Re: Weekly Randoms 9/10

  • You know what's more annoying than loading and unloading the dishwasher? Having to wash every single dish by hand!!!

New dishwasher is supposed to be installed today, I'm just waiting on a time. I, of course, forgot all about it and planned two things today one of which I'll probably have to cancel.
  • Loading the player...
  • @jgil85 our dishwasher has been broken for months. Like, 4 maybe? At this point I'm debating if it's even worth replacing.

Ughhhhhh. I'm actually happy about the cooler temperatures, but I just bought a lawn mower yesterday, and there's rain in the forecast every day for the next 10 days. First world problems.

ETA: I almost bought a house on a popular creek (you'd know the one). I'm thankful now that that fell through so that I don't have to worry about flooding all the time.

Same. I was so excited about the temp change but this rain is insanity. We were building a retaining wall but that's now on hold so I feel your FWP pain.

Also, samesies! We looked at one and found out it was in a flood zone and the basement you could tell had previous water damage and we passed on it and now I'm SO glad. We sit up on a hill so we're mostly ok. I'm glad we got our roof fixed last year.

  • @julesf817 I LOOOOVE MAFS! I watch every season. DH is so perplexed about how I could watch a reality show like that (and TBH I'm not much of a reality TV person) but somethibg about it is so fascinating.

  • MIL has been in town visiting this weekend (she's here for the fetal echocardiogram this afternoon), and man, I love her, but she is hyper as FUCK. She cannot sit down and is constantly cleaning (like, did a load of bath towels about an hour after I had put the new ones out - AKA THEY HADN'T EVEN BEEN USED ONCE). She's also vacuumed, bleached my kitchen (and rearranged part of it), torn out the garden, etc etc etc. These are all things we didn't ask her to do, and she didn't need to do, and yet I know she'll go home and complain to everyone there that she spent the whole weekend cleaning. So, just trying to be zen (esp since she'll be visiting a lot more now with her first grandkid on the way), and tell myself she is also constantly cleaning at her house, and everyone she complains to about us will know her and that this is just her, and now that DH and I are messy pig slobs. But also we probably will be messy pig slobs after LO is here for a bit right? So I really need to get over caring what she's thinking or why she's doing this and just "enjoy" it I guess? ... she also wants to throw us a virtual shower cause we told her we are only doing one (here in DC), and not going to Cleveland so a bunch of people we love (but whose showers we have sent stuff for but missed) can get us gifts. Pray for me this afternoon when it's just her and I at the appointment and drive to the airport.  :#

  • I have never had a dishwasher! I think having one has become more normal than not having one, judging from how I hear people talk about the whole thing... But it never really occurred to me to even look at one.

Still sick over here... The only time I can breathe is when I sit in my bedroom with the door closed and the humidifier on full blast. Just have to open that door, and noon, my sinuses go crazy! Thinking about requesting to work from home until this passes - who wants to work next to someone who is snotting all day long?
  • +1 to the MAFS fan club... although I can't get into this current season.  Just not a huge fan of any of the couples!

AFM, I would like to run away.  DH is driving me to drink except I can't drink so I've been crying, non-stop, for 2 days now.  When I try to talk, he's not interested but then he wants to talk at the worse times (DS in the room) and doesn't understand why I won't.  DS is off school and DH is off work today so I thought it would be nice for both to go to my appointment and see the baby since neither have yet.  I'm pretty sure that won't happen since we're in the midst of this dumb argument.  So I'm currently in my office working pretending he's not sitting upstairs ignoring how upset I am and just watching TV instead of talking or doing any type of helpful household chores.

  • @bradleysmommy28
Aaww, that's so hard! Seriously, go corner him right now and get it all out in the open. Don't keep that stress inside. Drive him batty until he has to respond to you, because that sort of non-communication isn't healthy.
  • thanks @leighbrek .... currently he's running around like a mad man because he has a 10:30 drs appointment that he forgot about until I just rudely had to remind him.  Because at 35 y/o he still can't read a calendar?? But as soon as he comes home he's getting cornered because now I'm just annoyed.  I guess venting to someone made me go from sad to angry about it all.  Yay pregnancy hormones!
  • Sorry @bradleysmommy28 I threatened to kick DH out of the house yesterday because he was pissy and it was driving me nuts. Luckily he adjusted his attitude but then of course I had to talk myself down b/c he had gotten me pissy.

  • @bradleysmommy28 @ladystout08 +1 to being argumentative with the partner lately. Some of it's him but I also have to admit that I've been picking fights, which is so unlike me. He will do 1 annoying thing and instead of letting it go/being rational I just fly off the handle. I thought this was supposed to be a first tri thing :)
  •  @kianarain & @ladystout08 - glad I'm not alone!  I honestly think I've been pretty good considering work stress & stress from DS just being a 5 yr old but I feel like DH has 'round the clock PMS with me, DS and the dog so it's making me extra irrational towards him.  And my anxiety is creeping as I approach 29 wks (when my water broke with DS) and it's adding to the irrationalness!
  • @bradleysmommy28 & @kianarain & @ladystout08 there must be something in the air -- I had a big argument with my DH yesterday too! He's driving me bananas with being worried about flooding. We had a sewer malfunction in Feb and it backflowed into our basement and we had to have it cleaned and torn up and refinished. So every time the forecast says rain.... UGH. Like he can't sleep, watches weather channels and looks at radar on his phone non-stop. He bought a back-up sump pump ($$$) that's battery operated in case the power goes out. On the one hand, I'm glad that he's so prepared (I am a super prepare-er too) but it's to the point that he'll shut off sewer access in the house (we have a shut off valve) and we can't use any toilets or water (something that's going to be impossible when the kid gets here... and is pretty difficult as a pregnant woman). THEN he gets mad at me because he thinks I'm making fun of him for being so worried about flooding (I do poke fun at it, but in a light way to try to take the stress off of it and make it less serious since he's freaking out for days on end). We got it all talked out yesterday (at least he's good about communicating) but DAMN it was a long fight. Of course on top of all of this I've been really sick still (nausea, etc).

