I hope lots of people can make it!
@Katzalia The sleep was the biggest issue. He never napped and it took 2-3 hours each night for him to fall asleep in the hotel room. @PensiveCrayon We rolled up towels to put under the fitted sheet, so he wouldn’t fall out.
Sorry to post and ghost, but I have to vent about this or I'll say something out loud...which would not be good.
I have this one coworker who ALWAYS finds something to complain about, but she does it in more of a statement rather than whining about it? Idk if that's a good descriptor word or not, more just a "can you believe this?" sort of complaint. But a lot of people in my department are moving desks, her included. So far, this new-to-her desk is 7 inches narrower, has less storage, and no groves for dividers in her top drawer. And she felt the need to complain about the last time she moved as well, how last time her desk orientation switched and was opposite of the one previous to that. It's always something though, and half the time it's user-error but I'm too nice of a person to say anything (and our department is small, so I'd rather not create more tension than there already is down here...we're a group of 9 ladies). Just had to get that off my chest...
@PensiveCrayon Oh man, don't get me started on the Commissary, I despise that place! It's only 10 minutes from me but it's always such a madhouse, the produce sucks, and everyone in there (the shoppers, not workers) are SO RUDE! I gave up on that place al long time ago. Is your kiddo handling speech therapy well even though he's shy? See my comment below about my thoughts about our situation right now! @mikinna That's so frustrating about your brother! I'm starting to wonder how effective the program DH is in right now is... it's more an early intervention program since he isn't 3 years old yet, so someone comes to the house and we both work with him... At first she was giving me lots of great suggestions and ways to help him, but now I feel like I spend the hour interacting with him and she just sits there documenting and not really contributing... I might pull him from it for a few months, put him in preschool, and re-evaluate when he turns 3 and see how he's doing.. I don't know, I'm just torn. @katy0990 I believe that's what would happen if he got accepted into their preschool program, which isn't something I'm totally comfortable with yet and the more I think about it, the more I think it might not be worth it just because it's free, ya know? @omnommer that is SO funny!! @winterplumeria WHAT?! He changed the odometer? Is that even legal? I would definitely report them... to who? *shrugs* But that is SO sketchy!! Having a reliable car in such a snowy state with a new baby is definitely a big deal, I really hope you guys can find something!!
@orangecrush29 Our commissary is actually pretty nice! And I like the selection of international food that they always have. But just way too far away. It was the same when we lived in Vegas -- our apartment was a half hour from base, so I just never got up there. (Also that one was open every day of the week. Whaaat!)
Re: speech -- he is doing well, I think. I can already tell that his joint attention is improving, and he mimics his therapist a lot more. For example, when we started going she would play him an iPad "game" that basically makes noises for him to imitate. He would stare at the iPad making a sound, not look at her when she repeated it, and not do anything afterward. Now he'll look up at her because he knows she's going to repeat it and then he'll try to make the sound himself.
I don't know what the situation is like where you're living, but we were referred to a private speech therapist in town via the EDIS office that tracks his development every two months. (And we were referred there by his pediatrician after he was showing multiple delays at his one-year appointment. We were told to keep an eye on his milestones because of all the stuff that happened at his birth, so I'm happy he's being followed regularly.) So he goes once a week to an outside place.

I have come to bitch! I haven’t been around much due to work. It feels like my husband and I have been trading off days at home for the past two weeks. He finally gets home tonight, hoping to be able to stay up to greet him!
My bitch, I have to meet with the broker for my real estate agent. The other broker is holding my deposit and threatening mediation. The seller is claiming they started repairs, but we never got receipts for them or notifications. If it was a few hundred bucks I would walk away to not have to deal with it but it’s 5K. My husband is acting cool and calm which is great but when it boils down to it neither side is backing down. I need a good lawyer, so I can have some peace of mind because I feel like no one is looking out for our interests. Unfortunately all of my friends are criminal defense lawyers or oil and gas attorneys, I would think real estate would be easy for them but most likely not worth their time and definitely not their expertise.
It super f’ed up. They told us they would not be making the repairs. We replied with all repairs to be made for a second time or no deal. They then dicked around for five days. We sent over a termination. They signed that they would fix everything an hour after we terminated. They claim they had until midnight that night and we are bound because they paid $100 dollars to have their furnace cleaned (which was on our reply to inspection). I guess there is a chance we could be in default but I don’t really see how since we never signed that we agreed to the terms. I have already thrown over a thousand dollars into their house to tell them what needs fixed plus appraisal (which is also wrong. Whole other level of b.s). I will damned if I lose over 6k on a house I do not own.
