I'm debating not letting my mom see the baby unless she gets a flu shot (spoiler: she won't). It's not even because i feel really strongly about this topic (although she does work in a hospital so is exposed to lots of germs), It's more that i just get sick of her holier-than-thou, righteous attitude. She goes all in on stuff with very little concrete knowledge (veganism, all-meat diets, conspiracy theories, alternative medicine, anti-vaxx, coconut oil is life, etc) and then shoves it in my face, and i just want to stick it to her somehow. My hormones are out of control, guys.
I'm starting to think that murder is okay when it comes to husbands who tell their pregnant wives they've "had a long week already" when they most definitely have not...
I have been living in my flip flops all summer, even at work. Once I started getting marks on my feet from my sperry's, it was flip flop time. I will live in them till snow falls.
@jengibre_zorro - I checked to see if my parents were doing their TDaP and flu shots yesterday. Mom has a longstanding personal aversion to flu shots even though my Dad and I both get them every year. (Not sure why- she’s not anti-vaxx by any stretch of the imagination.)
It’s not that I’m against the flu shot but I am unable to get it due to allergies. I haven’t had the flu shot in over 6 years now and a couple other vaccines. I was fully vaccinated as a child but as I got older I developed an allergy to eggs and due to that I cannot get most shots now.
@knottieamusements that's awesome! Probable UO here but I never get my flu shot and no one in my household does either. I got the Tdap yesterday at my appointment but I wasnt planning on getting the flu shot or asking anyone to because I'd feel hypocritical.
I hate flip flops **except** FitFlops, for some reason my two pairs I have owned over the years are the only comfortable ones and the ONLY shoe where I don't mind something between my toes.
I never got the flu shot until I started working around babies and the elderly. Then I realized it was not fair of me to put them at risk when their immune systems are weaker than mine just because I always thought it was a silly shot to get. Now I get it every year because of my kids and I'm around my grandmother more. Personal opinion, but it's something and if it *might* help, it's worth it to me because I love these people and value their health.
DD and I got influenza a last year and it was no joke. She had her flu shot so it only lasted a couple of days for her. I was out of work for a whole week and symptoms started before that. That was the most miserable I had been in a really long time. I will definitely be making sure to get it and anyone that will be around the twins will have it. My aunt can’t get it due to an allergy to the shot, but she was fine waiting longer to meet DD and will be fine this time around. My mom lied to me and said she got the TDAP last time and she didn’t, so she will have to show proof that she got it this time or no visits from her either.
@knottieamusements I don’t think flip flops are a UO ...I would live in them if I didn’t work in a lab setting where closed toed shoes are not optional.
I never used to get my flu shot until I started working in the hospital, and it’s mandatory for all employees. DH never gets his but i think he is planning on it this year because of the baby. I don’t think I will require people to have it, but I will require them to have the tdap shot
Honestly, I get the flu shot because my employer makes it ridiculously easy to do. I work in an office environment and, prior to having a baby, I never spent any time around at risk people.
Dad gets one because he used to work in a hospital, and that is just part of his process.
I moved to a city with outrageous rental prices for the purpose of wearing year round flip flops!
I usually don't do a flu shot but this year I'm getting one for me and my 3 year old son. Last year was crazy deadly and I know that it won't be a guarantee that it covers the stain that is most prevalent but it's still supposed to lessen symptoms if you get it.
I forgot to ask at my appointment today when she recommends I get the flu shot. Has anyone asked yet? I’ve only every gotten it mid- October when my work does them so I don’t even know if it’s possible to get it before the baby is born.
I cant help but roll my eyes at people who share those ridiculous posts on Facebook about drugs people are putting in kids candy at Halloween or passing out at school.. do people honestly think drug dealers are just making up batches of ecstasy and giving that shit away to children for FREE!? Come on... Also cant stand when people share missing person posts that aren't from a police department or news page. If it doesn't have a date, or department number to call if you see that person then dont share it. You dont know how old the post is, if the person Sharing it is actually the parents or family member or some stalker, if the person is actually missing still or at all, etc.. my aunt shares these all the damn time and it's usually a couple months to years old post, the person was found, and it's literally across the country from any and everyone on her fb...
@rabtaido1214 I asked last week and my doctor said they should have the flu shot in the office in the next few weeks, she said plan to get it mid- late Sept.
My pedis office said same thing - mid-Sept the shot will be out so I’ll have dd get hers by late sept. My ob can do mine at their office. Dh will have to go to his doc or a minute clinic.
@mamabearcj - My aunt used to share these chain emails about women getting kidnapped in parking lots. (Do those even still go around?)
I got tired of them and finally looked one up on Snopes and sent her the link. I never got another one. I’m pretty sure she just deleted me off the recipient list and kept sending them though....
@sliztee She later told us that she never got it because she “didn’t have time.” I yelled at her that she could have killed her had she been a carrier and not known. This time I will be getting a receipt or something that shows she got it.
@mamabearcj and @knottieamusements This stuff is part of the reason I got rid of my facebook. My mom used to send my those terribly annoying chain emails and inspirational crap that I could just delete. But now that her and everyone else is on facebook I can't just delete it and I was forced to see the garbage. That and I was tired of getting sucked into stalking DH's ex...... for my mental health it had to go
@KFrob I'm about to do a huge clear out of my facebook "friends" I think next week. I do it a lot but with the babies coming there are people I dont need seeing that part of my life. Stuff like the annoying chains in my timeline if it's someone I plan to keep on fb (like my aunt) I'll just unfollow them so I dont have to see their stupid posts but she can still see pictures of the babies. But I definitely dont blame you for deleting it. I got rid of all social media for a little over a month or two and only came back to announce we were pregnant and kept it from there..
@mamabearcj Yes!!!! I’m also so over people posting screen shots without varifying the facts!!!! STOP!!! I’ve started reporting posts that are false. Also, it pisses me off when you show someone their post is fake and they ARGUE with you!
Re: UO 8/23

This was the conversation:
ETA - I’m guessing this is as good as Facebook...
but as I got older I developed an allergy to eggs and due to that I cannot get most shots now.

Oh @jynjer91 I totally go barefoot frequently where I can. Putting on shoes that aren't slip ons is almost impossible now
Speaking of shoes, has anyone tried Rothys?