    Andrea -- FTM at 39!

  • @wkuandrea ugh, sorry you're feeling our pain! At least he's a great communicator; I feel like as long as the communication is open, you're good. Who doesn't have arguments here and there? It's all about how you go about resolving.
  • @kianarain I went to Total Wine and got a dealcoholized cabernet and it's...ok? It definitely helped me fill the weekend wine void a little, but I did miss the warm, relaxed feeling that normal wine gives you. Maybe give it a go?
  • @alexandraseattle I had an alcohol-free Chard during our vacation in June.  Def not the same but it helped the tiniest bit.  Anyone else making "plans" for maternity leave that include visiting a winery (or a few)??

NEVER buy on a creek! Or at the bottom of a hill on low ground, for that matter... I live in Pittsburgh and we are on our 3rd basement flood (2 feet of water in the basement yesterday) since January. Luckily we are only renting this house and I'm not stuck here forever... I'm so over flooding
  • OMG @Mandamay1414 that's horrible! We've just had one (in Feb) and it was the worst, I can't imagine two more!?! Our house is not near a creek or at the bottom of the hill... but apparently we get the brunt of the sewer drains (the manhole is in the street directly in front of our house). There had been flood damage before, but the sellers said it was sump pump failure... after talking to the neighbors, we're pretty sure they were wrong :/

    Andrea -- FTM at 39!

  • @Mandamay1414 Ugh, I'm sorry. I'm in PA too so I know the rain y'all have been getting. I love Pittsburgh though!

  • @wkuandrea sewer back up is the worst! our first flood was from the sewer, so we plugged our basement floor drain after that one and thought that would fix the problem. Turns out we had water pouring in our foundation after heavy rains twice more.. at least it's ground water.. but we are too afraid to unplug the sewer drain to allow the ground water to drain fast because we are afraid that the water level isn't below the sewer yet. I'm just super nervous because I have no idea how much damage has been done to the washer/dryer, hot water heater, or furnace..

  • I live in NC (inland about 180 miles) but we are preparing from the impending hurricane and winds and flooding that is bound to happen. Praying and thinking of anyone else being effected!

I know @katethemom is in NC I think

  • @kianarain im totally with you on missing wine! It hit me hard on vacation this week, up until now I hadn't minded too much. I thought at one point I would treat myself to a glass of wine but given how we are more than halfway there and the unknown risks I know I wouldn't enjoy it. What's the point if I'm going to feel guilty after.  If anyone asks what they can do for me after the baby is here I will say let me have a glass of wine (or 2) and a nap lol.
  • @ersh1010 totally with you on guilt overriding everything else. And yessss I'm like...how soon after baby is here can I have my first glass?! Lol.
  • @emmaaa good luck I hope you stay safe there! I can't imaging the stress of having to deal with such a big storm. I hope everyone else in the storm's path stays safe too!

  • @emmaaa - good luck!!! I'm in Maryland and I heard this one is supposed to be pretty nasty all the way through which normally has pretty limited effects on our area but we've had a rough go with all this flooding lately.
  • Not wine but I'm missing beer like crazy. I took a sip of DH's the other day. Thinking of you @emmaaa

We shouldn't get hit directly but like @bradleysmommy28 and @kns1988 we've had flooding every other week so they're saying any rain from Florence will flood us again. Ugh. Thanks climate change.

  • @ladystout08 If you're missing beer, I suggest trying Erdinger non alcoholic beer. It's fairly decent - much better than the non alcoholic wines that I've tried!

  • @AshVA I'll have to see if I can find that somewhere. The O'Douls Amber isn't awful, it's far better than their regular ale or the Beck's canned stuff.

  • I'm missing beer too. I'm throwing a huge birthday party next Saturday and I'm going for a fiesta theme, because tacos. But it will be so hard to not have a beer or margarita. Especially because I hate planning and throwing parties. I haven't done anything for it yet and it's at my house. Thinking about it makes me want a beer that much more.
  • Our oven stopped working about 2 weeks ago now. (Stove still works, fortunately!) DH was supposed to get in contact with a repair guy to fix it and hasn't made any effort to do that yet. I'd do it myself but he's the one who's going to have to work from home to let the guy in, so I want him to call so he can plan it around his work schedule. He just told me last night that he has a couple work trips coming up. I'm going to be really annoyed if I don't have a working oven before he leaves.
Our garbage disposal has also been making a grinding sound for a long time, like something's stuck in it, but I can't see anything and I'm not sticking my hand in there to check! I'm hoping that when he does eventually call he can find someone to fix both at once.
Also, DH hasn't mowed the lawn in probably 3 weeks now and with all the rain it's looking really overgrown and I can't stand it! Part of that is because it's either been really hot or raining the last few weeks, and it's supposed to rain all this week as well. I'm trying to cut him some slack because of the weather, but we don't have a big lawn. He can mow the whole thing in about 20 minutes.
On the plus side, he has been taking care of the dishes after dinner so that's something.
