She was in my younger brother's girlfriend's social circle/roommate in college. I saw a pic of their group and asked who she was, so my brother's gf gave us each other's msn messenger. We chatted on that for a while before all three of them came to my college town for a weekend of skiing and hockey games. We hit it off, but then I took a teaching job in AZ, so moved 2000 miles away. We survived long-distance until I moved back a few years later.
Love these stories! MH and I met working on a project in a city neither of us lived in. And through a hilarious miscommunication, I thought he was gay. He created a fake “layover” in my city and we had an awesome time, but nothing happened. I told my sister after that day “he’s the perfect guy for me, too bad he’s gay.”
We met up again a few months later when I was in his city for work. I finally caught on to his pursuit after he kissed me. We pretty much never looked back. We got engaged a year later never having lived in the same city, but somehow it all worked out. Together almost 12 years, married 9.
Woohoo! Thanks for the bump @AdorkablePixie. I wasn't on here yet either.
How did you and your partner meet?
Ours is such a love-hate story for me. We met when I was a senior in high school and he was teaching. Love: from the moment we crossed paths I felt an immediate, crazy connection. Hate: when people ask me this question I feel the need to go into this long explanation of how there was nothing even remotely inappropriate or scandalous about it. I had study hall across from his class. He had either his prep or lunch or a study hall at the same time. I remember hearing Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset (Modest Mouse - my favorite song of theirs) coming from his room. I think i asked my teacher if I could go to the restroom or something, then popped in to tell now-DH that I loved that song and asked if I could hang out in his room. We bonded the rest of the year over music and books and writing. We stayed in touch after I graduated and would get together for lunch. Two summers later we went on our first official date, and the rest is history!
How long have you been together/married? Just a week or two ago made it 8 years together. September will be 6 years married! ETA: now I'm listening to that song and reading all your stories. I love this!
My DH and I met at work (the company that he and I no longer work for). He worked for the corporate office in Manhattan, KS and I was at the Denver branch. I was heading from Denver to Topeka for a wedding and decided to stop in Manhattan to see what the KS office/warehouse was like and meet the people I talked on the phone with. I remember meeting him while I was given a tour (I remember liking his name, his blue eyes and his big shoulders). Well, 1.5 years later, he transferred to the Denver office and I thought he and one of my girlfriends would make a good match. Neither one of them were up for an awkward setup, so it kind of ended there. I was kind of dating someone (nothing serious), but the more I got to know H, I really liked him. I had gone home from work sick one Friday, but actually had plans to go to the big country bar in Denver to see Tracy Lawrence play. I had started feeling sick again, so I told my girlfriend I would come back and pick her up whenever she needed me to...which I did. I got home and H had texted me to see how I was feeling (umm, the guy I was seeing didn't even care how I was feeling, but H sure cared!). We ended up texting for a while and he was bored with the people he was hanging out with (and he was too buzzed to drive), so I ended up picking him up and driving him home...on the condition that he buy me breakfast for driving all the way across Denver to do so! We were eating breakfast and drinking coffee until after 2 and had the best conversations about friends, family, church, growing up in KS, me loving the Jayhawks and him being a Wildcat, etc. When I pulled up to his place, he asked if I wanted to come in and get some cinnamon rolls his Mom had sent him ( ). I politely declined, but I spent the rest of the weekend thinking about him and ended up breaking things off with current dude. I told myself I was going to somehow tell him how I felt after work Monday, but I chickened out, so I used his friends birthday as an excuse to grab happy hour on Tuesday. We met after work on Tuesday and had appetizers and drinks, which turned into lots of drinks. Imagine that, the liquid courage enabled me to tell him how I felt and I ended up kissing him and we spent the rest of the night talking and making out. He ended up telling me that he remembered what color shirt I was wearing when I toured the KS office and he was excited that I was still working there when he transferred...and that he was disappointed when I wanted to set him up with my friend.
We got engaged after a year of dating and have been together for 5.5 years and married for just over 3. We had DD 4 days before our 1 year wedding anniversary.
SO and I met welcome week of college freshman year. We lived on the same floor, across the hall from each other. I became close with his roommate pretty quickly, who was much more social and outgoing than SO. Tuesday night (August 26th!) I stopped by their room to ask if SO's roommate wanted to hang out, but only SO was around. I asked if he'd like to go for a walk instead. We hit it off right away, but were both too afraid to make any moves. But we went on plenty of late night into early morning walks together and really got to know each other and became friends first.
My favorite early memory of our relationship was an evening star gazing while laying together on the university track. A close second is sneaking onto the university's daycare playground around 2 am to swing together. Third favorite is walking together into the early morning hours, and going up to our 10th story dorms to watch the sun rise over campus. No kisses, no pressure, just innocent enjoyment of each other's company.
Nov 8th, he finally got up the (liquid) courage to kiss me. Followed with an incredibly romantic, "so I guess we're dating now, huh?". Lol How could I say mo to that?! We'll have known one another for 15 years in 5 days, and will be celebrating our 15 years together Nov 8th, just before baby girl joins our family. We are hoping to FINALLY tie the knot in Sept or Oct! About time!
