Sept 2018 IUI

Hello. I'd like to start this thread for those having IUIs this September. I was actually gearing for my IVF #3 but then my lovely eggs decided not to show up and now I got only one follie growing. So, dr, DH and I decided to have it converted to IUI this month. I'll have it on 9/8 (the day I turn 40! Great!) Anyway, pls feel free to join me here

  • Hello friends! @prudence9-2 and @northbeach3.
I don't feel so down about the turn of events, I was also feeling meh even at the beginning of the cycle. I was kind of thankful that it did get converted. I'll go hang at the Sept FET board too, I'm missing lots of updates recently.
  • Hello! Just did my second IUI today! just joining in on this thread!
  • Good luck ladies! Will be doing IUI #3 this month. Keep me updated. Are you ladies doing injectables, clomid, or natural IUIs?
  • Good morning ladies!

I love that this board was created :) I just had my first IUI yesterday. I did Femara CD5-9; trigger shot on CD13; and IUI morning of CD15. Really hoping we didn't do the IUI after ovulation, but I've heard the trigger shot causes ovulation to occur pretty spot on.. there's too much to obsess over. What about you ladies?

@tinjp78 I hope your IUI went well and happy belated birthday!

  • I did IUI #3 on Friday the 7th. We had a really bad sperm sample on IUI #2, but awesome sample this time! DH stayed super hydrated and I made him eat a bunch of asparagus and dark chocolate (because maybe that weird internet post I read on some sketchy site was right, haha). I am extremely anxious to find out if it worked this time. Taking Prometrium and the indigestion makes the days feel even longer.
  • @LauraJon2015 Looks like you and I will find out around the same time! What were your DHs post wash sperm sample numbers? If asparagus and dark chocolate are supposed to help I’m going to sneak those in my DHs diet haha.
  • Hey @tinjp78 How did your iui go?

  • Oh hello!!! I'm sorry I was MIA for a while, I live here in Hokkaido, Japan and we had a massive M6.2 earthquake and it knocked out the electricity of the entire island (5.5million residents). Our lifeline was cut off for almost 3 days, but things are getting back to normal bit by bit. I got my IUI #4 on Sept 8. Thanks for checking in @suzycupcake ! How are you doing?

@gennywithag Welcome and congrats on the IUI

Hello @bobella22 I did estrogen priming, clomid and trigger. I was supposed to do IVF but got converted to IUI.

@crookshanks10 Thanks for your greeting and congrats on your first IUI.

@LauraJon2015  That asparagus and dark chocolate trick is interesting. As for my DH, he added tomato juice to his diet and eats more dark chocolates recently. Oh, he drinks a shot of whisky before sleeping, the night before our IUI, whenever he does this, his sperm sample seems better than when he doesn't.

Oh my goodness @tinjp78 I didn't hear about the quake. How scary! So glad that you are okay and that IUI happened. Fx for you dear! I am doing good. Waiting for af to arrive so I can start an ER cycle. Missed you!! <3

ETA :D at your husband's whisky sample. I just sent a text to mine to tell him he should do the same :D

  • @tinjp78 EEK! I think earthquakes sound SO scary! I'm glad you're okay and that you were able to get your IUI!
I'm with @suzycupcake does whiskey help sperm samples?! My DH had 7.5mil and even though my clinic said they like anything over 3mil, I still feel like it's low!
  • Hey tinjp, crookshanks, Laurajon, gennywithag!!! Hope you are all doing well. Hoping your 2ww is not dragging too much. I just restarted clomid yesterday and will be doing iui in a little less than 2 weeks. My dr. Wants me to come back next week and do a SHG to make sure my uterus has no fibroids or scar tissue. Have any of you had this test done? Ive done the hsg before and that was pretty painful & hoping this test isnt as bad .Very nervous and hoping all is clear.
  • Hey @bobella22 It has been awhile since you posted so thought I'd chime in even though I'm doing IVF. I've had both tests. For me personally, SHG was much less painful. Much less and I think because it doesn't take nearly as much time as the HSG. It felt like heavy cramping but for like 1/8th of the amount of time. I hope your test comes back clear.

  • Thanks suzucupcake.... def nervous and hoping that it wont interfere with me doing my IUI this month. How are the rest of you ladies feeling?
  • Hey ladies. I’m new here! I had my second iui on September 8th. First iui was unsuccessful with 3 follicles around 18. This time I had 4 follicles from 20-22 and another 3 follicles around 18. I’m really shocked my RE let me trigger and iui with 7 follicles. My estradiol level was like 1400! And especially since my hubs has a very high count. She said the three smaller ones were deeper and not likely to release but still makes me crazy nervous. Trying not to get my hopes up but anxious too. Can test on the 22nd and it can’t come soon enough! Prayers for all of you ladies for success this cycle!!

