Possible baby names right now are Violet and Oliver. I am surprised to see the name Violet some many times in this thread. I love the name and never thought it was popular
Me: 32 DH: 31
TTC #2 since January 2018
Baby #1 DD Born 8/25/2016 BFP: 8/11/18 Due: 4/26/18
Possible baby names right now are Violet and Oliver. I am surprised to see the name Violet some many times in this thread. I love the name and never thought it was popular
Violet was 48th most popular girls name in the US in 2017 - compared to 734th most popular in 2000. It's definitely on the rise!
@whats0nemore My Italian grandfather’s name was Edilio. Everyone has nixed it as a first name, but I’m keeping it in the running as a middle name for a boy.
H and I have been discussing Gertrude. It was his Great Grandmother's name and my Grandmother's sister (who raised her when her mother died young). I know we are likely to get a lot of push back from those outspoken family members that hate the name, which is exactly why we aren't telling anyone. Also, Gertie as a nickname? So freaking cute.
Other family names in the running- Grace Linda (Lindy) Inez Beverly
ETA: We also have a Violet, but due to the popularity, we nixed it. I LOVE it as a name though.
Boy will be named after H- William Davis. Call him Davis or Davy.

I love the name Alice. It would have been DDs name if it wasn’t for the fact that the nickname Ali in front of our last name makes a rather bad suggestion.
She ended up Sylvia after a lot of searching and a lot of naming disagreements.

Me:32 DH:33 Married:04/2012 DD:07/2014 BFP 8/14/2018 #2 due 4/18/2019
Last night my husband and I spent hours discussing names. We have a good idea on a girl name, but I feel like all boys names are either way out there, or extremely average. I used the one name I liked on my son, so the next one better be a girl.
I looked at the Social Security name database at the top 100 names for each decade since 1880. It’s basically just all the same names.
@professormama I feel the same way about boys names! We found picking girls names to be so much easier and thankfully we ended up with two girls. Haha.
I am liking Magnolia, Eden, Vera and Claire for girls. I like Arlo for a boy but DH doesn’t like it. Liked Elias in the past but not so much anymore. Maybe Henry or Otto. We have Ivy and Stella so something older fashioned to go with their names.
Ivy: July 2010 | Stella: Dec 2012 | BFP#3: MMC at 11Wk's, July 2017 | Wyatt: April 2019 | BFP#5: Twin Girls due Sept 2020
So this is a fun(addicting) app. It’s like Tinder for baby names lol. Swipe right if you like and left if you don’t. Then it syncs up with your significant others app and shows you which names you both like
I’m incredibly indecisive. I’ve got like 20 names for each. For DS, after the anatomy scan we went out to lunch, I gave DH the list, he sidled it down to like 3, and then we picked our favorite from that (and then didn’t tell anyone until he was born). Honestly, the only reason I’m not team green is because I won’t finalize a name decision until I know because I don’t want to fall in love with a name and not be able to use it.
I guess my top 5 girls names are Victoria, Felicity, Sylvia, Sutton, and Beatrice. Top 5 boys names are Elias, Anthony, Tobias, Sebastian, and Felix. Honestly, Elias is my favorite, but I had a former student named Elias who passed away a few years ago and I just don’t know if I can deal with a reminder of that every day for the rest of my life.
@wearegroot I am going to suggest Malcolm to my DH tonight. I'm not sure about how it sounds with our last name - comes out as a mouthful - but maybe I just need to hear it said a few times!
@wearegroot@thrillsmomma Malcolm makes me think Outlander: James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser.
other Scottish names: Donald, Angus, Isla, any Mac- last name repurposed as a first name, Duncan.
my brother and I have talked about naming a kid Campbell after the Scottish branch of the family, but DH isn’t into it, so he’ll have to convince his gf to go for it.
@lyse01 We actually got the name from Captain Mal on Firefly, and then we went to Comicon and met John Barrowman and got him to sign a Malcolm Merlyn comic for us. I may have to start watching Outlander, now.
@baya5 will the app start giving you names before your DH joins? It just keeps wanting me to connect with someone. Of course my DH hasn't done it yet, so I'm at a standstill. I just want to see some names and play!
@lyse01 I fell in love with the name Claire after reading the Outlander series! I wanted it for DD2 but DH wasn’t on board. Maybe he will go for it this time!
Ivy: July 2010 | Stella: Dec 2012 | BFP#3: MMC at 11Wk's, July 2017 | Wyatt: April 2019 | BFP#5: Twin Girls due Sept 2020
@lyse01 I've never watched Outlander (not a big tv or movie person.... maybe I need to share that on another board), but it might be worth it to get some more name inspiration!
Before we were married, DH always said he wanted to name a son MacArthur. He has never seemed overly serious about it, but thinks it sounds rugged and cool with our last name. So remove the Mac and it becomes Arthur which I think I like but good friends just used that name for their son.
Maybe I will do some research of the family tree to see what that turns up!
Donald, Scott, and Keith are all family names we are considering for a middle name if its a boy.
@thrillsmomma You’ll catch many more names of minor characters by reading the books! Just prepare to plow through 800+ pages quickly per book (and there are 8 books in the main series, plus 5 or 6 300-ish page stories of Lord John side-stories, plus a dozen or so novellas).
I glanced through my own family tree and there are not a lot of first names in Scots (Mairi vs Mary, etc) but Wylie turned up as an interesting last name that could be a first name.
We have a boy name that we're pretty set on: Robert Matthew, from my dad and my husband's names. No idea yet on a girl name. I love classic/old- fashioned names. (DD is named Eloise.)
@lyse01Now you're speaking my language! I prefer books to movies/tv any day! Also I don't have a series on the go, so it makes sense to give the books a go!
My best friend just had her baby girl yesterday and named her Elena. I love it so much!
I’ve always wanted Clayton for a boys name if we have one because it’s my maiden name. Just found out my husband hates it and now I have no idea now so I’ll be following this post!!

So here's the latest for our boy choice:
Milo John or Milo Joseph?
Last name is 1 syllable
I looked at the Social Security name database at the top 100 names for each decade since 1880. It’s basically just all the same names.

Right now our girl names in the running are:
Lula (my grandma's name)
Penny
Margot
Parker
Hattie
Boy names are harder for us but right now we have:
Orin
Theo (this was our OG boy name if DD1 was a boy)
Oliver (but it's so popular)
Cooper
Owen
My DD is Stella and for this one so far top picks are Henry and Alice.
I also love Clara, Gwen and Celia for a girl. Bennett is the only other boy name I like right now.
We recently took a trip to Scotland (highly recommend!!!) And now my DH is obsessed with finding a Scottish name. XD
Leona and Tobias.
In all seriousness, Lyanna is on our names list because of Lyanna Mormont. That little girl is such a bada$$!
other Scottish names: Donald, Angus, Isla, any Mac- last name repurposed as a first name, Duncan.
