I prefer carpet to hardwood. This is especially blasphemous as I am in real estate, specifically new construction, and hardwood/vinyl flooring is like, the "thing". Yes, I am aware of how gross carpet gets, and how hard it is to deep clean. With all that said, it is so much more comfortable! My feet always feel dirty and cold on wood floors. Plus the dirt/dust is so much more obvious on bare flooring. I'm so controversial, haha.
@Hollyyyyy I'm a carpet fan, too!!!! I feel like it's so much cozier! I can sit on the floor and play with my son and DS2 can roll around, etc..... It we had older kids, I may end up with wood, but for now, I REALLY enjoy our carpet!
@Hollyyyyy add me to those oddballs who prefer carpet to hardwood as well. I like the look of hardwood, but carpet is so much more forgiving. It hides the dog hair so much better! LOL also, much cosier as every one everyone has pointed out. Definitely wish there was carpet throughout this house for baby, as it would be softer for her to crawl around on and the knees of her clothes didn't get nearly as dirty!
@Hollyyyyy I agree! I like the look of hardwoods, but they are not as cozy. Also, they scare me when my toddler tries to run across them and slides. We actually Carpeted over the hardwood’s that were in our bedrooms and our family room. Plus like @scaredunprepared said, carpet hides the dog hair. Our dogs are only on the main floor of our home a handful of times each week and those hardwood still need to be vacuumed almost every day.
I’m split on carpet v hardwood. I love hardwood in our living spaces and rugs over it in the living room and dining space. But I refuse to have hardwood in bedrooms. They need carpet for comfort!
@Hollyyyyy Haha, this is my level of wild no need for police involvement, no raised voices, etcetera. I like peace. @hkom I am with you!
HARDWOOD FLOORS FOR LYFE. AND TILES. TILES ARE COOL.
Let it also be known that we do have large rugs for the living room and dining room. The big ones are expensive, but gosh, they're so worth it. I do vacuum often, and I don't mind it since we moved into a shoebox (and I bought a new vacuum).

@echo-charlietango I put a rug on top of the carpet in the baby's room. Double softness, and also I'm hoping it will prevent stainage when she inevitably poops or colors on the floor in there...Is that carpet overload? Haha.
Solid hardwood > tile > engineered hardwood > carpet or laminate flooring > vinyl/linoleum. I used to sell flooring for a living so I feel like I'm kind of the expert here and therefore my opinion is definitive and uncontestably correct.
#teamhardwoods our new house has wood in the downstairs and carpet upstairs. H wants to rip up everything and refinish the original underneath. I told him we can let kids ruin the floors that are there, then we can redo them and make them nice later. But h also has a severe dust mite allergy, so carpet is really not good for that.
@runrinserepeat@Hollyyyyy When you two get tired of Roomba's random patterns, check out Neato - it's my favorite robot vacuum

@runrinserepeat@Hollyyyyy we ALSO have a roomba! Definitely wouldn't be able to keep the floors clean without it. But, like @echo-charlietango, my preference was for the Neato. My mom bought us the Roomba instead as a housewarming gift, so I didn't really get a choice. BUT if I had, it would have been the Neato (it was even on my baby registry!)
Hard-woods, hard-woods (in my best chanting voice). I just bought new tile that looks like hardwood!! I think it’s so funny that some prefer carpet for dogs. I am the complete opposite. I think it’s so much easier to swifter around the edges of the hardwoods. In our house all the hair goes to the edge on its own except under the dinning room table. We do have carpet in our bedrooms but it’s the bane of my mother’s existence because cream carpet vs black dog. If she sees one hair she is vacuuming our bedrooms. We obviously don’t have boundaries in our relationship. It’s annoys the hell out of me but 1. I cant stop her and 2. At the end of the day it isn’t helpful!
Sometimes, I want to come in here and say something really dramatic, just to see if the discussion blows up. But, I can’t bring myself to say something as ridiculous as vaccines are stupid or something equally flame worthy.
@katy0990 I don't think anyone would believe you at this point! lol My last bmb was so tame too, we never had any good UO or discussions. Described ourselves as rainbows and butterflies
I like hardwood for the bedroom with a rug in it, and carpet for the living room. I have a laundry room/mud room with cheap ass thin carpet (on purpose) but I think I'd like a nice tile in there so it's easy to sweep up the dirt/grass/whatever than vacuum. But I guess my preference for cleaning won't matter soon because MY CLEANING LADY STARTS IN A FEW WEEKS
@Jens_Hoes just a piece of unsolicited advice, if you do tile your mudroom, choose a darker grout. We tiled ours a few years ago and did a light gray grout which is beautiful right after it’s cleaned, but looks disgusting anytime it is muddy. It drives me nuts!
My uo is I would rather have my child be more assertive and have a mind of his own than the other way. The other day my friend had said that teaching kindness is the most important thing to her and I disagreed. Dont get me wrong, kindness is important, but so are many other attributes. I dont want him to be a bully by any means but I want him to be able to stick up for himself and others. Her daughter's go to is always to cry about things. If another child takes a chip off my son's plate I want him to say, hey that's not cool, that's my chip. Not just sit there and cry about it until a mom steps in.
Re: UO Thursday! 9/27
That's all I've got, sorry. I'll try to think of a UO.
