H was telling his mother the names we like and she has been making fun of them for days now. Like every day she has another smart ass remark "I hope that you have money for toddler karate because he's going to be made fun of". THIS is why you don't tell people possible names before the baby is born.

@mermaidca, ugh, yes! My sister got made fun of for not telling her name choices, but I totally agree. Our family has too many opinions they wouldn't keep to themselves. I also plan on keeping our name options a secret just because I've already asked my best friend for her opinion and she hates a name I love. Sigh.
@mermaidca that is exactly why we stopped sharing name ideas with my first pregnancy. When we were considering names for our son, we told MIL a possibility was Christopher. Fucking Christopher. And she made this face like she couldn't understand how we could possibly consider that name. From that point on, we didn't suggest names. With that being said, we ended up picking Weston. Once we share that this baby is a boy with friends and family, we're just telling them that his name will be Easton anytime someone asks in order to avoid the questions or remarks
@mermaidca we didn’t tell anyone the name we picked for our son! Instead we told people the gender and first letter, E. We didn’t want anyone’s opinions about a name we loved. Our friends actually started a betting pool and, shockingly, TWO of them guessed correctly!! Our son has a relatively uncommon name. I couldn’t believe anyone, much less 2 ppl, got it right. It was really fun and funny.
We always joked with ppl that he was going to be Deuteronomy, aka little Deut for short. Lol
DD is Isla Quinn. We like Jonah for a boy. I have no idea what I like for a girl name. I like Elise which is my middle name. Picking a girl name is a struggle.

@mermaidca oh no I absolutely despise MILs that act like that. Ugh. I know a few people who drive themselves nuts trying to pick names that won't get made fun of, but I think the reality is that everybody gets made fun of. If someone wants to bully it really won't matter what the name is. Some are easier than others, but I personally got called all sorts of ugly names growing up that had nothing to do with my actual name. I'm sorry people can't be supportive of you but you're allowed to like what you want. Her days of naming kiddos what she wants are over and done.
@kaleesi93, totally agree, kids will get bullied regardless of name. And parents do have some say in nicknames... my nephew's name is Oliver, and they absolutely hate Oli or any other nickname, so they never call him anything but Oliver and nobody else does either. Of course, some people will make nicknames regardless of parents wishes, haha. My nieces called my DS BLT for awhile due to his initials and an inside joke.
We got plenty of remarks with our son's name at first, and it was suuucchhh a headache. In the end we chose the name we loved, regardless of anyone else's thoughts. Our son is Wolfgang, Wolf or Wolfie for short, and we're still so happy we chose this name for him. I've honestly received more positive than negative feedback, even though I know it's not for everyone (and that's fine with me!)
That said, it's hard to come up with a comparable name if our next babe is a boy. Front runner for girl is Olive, not sure of a middle name yet.

@daniellel0322 I saw you are looking for Hebrew names... Tziporah is my favorite.... Zippy for short
@dapoint23 thanks for the help! I was actually offering to help someone too, as we have our names super narrowed down. Mainly because we can only use a couple letters (in terms of naming after loved ones) ☺️
There are some really great names in this thread! I'm a teacher, so it's hard to pick a name that I don't already associate with a student. With my first, exH and I went with a name we had never heard of and it ended up being wildly popular that year (think the '04, boy names ending with -den craze). This time around I am hoping to avoid that. H and I both lean towards naming this little bear for a family member, so it will probably be one of our mothers or grandmothers if it is a girl and named after H (William) if it is a boy.
@ShallowSeas Isla is at the very top of my favorite names list, I think it’s so beautiful!!!
Also love Thea and Darcy for girls. Jett and Jones for boys. I’m undecided as to whether I want to do middle names at all... I don’t have one and our last name is forever long
@b9315 if your kid doesn’t have a middle name, how will they know when they’re in trouble? You always know you’re in trouble when your mom says all your names.
@b9315 if your kid doesn’t have a middle name, how will they know when they’re in trouble? You always know you’re in trouble when your mom says all your names.
Lol, that's totally true.
My kid has 2 levels of trouble since we always call her by her nickname. 1st level is her actual name 2nd level is first and middle If i ever get to including the last name it'll probably mean she's truly grounded till she's forty.
Also what do put on forms that ask for a middle name/intial @b9315 do you leave it blank? Have you had problems with them coming up or being told it's incomplete without it? I never considered the possibility of not having a middle name.