@LLynde5 ugh what a frustrating situation! I'm sorry you're dealing with such BS. Hopefully you find a great lawyer who makes the rest of the process easy and painless and gets you your money back!
They signed that they would fix everything an hour after we terminated. They claim they had until midnight...
What a huge pain in the ass. I would totally get copies of whatever made them think that they had more time, and consult a lawyer...especially if the seller's broker has your $5K held hostage. I agree that some mediation is needed, purely to cover your ass. Screw the seller and their wishy washy ways (or their realtor - it's hard to nail down where the communication break downs are happening).
My only bitch right now is that food replicators (á la Star Trek) don't exist. For dinner I only want a few bites of all of the fast food, and I don't want to go out in the rain for my own fast food. Whine whine whine.

@echo-charlietango I whined about being hungry and not wanting to cook for 30 minutes tonight.
My bitch is the Kavanaugh hearing. I was particularly disgusted listening to some senator emphasize that these accusations were from his TEENAGE years with the implication that this makes them less serious or important. If the guy had murdered someone when he was a teen would it matter?
ETA: Sorry if this is inappropriately political. It's been eating away at me all day.
@katy0990 I have everything in writing and all email between both realtors. I have all of my text with my realtor with screen shots my realtor took of the other realtors comments.
I was so sick about everything all day but managed to finsih my two day late deadline. My boss wasn’t even mad about it soooo I guess I still have a job. Lol. I also managed to get DD fed and to gymnastics on time (huge win for me), as well as a trip to the grocery story after the gym. And I managed to get everything together and ready for snack Captain tomorrow and DD to sleep! Now I just wait for my hubby to get home and hopefully not think of this BS until Monday at noon for our meeting:/
@kadeephd The teenager thing really gets me too. Women who are sexually assaulted when they’re teenagers pay the price for the rest of their lives. If it screws this guy over from not getting to be one of the highest judges in the country after his long and lucrative career...I don’t care? It’s the Brock Turner syndrome all over again. How can we ruin this man’s “life” over ONE mistake??? ALL the eye rolls.
@LLynde5 That is super frustrating. My one piece of advice would be if you get a lawyer get a real estate attorney. My experience with attorneys tells me that even if a type of law seems easy the experts know the law inside and out and you could be at a disadvantage if your attorney doesn’t know it as well.
@rosebud332 maybe I didn’t write that clear. But that is exactly what I meant. I wish I had someone I personally knew that specializes in Real Estate. I agree I wouldn’t hire a defense lawyer for a tax problem or vice versa.
*Pounder why and how I know so many criminals defense lawyers.
I need to rant about my morning! Granted, all of this is total first world problems and last night I was rambling on like a crazy hormonal person that how happy and lucky I feel, so clearly I will get over this quickly. Anyway, our Internet service is pretty sucky, we don’t have cable, so we use Amazon fire sticks and we get kicked off several times a day and have to reboot it. The problem is, I cannot guarantee the problem will occur if a service technician comes out and I don’t want to pay to have someone come out and tell me there isn’t a problem, so typically we deal with it. Well, the other night my H started messing with the router and my desktop computer. I am not sure what the heck he did, but I can no longer access the Internet from my computer. So, we were both up until midnight trying to mess with it and of course spectrum is blaming the computer and has no interest in helping. So, before bed I went ahead and reset my computer back to factory settings, in the hopes that that would fix the problem. Well, this morning, I realized that of course, the problem is not fixed. So, I tried to entertain my two-year-old, while on hold and talking to people from multiple countries about my computer, which was a blast. They came to the conclusion that I need to buy a wireless Internet adapter to plug and that should work. At this point, I decided to start some oatmeal for breakfast for my son and I. Well, he was quietly reading some books, so I decided to take that as my opportunity to shower quickly and completely forgot about the oatmeal, which ended up burnt. Then, I walked into our bedroom to find the fan that I had already turned off was still on. Apparently, something is wrong with the fan itself and not just the remote because I can’t use the pull strings to work the fan or the light. So, it’s barely 10 am and I have already eaten 3 of the cookies I made for the neighbors who watched our dogs while we were on vacation (dogs were a nightmare and had diarrhea multiple times in the house, so I feel really guilty). I’m hoping this stupid wireless card fixes my computer, so I can relax during nap time, instead of fighting with it.
