Re: Bouncing Baby Check-in (Week of Sept 7)
1) How old is baby; any milestones or brags this week?
36w2d gestational; almost 7weeks as an out baby.
Doing really well with the bottle feedings, still working on breastfeeding. It is pretty incredible to see him growing. I’m beginning to hate him being in the NICU because he’s a healthy baby (even though he clearly isn’t ready to go home yet by their policies).
2) How are you feeling, Mom?
Tired. However I changed my hours at work again to try to get better quality time at the hospital. One side effect is that I am also getting better quality sleep over all.
3) Rants / Raves / Questions?
Nopes.
4) GTKY: what are you afraid of? Spiders, clowns, anything atypical?
Falling backwards.
Being exposed as a stupid, worthless fraud.
@knottieamusements I hope he gets to go home soon! I imagine it's terribly frustrating especially now that Max is (and I hate to use this term but it's fitting) a "normal" baby. I hope he gets to go home soon. Also, sleep is important, especially since he'll come home and those patterns will definitely change. So I'm glad you're getting better quality and more of it.
**Side Note**I think we have a new Momma to add to this!!!
1) How old is baby; any milestones or brags this week? Liam is 6 weeks, or 32 weeks and 4 days. He's skimming 2 lbs (1lb and 15 oz) and was extubated, although he just got out of surgery and had to be reintubated for that but whatever.
2) How are you feeling, Mom? Mostly good, although yesterday was a bad day for me and Dad because we had a "breakdown" day. We got an overview on the possibility of ROP and it's effects and we both cried and got emotional and bitter. Today we're better and positive and praying our babe doesn't lose peripheral vision or have severe nearsightedness. That is worse case scenario and through this all Liam hasn't ever fallen into the worst case category.
3) Rants / Raves / Questions? I'm pumping 4-5oz each time, which is huge when you don't have babe with you. So feeling pretty proud lately. Also, I have most of his stuff now...just need him to get healthy and come home to me
4) GTKY: what are you afraid of? Spiders, clowns, anything atypical? My huge irrational fear is bridges and large bodies of water. I hate the idea of living on an island and I like cruises but don't like seeing the vastness of the ocean. Oh and snakes but I think that's pretty typical.

And yes, we are going through the hardest part for me right now. I was just in for my last post partum visit, and my OB put it best - there is nothing the nurses are doing for him right now that I can’t be doing myself, but he just isn’t ready to go home yet.
1) How old is baby; any milestones or brags this week? 35w1d. Bili level came back down after being a glow worm for 24 hours. Hopefully everything stays down and she can go home tomorrow.
2) How are you feeling, Mom? Feeling good, still a little sore from the staples which will come out tomorrow.
3) Rants / Raves / Questions? Nothing now.
4) GTKY: what are you afraid of? Spiders, clowns, anything atypical? I like the beach but am scared of the ocean!

1) How old is baby; any milestones or brags this week? 2 days old, 33w2d gestation. She's breathing room air and they've started a feeding tube and are lowering the iv nutrients appropriately. So she's actually getting nutrition from milk!
2) How are you feeling, Mom? Tired, sore. Like I was hit by a mac truck physically and mentally. But so pleased with her!
3) Rants / Raves / Questions? Did any of you rent a hospital grade pump? Worth it? My insurance will cover it, but it'll take time to get here. I have my pump at home, and I'm pumping normally (not the initiate/preemie cycle.) So should I even worry about it?
4) GTKY: what are you afraid of? Spiders, clowns, anything atypical? Um... depends on the situation. Biggest fear is probably being alone for the rest of my life - as in if everyone you ever knew or loved left you and you had noone. I don't think it's reality, it's just a fear.
I would ask the lactation consultants in your NICU for advice though. One of my coworker’s insurance didn’t offer a Spectra or Madela and she ended up with a different brand and lost her supply before it could even be established.
Also, the pharmacy at my hospital offered hospital grade pump rental- so there would not have been any waiting going that route. Again- your hospital’s LCs will probably know all about local options for getting a pump.
However my insurance makes it a huge hassle to get anything accomplished. They go through one preferred pump provider that you pretty much need a ritual sacrifice to speak to a person. And then the answer is typically, "go to a different online resource, I don't know."
Maybe I'll just use what I've got and not stress about it.
I love hearing how well all the babies are doing!

@knottieamusements Thanks. I'm going to try a different pump provider that should still billl my insurance. They can't refuse because it's not thier 'preferred.' Also I'd like to try the spectra s1. But the 'preferred' will only do the s2. I understand I'll likely have to pay a bit, but that's fine. I want the option.
Thank you guys!