@cabearit I have the same problem with names, I coach swimming and do swim lessons so some names a tainted by the naughty kids lol My biggest problem is DHs family is so large and all of them live in town. Like there’s not just first cousins, but also second third and fourth and everyone has several kids so sometimes I feel like all the good names are taken I usually start narrowing down after we find out the sex. With DD it was always Lillian, DS took longer to settle on Camden. But we don’t tell anyone before the birth because a)I hate their opinions, b) I’ve had names stolen
I think I’ve jumped off the Olivia train. I loooove Isla Abigail. Isla pronounced the Spanish way (ees-la). DH really doesn’t like it. He likes the name Elizabeth, which 1) doesn’t flow well with our last name and 2) it’s our cat’s middle name!! I cannot name my baby after my cat.
@booksandlace i LOVE violet. That's such a pretty name - but I always forget it exists lol.
We've already decided the next two boy names (if we have two more)... next in line is Colt Bryan.
Girls are harder. When we were throwing around names during my first pregnancy before we knew it was a boy, we were thinking Aspen or Autumn for a first name and Bell for the middle (family name). I still really like Autumn Bell, but we'll see how DH feels this time. He still refuses to even acknowledge the possibility that this might be a girl.
@samott Wolfgang was on our short list with ds. We named him Hanz but if this one is another boy it's back in the running. I studied in Copenhagen, DK in college and have always loved Tivoli for a baby girl. (Though neither of my daughters is named that, apparently it's just a thought for me).
@thatbaintforbetty I’ve never really had an issue with that.. I just leave it blank. I actually know quite a few people with no middle name... so I’m not sure what we will end up doing.
I've already got Samantha , Joseph, Benjamin and Elizabeth. All our names so far have been biblical . DH suggested the name Isaac if it's another boy. Still thinking of girl names though.
I have loved the name violet (my grandmothers name) since I was in high school— I literally remember being mad when Ben afleck and Jennifer garner named their daughter violet (12 years ago) because they stole my baby girl name! Haha... the other day I looked on a baby name website and they projected violet to be the 4th most popular name next year!!!! It was #48 in 2017. I also saw my son’s name,Theodore, is projected to be #4 and it was not that popular 2.5 years ago! I know it shouldn’t matter that much since it’s a gorgeous name and family but what the heck! I love classic names that you don’t hear often and I thought that’s what I was doing with Theo and violet but I guess they will be classic common names now!
@jrm_14 Do you see that cousin often? Because my cousin, who I only see at family weddings and funerals, has a son Robert, and I’m totally naming this kid Robert (nn Bobby) after FIL if a boy. I wouldn’t do that if it were a cousin I saw often though.
@jrm_14 Violeta is super pretty too! I have a hard time using names that other people have used too— even if I don’t see them often. I also just saw that Viola means violet so maybe we could still honor my grandmother while picking something a little less common with that? Honestly not sure if I like it as much as violet though— gotta sit with it for a bit
@lyse01 We are them fairly regularly (most holidays+weddings+funerals). Close enough for it to be awkward.
MH & I will use the letter J for a first name. We have agreed on a girl’s name & are at a standoff on boys (bc why not make this an issue at almost 6 weeks?! ). I like classic×sless, yet meaningful names. MH’s front runner is Jaden. I’m not a huge fan. Agreeded no’s include: James, Jensen, Josiah, Jason. Suggestions?
So I hadn't said my names yet. Mostly cuz I'm nervous to because we had a loss in may. But I'm going to be positive and I had a sign from the universe yesterday so
If it's a girl its Charlotte Ray or Audrey Lain. Boy is Oliver Alan, Maxwell Alan or Montague (will go by Monty or Montag like from the book farhenight 451).
Our top girls name is Charlotte Elizabeth. I've always wanted a little girl to call Charlie
Girl name: Camilla (undecided saint name) Boy names are tough as we already have 2 DS. Both have Italian first names and constantly mispronounced Italian last name so we’d like to keep with the theme.
