I love Madeline, DH hates it. There goes yet another name I like. If we have a girl, she’ll probably end up being nameless until she’s born at this rate. For some reason DH is super into flowers for names. He really likes Daisy in particular. I think it’s cute, but our last name startes with D and I’m not sure about double letters.
I really like Claire too but I love the actress' real name Caitriona more, unfortunately it's a little too close to my full name and I'm not sure I'm ready for that lol.. Bf is pretty convinced it's going to be a boy, but my brother is convinced it's a girl.. idk. Girls names are easier for me. It's boy names where I'm struggling to find something Bf likes. He wants Ben, but I think not. It's handsome, just way too popular, and he says Shepherd is "pretty dope" but I don't know that I love love it. I like Ruairi, but he says he hates it and he isn't sold on Remy or Malachai, and those were previously the only names in the running.
And lol on the votes for Khal Drogo, I would do Khal in a heartbeat, but meanings of names are super important to me and I don't know how I would live with having to tell Khal his name isn't a name at all, just a tv character... if we have more babies with names with meanings, I feel it would be unfair. I was the only one in my family without a bible name and I always felt badly that I stuck out. That's why I can't use Khaleesi as much as I love it.. GOT for a birth legacy isn't my style
@kaleesi93 ummm... do you have a brother you really really like? Of course I had to look up if Khal had a meaning (because, I'm sorry, it's such a cool name) and apparently (per google) it means uncle in Arabic.
@roo1381 lol I do have one I'm super close with, his name is Micah hence Malachai... Bf says he likes Cal, he just doesn't like Khal.. You found out more than me, google left me with nothing! I wish I could find a Gaelic name we like.. my family is old Scottish and his is Irish and I think it would be so cool...
DD is named Isla Rose (I saw there's another Isla in here! Ours is pronounced the Scottish way, "Eye-lah"). My mom hated the name because it's hard to pronounce, and a lot of people do get it wrong, but we love it and it fits her. Our last name is long, so the short first name works well.
We aren't sure for girl names. I mentioned Juliet Anne and Bridgette Bea to DH. Ann is both my and my mom's middle name, and Beatrice is my mom's name.
For boys, we have a different sort of issue. DH wants the middle name to be after his dad, Daniel. We both love my dad's first name, Jack. But... then the kid's name is Jack Daniel and I'm just not sure if that's awful or not. We also love the name Brendan. My mom is vocal about loving the name Jack and not so much Brendan, because "all the rogues on TV are named Jack." Totally serious.
DD born PPROM preemie at 36 weeks on 10/1/17 after over a year TI, then 3 failed IUIs, and finally a successful IVF FET.
Due with #2 5/2/19 after HIO once in my FW, because apparently that's how life works now. Team Blue!
@mrsdee15 I usually try to stay out of people’s name decision because it’s your choice and screw everyone else’s opinion! ...that being said, I would definitely be hesitant about Jack Daniel. Both names are great individually, but there will be endless jokes if you put them together :-/
What if you did Jackson Daniel? You could call him Jack and the reference wouldn’t be as obvious.
@mrsdee15 looove both names individually. But sadly, I'd have to agree with @wearegroot that it's maybe subjecting your child to endless name-related jokes.... although maybe not til adulthood
@wearegroot and @2babes3angels Thank you both for saying that, that's exactly what I was worrying about when we first started talking about it. Jackson Daniel is a good idea, I'll run that by DH. But, honestly my feeling is to stay away from Jack altogether. My mom can just be mad about another one of our names (she was upset Isla wasn't named Emma). Definitely do not want our LO to be subjected to any teasing.
@chelseay416 Chris Pratt and Anna Farris' son is also Jack Daniel, so that made me feel like maaaayyyybe it'd be okay? But still, no, probably not.

If it is a boy, James Walker IV and my favorite girl names currently are Finley (hubby says no), Leighton Wren, Ashlyn, Sydney, Lucy, Ellery/Elle/Ellie, and Chloe.
@mrsdee15 your issue is exactly why we didn't tell anyone DD name until she was born and it was a done deal. I had no patience to hear opinions. You could kindly tell your mom that once the baby is born, you'll make a decision, but until then, you and DH will figure out the name.
I love the names Jack and Daniel. I like them together and I even like Jackson Daniel. You name your baby what YOU want to name him and everyone else can deal with it.
@mrstmoose I think you're exactly right about opinions on names - keeping it a secret sounds divine after what we went through with DD.
@lyse01 That's a great one - Jonathan is on our list also, and you just reminded me that one of my favorite names is Henry, nn Harry. Thank you for that suggestion!