@bobella22 Nah, it won't interfere with your ability to do IUI :) The only thing that might prevent doing IUI is if your RE finds something on the SHG that she/he needs to fix first. There's probably nothing to be concerned about since SHG is a routine test with fertility treatment. Easier said than done right? ;)

  • Hi- I had an IUI done on Sept 7 and 8. Had one follie measuring 30mm after taking Femara CD 3-7, so not sure if that's a good thing? Doctor was excited by it, so who knows.  I only have one Fallopian tube due to an ectopic pregnancy last April. I tried IVF over the summer but due to poor response it was converted into an IUI, which resulted in me getting AF 6 days early. I'm at that point now and I feel AF coming. Been crampy for 2 days now. Feeling hopeless.
  • I did an IUI in early september. My first time on injectables, after five days of gonal-f 100iu, i had a 21 mm follicle. I used it CD4-8 and by CD 9 it was at 21 mm. Did IUI the next day.

I was just concerned that it grew that quick in five days. Also my estradiol level was only at 23 after five days of gonal-f when it was at 120 on CD3. It went down a lot when it should have went up. Has either of these things happened to anyone?
  • Lurking from PAIF @knottie9c27e57a67c3fe70 - TW - What I'm going to to say is my experience and isn't necessarily whats happening to you.
My first cycle this happened but before we could trigger/do the IUI the "follicle" disappeared. The only explanation they could think of is that since the estrogen levels weren't rising, decreased as well at one point, and the "follicle" just disappeared next day with no surge detected in my blood work was that it was a cyst. Likely the cyst was "eating up" the estrogen from the shots, causing it to grow. Sometimes cysts look a lot like follicles - they can only see so much with ultrasound. I had already been prescribed the trigger shot in anticipation on the IUI a few days later once the "follicle" had reached 18mm, I was in for my last check when we discovered it was gone. Given that, I wouldn't say "oh it's just not going to work" because our stories are similar, we were carrying on with the process given the size of the follicle because it was a great size.
Should this cycle not work for you (although I do hope it does!) then I would discuss "is it possible that it was a cyst?" After that experience I asked about my numbers each day and ask further questions based on that, trying to work "with" my nurse/doctor. My next cycle was a completely opposite cycle. I just learnt I really needed to advocate for myself and my numbers with that experience anytime I was concerned - the next cycle if I was even questioning something I asked to speak with the RE rather than a nurse or resident, which they were just fine with! It's your body, your time, your money!

  • Thanks for your story Jwatt.

I had concerns it was a cyst also but on day 3 ultrasound It was 7.25 mm and it grew to 21mm after six days. Would a cyst grow that quick? Also my bloodwork during the 21mm ultrasound showed I should be ovulating. So im really not sure. The IUI did not work and We plan to do an IVF this cycle but I dont like this estrogen issue.
  • @knottie9c27e57a67c3fe70 - Mine grew that fast but then just disappeared cycle day 10. It was crazy. It made the next cycle feel like it was taking forever to get the follicle to a large enough size/happy with the estrogen number, I think I was cycle day 15 with the next round when we triggered. With all of that we started slow, the increase my follistim amount almost daily - we closely watched the estrogen level with the follicle size and it made a lot more sense.
Good thing with IVF is they'll be able to control your estrogen level better and eliminate that as an issue - I hope it works for you!!!

  • Hello Ladies,
I am new to this site. I am so glad to find this discussion group for Sep-2018 IUI. I had my first IUI on 12th Sep. These 2 weeks waiting is awful. Anyways, My both the feet have slight swelling, I wondered if its a side effect of ovidrel shot but my RE says its not.  Wondering if anyone else has this symptom along with that I am feeling extremely bloated right after I eat my lunch/dinner. Are these symptoms common or I have some other issue going on?

  • @ttc235 Hm, that's interesting? I would assume your RE would be well aware of side effects so maybe it's something else? I think feeling bloated and full is normal! What other meds did you take, any?
  • Hi again Jwatt5.

I went for an ultrasound today on day two and i had a 24mm cyst. I said to my doctor that I thought the previous 21mm follicle from last IUI cycle was a cyst ans he disagreed but it makes sense since my estrogen was off and it grew after five days only of stims. The worst part is now he put me on aygestin indefinitely and im worried about taking that and worried about how long it can take to go away. Does anyone have any other stories of getting rid of cysts without BCP?
  • also want to add my estradiol has now went up to 675.

