@snugglyduckling25 If your husband hunts you DEFINITELY need a deep freezer! My husband only hunts occasionally, but we put up a lot of stuff from the garden and getting a deep freezer totally changed out lives! And the thing that's so great about them is that even if you fill it up and end up with "more than you need," you can work your way through it without it going bad so not much gets wasted.
@hkom I tell him the same thing! I mentioned it again about a month ago and he seemed slightly more open to the idea, so maybe we will get there. Or maybe when I go to store breast milk and can’t find a place to put it it will force the issue.
@hkom MH doesn’t hunt but he wants a deer So our yard guy promised us last year that he would give us a doe if he got one, and then he never did. But he did bring us a big old box of processed deer meat anyway. Dude is the best yard guy ever. In any case, I grew up with a deep freeze and we were finally able to purchase one for our house when we moved in last year. It’s so nice to have that extra storage.

My family has had box seats at the NJ state fair for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I'd basically go every day the week the fair was open. It really hasn't changed much so it's always strange going back. I didn't make it up this year, but hopefully next year we can go with the baby.
@scaredunprepared Unpacking and painting sounds like a busy weekend to me! Good luck getting everything set up in your new place.
@maureenmce I think I'm going to have a hard time parting with baby clothing too when the time comes. Maybe you could hand down your girls clothing to a friend and say you'd like the option of getting it back if you want it?
I had fun at our dinner/game night last night, but I woke up feeling hung over despite not drinking anything (except a few sips from my husband's wine glass...). I think it's just the poor quality sleep? I wake up continually with aching hips and can't seem to get comfortable. The snoogle only does so much. When I finally gave up and got out of bed, I discovered that I must have pulled or strained a muscle doing my 18 minute prenatal workout on Aaptiv yesterday. I thought it was a little intense for 26 weeks.... lots of jumping. We did not clean up last night so the kitchen and dining room are a disaster that I can't bring myself to clean. I just want a cup of coffee and am going to try to get some work done. Blah.
Ugh, nothing says relaxing holiday weekend like the batteries in your smoke detector running out at the crack of dawn so it starts loudly beeping, waking up your toddler, then your husband leaves to get new batteries and you realize you're a foot too short to turn it off manually, so it just is going off for 20 min solid, probably waking up all of your neighbors and terrifying your toddler. Fun start to the day!
@maureenmce oh no! Smoke alarms are so annoying. They are important, but so touchy. Ours are wired to the building, so when I’m cooking and the kitchen one goes off it sets off the bedroom one too. We keep bar stools around to hop up to them, but I should probably let that be SO’s job from now on.
@maureenmce@tumbleweed-1 the fire alarm is one of the most annoying sounds. We actually took down ours in the dining room because it went off wayyyyyyy too much. My parents used to call it the dinner bell haha
@kadeephd@hkom I was wondering the same! The ny state fair is this weekend but it's so hot and muggy I don't really want to deal with the crowds. I would love to see a giant butter sculpture and drink some chocolate milk, though.
@morgantu@hkom You pay a flat fee for the week and get access to a private seating area next to the main horse ring, with an area reserved just for your family and your guests. It also comes with six unlimited fair passes and two parking passes for a reserved parking area and they give you rides on golf carts from the parking to the horse ring. Maybe other fairs don't do this? Or maybe it's not actually called box seats -- that's just what we've always called it.
ETA: I'm not crazy, that is what they are called. See here. We always get two parking passes though since we split it with my aunt. Maybe we pay extra for that. It's weirdly the New Jersey State Fair, but the Sussex County Farm and Horse Show.
@morgantu we used to take out our kitchen ones. We were disappointed when we moved into this more modern apartment and realized they are all wired to the bldg.
Re: state fairs. I’ve never thought/heard of a state fair that wasn’t in summer (I clearly don’t get out much). I guess it makes sense- some places are too hot to have summer fairs. Here, it’s too wet to have one not in summer. And it still isn’t uncommon if it rains in July or August. @texas_t your October fair makes me want to hit up farms/pumpkin patches sooo bad. I haven’t been to one in a few years. The last two years I bought store pumpkins, and the year before that I grew one!
@maureenmce that really stinks about your smoke alarm! That definitely sounds like something that would happen to me. Being short really sucks sometimes! @morgantu That is adorable!
@kadeephd I just got confused over the term "box seats" since I just associate that with sports games where you sit in one spot the whole time for a single event, and not a fair where you move from place to place to see different things. That makes sense though! Just like a VIP pass, but then the box seats specifically for the horse show.