@jasmine5904 Fiala is just the prettiest thing ever! I've never heard it till now but I love it! @heyyitsbriana so glad to see another list with Wren in it! I tossed around Wren-Esmée... not trying to copy Twilight at all, it just happened..
DH’s last name is Keyes and we love thinking about doing a play on words and naming a boy Allan Keyes or Rusty Keyes! (I honestly do love the name Russell nn Rusty). Girls names are harder, but I’m liking Rosemary these days...
DD was easy. we knew we wanted a CJ no matter what, so it was either Christopher James or Carol Jane). We cant have another CJ so our boy name is out.
Leaning heavily toward Alma Sue for a girl. (Alma after DH’s Grandma and SuE after my mom).
For a bou we've discussed james Patrick. I love James but I don’t love the possessive. “Where are james’ shoes?” Jameses.. so now I’m thinking of bringing up Rónán (without the accents) to DH, as a tribute to my dad Ronald. Or maybe Patrick James? Or James nn Jay?
@lovelybabybumpz my son's name is Hanz. I HATE the possessive and if I need to talk about his shoes I inevitably refer to him as "Hanzy". I thought I was the only one this crazy!
@lyse01 I like Jay and Jamie! They totally solve my crazy problem
@roo1381 haha. That's so funny. I don't even know what made me think of it. It's one of those things that you usually don't even think of until well after they're born. And I'm sure most normal people are ok with it
DD is Freya; we want something that sounds old-fashioned, but probably also more common or more sweet to lean on the cute-British side of DD's name more and the Nordic-warrior-goddess side less. (We like those connotations, too, of course, but we already have a really unusual short last name that risks making her sound like a comic book heroine; having two would be over the top for sure.)
Girl: Marian (Great taste, @lizziealyssa! It was our #2 for DD.) Vivian/en/anne/enne, nn Vivi Jane (I think Freya & Jane is cute!) ...and DH is obsessed with Lettice, nn Lettie. I think it's really pretty but just can't handle the vegetable thing and also think it's a bit much with Freya. ...I really like Isla (Hello, great minds think alike!), but also think it's a bit much with Freya? The names are really similar insofar as they are both Top 20 in the UK and confusing to Americans.
Boy: Peter (DH is campaigning hard for this family name, but I'm not a fan!) ... basically we avoid discussing boy names. I kinda like Owen, Colm, Finn, Malcolm, Rufus, and other things that would probably be way too much with Freya, but none of them seem quite right. I also like Edward and Edmund, but not for babies/little boys, and hate the nickname "Ed." ...Can I get some ideas for stately Anglo or Celtic names? I find boy names really hard!
@TheSouffleGirl I love Freya, we considered it for DD but couldn’t come up with a good nickname which is something we wanted. Also I felt like I would have a hard time finding names that went with it for siblings so I get you on that. I keep overthinking the names we have picked out for this one and if they go well enough with Sylvia (DD).

I’m starting to fall out of love with the boy name we agreed on ( Roman). For some reason it just doesn’t feel right. I’m now head over heels for the name DH absolutely HATES. Reeve just sounds better to me. When I fell in love with our daughters name, there was no talking me out of it. So now I’m crossing my fingers that we are having another girl because I know my hormones are going to make me extra stubborn on my name preferences.
I’m late to the party, but figured I would join in! DH and I still want our boy name we had picked out last time - Calvin. If we have another girl we both like Aspen as it goes well with DD’s name. DH has many other girl names he likes though, so we will see what happens. His current favorite besides Aspen is Cassidy, but I think that’s a mouthful. Lol
on the topic of names that are confusing for Americans, I hate that has to even be a consideration, why can't more people ASK how to pronounce a name instead of being dumb about it? It's not embarrassing imho and I've always preferred when people ask me how to pronounce my names instead of botching them and then making dumb jokes about it. My first name is German, my middle name is proper French and my last name is Scottish and I've never met a foreigner who is anything but gracious about them..
I LOVED the name Rae for a girl...but then my mom reminded me that our last name rhymes with Rae, and that may sound pretty silly. Sigh, how did I not think of that??
@jamieprey, blame pregnancy hormones! I almost never say name choices aloud with our last name since it's such a mouthful... I should probably start to make sure they sound okay!
Why does picking girls names have to be so difficult?! Argh. I've started leaning away from my original favorites. Now my list looks more like this...
...you can probably tell I like ethereal/unique names. Our DS has a unique name and I want our second to also have something special. It was easy with his name, we picked it out and both agreed within a few days of looking at names. This time my DH is not helping at all.
I really like the idea of using one of my favorite shorter names (Wren, Sage, Reyn) as a middle name so I get to use two names off my list, but DH and I already agreed we would use Logan for a middle name regardless of gender to honor his best friend. I also like the idea of a longer first name that can have a cute nickname (DS is just one syllable).
Sigh. Any suggestions? With all this trouble I'm having with a girls name, it'll end up being my luck we'll have a boy and it won't matter anyway .
@kangstadt I know an Aurora (Rory) and Avalon (Lonny), both of which give me the same vibe.
I personally would stick to recognizably female names with a middle name of Logan (for ease of identification at some point), and really like Celeste for that.
Titania is queen of the fairies, Tatiana may give the same impression.
Celine?
Gwenivere/Guinevere give the nn of Gwen, which rhymes with your other favorites. Also Arthurian legends