@crookshanks10   I took femara from cycle day 3 for 5 days and ovidrel 2.5 shot on 10th sep night and went for iui on Wed the 12th Sep. Feet swelling has gone down now slightly, hopefully it will go away completely. Though my RE said its nothing to do with the medication, I feel its due to Ovidrel shot since water weight gain is the side effect of that. Anyways, will keep you posted if I find the real cause of this.

I am 35, DH 35.We have 4 years old boy. ttc for second since last 2 years -- conceived twice naturally but miscarried both the times.  This time went for fertility treatment per my gynac suggestion and they suggested to try IUI's not sure how that helps miscarriages but going with what RE has. No explained fertility problems.

Did anyone got closer to end of TWW? how are the home preg tests coming along if anyone has taken them already?
  • I’m I’m getting close to the end of my tww and I stupidly took a pregnancy test today. 12 days after ovidrel trigger and 11 days post iui. Not supposed to test till Saturday. I took it in the afternoon too. And I got a positive. Not super dark but very visible. Ugh now I’m going even more crazy. Could it still be the trigger shot after 12 days? I should have waited till Saturday bc now this is driving me even more crazy.
  • @ttc235 I’m happy to hear it’s gone down! As an update I’m 10dpiui and had some small spotting today so I’m assuming my temp will drop tomorrow and AF will arrive :( On to IUI #2

@heatherrunner I’ve read that the trigger takes about 1 day for every 1,000 units you use. So I used 10,000 and figure that means 10 days past trigger. It sounds promising for you!! FX!
  • Oh no @crookshanks10 im so sorry to hear but even with a little spotting , I think you may still have a chance.
@heatherrunner it sounds to me like it's a real positive. Keep us updated. Would love to hear about some more BFPs this month!
  • @heatherrunner that’s sounds very promising, trigger shot should be out of your system by now. Keep us posted.

I also too home pregnancy test today, only 7 days after IUI 😝 for negative.. so atleast trigger shot is out of the system.

what kinda symptoms do you have ?

    @crookshanks10
10 dpiui spotting cud be implantation spotting, sounds very hopeful to me. Keeps us updated. Best of luck !

  • Thanks for the feedback ladies. I really hope so. But trying not to get my hopes up. I took 10,000 units of ovidrel so if it’s usually about a day per 1,000 it maybe is out of my system. Hard to tell if I have any symptoms just bc the progesterone suppositories I take twice a day make me feel weird anyways. Boobs hurts, tired (although I’m a labor and delivery nurse and have worked 5 days in a row 13-14 hour shifts so who knows if the exhaustion is from that).

    @crookshanks10
    Really hope it’s implantation spotting!

  • @heatherrunner wow that’s a lot of working hours. Take it easy girl ! It will happen 😊
  • So I went in for SHG test and they found a polyp and now will be out for this month for my IUI. 😔good luck to you ladies. Love hearing these updates.
  • @bobella22 Sorry to hear that. What do they do about a polyp or does it go away on it's own? I will be thinking of you. I can imagine being told to sit out a cycle is difficult.
  • Thanks @crookshanks10. It was pretty upsetting and disappointing, esp. B.C. I had already took the clomid and they saw a follicle growing . They are going to remove it with a minor surgery. They said it could be preventing me from becoming pregnant and could cause miscarriage so hopefully once it is removed, we can get a BFP soon after. Good luck to all of you ladies. Can't wait to hear your results !
  • @bobella22 It sounds like you have a great plan in place! When will you have your surgery?

Update: Full fledged AF has appeared. On to IUI #2

Im hoping we all get BFPs soon!
  • Oh no @crookshanks10 so sorry to hear that. Not the best feeling but hopefully next month will be it for you! Im doing the procedure on Weds. so most likely will be doing IUI #3  in early October.
How are the rest of you ladies holding up? Any news?
  • @crookshanks10 hoping next month is your month!

@bobella22 sorry to hear about the procedure. I know it sucks to have to wait longer but hopefully this will make getting pregnant easier the next time!

today was day 14 post iui and I got a positive this morning. Got my blood drawn and labs back a couple hours ago. HCG was 31 (lower than I was hoping by my RE said it was fine and not to worry)
progesterone was 88. Which apparently is really high. And my estradiol was good too. Still confused on how my hcg can be on the lower end of normal and progesterone really high and what that means. I have another blood test Monday to make sure hcg is rising. Trying to relax and celebrate the fact that I’m pregnant. Don’t think it’s sunk in yet. So much hard work, tears, and bad news makes it hard to process this now I guess.
  • Hello Ladies,