@maureenmce I feel you on an unfortunate situation. Gave DD a bath. She proceeds to poop in the tub while full and shampoo still in her hair. I try to scoop it out with washcloths. I pull her out and she pees on the floor and must have stepped in poop along the way and got it all over the bathmat and floor. I had to refill the tub a little to get the shampoo out of her hair and just saw poop particles floating everywhere. Barf barf barf. She went down for nap #1 and instead of doing all the other cleaning I had planned. I had to deep clean the bathroom, bleach the tub (again, I had just cleaned it yesterday) and her toys and the floor. Now I’m exhausted and I’ve done nothing I wanted lol
@Jens_Hoes Oh NO!!! That is so much grosser and worse than fire alarm issues! Hope the rest of your day is much better!
AFM, the battery replacement did nothing so my husband disconnected it so I can nap for an hour (I was up with DD last night so I'm exhausted) and then we'll sort it out with the landlord later. I'm just glad the alarm is quiet now!
@kadeephd Yes, the giving to friends plan is the way I'm going to go with DD's clothes. We kind of keep hand me downs circulating within our group of friends. I am hanging on to the sentimental items but I went from three giant Rubbermaid containers to 1.5, so progress was made!
@pensivecrayon I’m glad your FIL is ok and I hope he’s doing better today! @jens_hoes Nothing worse than a tub poop! Sorry it extended beyond the tub though, ick!
Hey, all! As usual, I’m late to the thread party. We had our roof inspected yesterday morning and then went to our new gym. DD had a blast in their awesome childcare area and I pretty much overdid it between the treadmill and lunges. After the gym, my Mom and I went to lunch, picked up our race packets and then to Joann to pick out fabric for LO’s quilt (eeepp!). I made carnitas street tacos and we impatiently waited for the Nebraska game to start. Is that a touchy subject in your house too, @temmetime?! This morning, we got up and ran/walked the Broncos 7k at the stadium. I’m so sore, I’m laying in bed on the heating pad, and DH and my Mom are downstairs watching TV (probably sleeping). I hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend!
Thanks, @runrinserepeat, but I truthfully walked a majority of it because I wore myself out yesterday. I don’t know why I waited til week 24 to start working out?!
DH and his friend are painting the nursery. I'm sitting on the couch with said friends wife watching Sing I'm thinking I'm gonna eat chips and dip for dinner!
I hope all of y'all are.getting a 3 day weekend; Sundays are amazing when you get a.day off the next day!!
@Jens_Hoes oh no, that sounds no fun! You also made me realize that I’ve never had poop in the tub and now I’m scared that this baby could break my perfect record!
@Jens_Hoes Nooooooooo! We have been fortunate enough that we haven't had many bath poops, but when we do... they're bad. Not quite solid, not quite runny enough to just drain. Also since DH works late, I'm always on bath duty. I texted him to bring home some latex gloves from work for future cleanups and ended with "Add this to reason 1235762 why Mothers Day is so well deserved" lol!
I'm envious of those who had productive weekends. DS and I went to a bday yesterday and it wiped me out. Today I was super tired and unreasonably irritable so I'm still in my jams. Sending DH out for takeout in a bit! I felt so great about 2 weeks ago and was in total cleaning and nesting mode, but it seems to have faded. I just feel so unable to get anything done and it makes me feel even worse.
I have to start getting things organzied for baby Sloane, mostly just her clothes in DS's closet and split up the dresser. She won't have her own nursery which makes me really really sad, but we're planning on moving next year around June and I feel bad taking away from DS's space. Oh well! Once we move she can have her own space!
@westcoastfoodie My son didn’t have his own space until we moved. It was sort of sad missing out on all the fun nursery threads, but we all survived This one won’t have her own room at all, unless you count the closet where I’m planning on putting her crib until she sleeps consistently to move in with her brosky. #secondchildprobs
Over here, another random: Lawd help us. My husband has already moved on from finishing his dissertation draft (yaayyyyyy!!!!!!) to KonMari’ing everything in earnest.

@PensiveCrayon I know realistically she won't be utilizing her own space for so long anyway. I think we finally moved DS to his crib in his room around a year, so there's no point in shaking up his world/room just yet!
@clbness congrats on the 7k! You give me hope because I’ve been thinking of doing yoga regularly (my back hurts basically 24/7 these days). I’m hesitant because I’ll be 24 weeks on Tuesday and it seems “too late” to pick that back up. If you can start working out now, maybe I can too. (I did yoga a while ago pre pregnancy and I use supports so I don’t overextend myself)
@Jens_Hoes your poop story reminded me of a family vacation where I was helping my aunt bathe my little cousin and then all of a sudden there was poop everywhere. My aunt broke down crying but we managed to clean everything up together. That memory was apparently repressed because I hadn't thought about it again until this moment!
@hkom sorry you aren't able to manage/ delegate the organization duties from afar. But you are right, as long as you have what baby NEEDS you will be just fine.
@PensiveCrayon a friend of mine mentioned kon mari organization method the other day, and I was blown away. Makes so much sense, but seems like so much work. And right now, just no. Maybe a year ago this would have been my jam! Lol
