Probably not a UO around here but I really really really wish it was more socially-acceptable to leave my child in the (running!) car for two minutes while I go inside a store to take care of business (or like, a gas station to pee). Sigh.

@westcoastfoodie I hate seeing newborns in dressy or frilly clothes that look uncomfortable. So many coming home outfits do not look comfy. I’ll be wearing yoga pants s home, so why should baby have to be dressed up and miserable?
@katy0990 Ahh yes that's why I'm not telling many people the sex because I'm hoping that'll make people stick to onesies and sleepers. So many baby clothes just look unbearably uncomfortable to me!
I was so confused at first - y'all don't do coming home outfits, so the baby comes home...naked? LOL my idea of a coming home outfit is the same damn gerber top the hospital has and a pair of comfy pants.
@hkom DS wore sleepers and onesies for like the first year. I think I can count on 2 hands the number of times I have put him in anything other than that or sweats and he’s 2 now. Let them be comfortable!
@westcoastfoodie +1, I might put LO in a welcome home outfit for him to wear when DH returns from future deployments - but just coming home from the hospital? Puh-leez.
@PensiveCrayon Hells yes. It is bonkers that it’s practically illegal to leave children alone EVER. I’m not this kid’s attendant!
My UO today is that Trunk-or-Treating is sad and lame. Where's the fun for kids? Walk around wearing a costume in a parking lot? Booooo. (Not the good Halloweeny Booooooo BTW.) I will only go trunk-or-treating if we live so much in the ghetto that we're actually in danger at night (and cannot drive to a fancier neighborhood for trick-or-treating), or if DH and I are too disabled to walk with LO.

@PensiveCrayon Yes! I should be able to return a library book or mail a package without having to drag my 2 year old inside! Especially in the winter when it takes forever to put his coat on and off for a 2 minute errand!
@echo-charlietango Agree! I have yet to understand the point and I see people doing them in nice neighborhoods. They’ve already almost killed Halloween in my area by making the curfew shortly after the sun goes down (lame!) and now it’s in the middle of the day in a parking lot? Laaaaaaame.
@katy0990 Yes! Soooo much time just to get them out of that stupid car seat and back in. Argh. And then if they're in the middle of a car nap, as happened to me the day I needed to pick up my laptop at Panera. (That day I actually did decide to leave him in the car and run inside after like fifteen minutes of waiting, but the minute I opened the car door he woke up.)

Multilevel marketing: I don't care how close we are, how good your product is, how much you need the money, how deeply you believe that yours is different, or what you're selling, I'm not buying. Period. Stop asking. I have ethical issues with the business model of the company you represent, and I will not buy from you or anyone else, any more than I'd patronize certain restaurants/craft stores/ride share services/social media platforms that I feel have crossed a line just because you signed up to work there.
@PensiveCrayon I leave DD in the car to run in for stuff if she's sleeping. She's still in the infant seat so I pop her out easily if shes awake, but no effing way I'm waking her up to grab a loaf of bread WHEN I CAN SEE THE CAR.
I also agree about coming home outfits, and even outfits while in the hospital. They provided swaddle blankets and long sleeve onesies (with the fold over part to cover their hands) and my daughter was in that the whole time she was there.
@echo-charlietango I've never heard of trunk or treat. Where do they do that? Are kids then not allowed to trick or treat?
UO or FFFC, not sure.. I don't donate to charities that go door-to-door, unless it's a bottle drive.
I don't know who you are and if the papers you are carrying are legitimate;
nothing you tell me will convince me that this is a good cause - I need to do the research myself because you are clearly biased and have a script;
chances are you are getting paid to walk door-to-door, which is a red flag that the organization is wasting money on admin costs instead of whatever they are supporting..
Oh my gosh, trunk or treat is so lame! The whole fun of trick or treating as a kid was going to as many houses as possible and trying to collect the most candy!
@Jens_Hoes Trunk-or-Treating has become a safer alternative to trick-or-treating, they are often held in church parking lots, and other community spaces. I understand churches sucking all of the Samhain out of Halloween, but all that does is make the night a dressed-up candy grab. I like this quick criticism about "trunking" from freerangkids.com https://www.freerangekids.com/the-problem-with-trunk-or-treat/

@AGK2015 Seriously. I especially dislike MLM military spouse peers because instead of calling and texting to support one another the contact turns sales-based. Way to ruin a community! *sigh* Having said that I must disclose that I do buy LipSense because it's effing magic, but it makes me sad that it cannot be purchased outside of the pyramid.
@ab_canada I don't think I've been solicited from any door-to-door charities, just local kids fundraising for their schools by selling candies and crap. But I agree, and would certainly check them out online before giving them monies.

TOTALLY agree about the MLM sales... and I used to sell Passion Parties. It’s such a scam and like, so awkward. I don’t want my friends to ever think I’m using them to make a sale.
We had had a ton of cute clothes for our son and he wore ONE outfit for Xmas pics. And he would have been just as cute in a onesie. I’m not buying anything other than onesies and sleepers for this one for the first year.
I wish I could leave my kids in the car while I run in somewhere. I think back to when I was a kid and how my mom would leave us in the car. It’s such a pain in the ass just to run in and grab something somewhere. I feel like a hermit and hostage because it’s easier to just order out or amazon stuff. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it, but I think that has more to do with where I live (LA). People are sketchy AF.
@Jens_Hoes I miss the infant seat for that reason! Also, I didn’t dress DS until we were getting ready to leave the hospital. He just wore the hospital outfit and blanket. Why would I want to bring home more dirty laundry?
Totally agree about the MLM! I had a friend ("friend") send me such a sweet message after the birth of my daughter and then when I replied to thank her, she immediately tried to sell me something! And tied it into like, an energy drink for postpartum blues or whatever. It was so gross (and unscientific!)
But wow, no idea so many people disliked coming home outfits! I guess in tomorrow's FFFC I'll have to confess that I have already bought two of them so we'll have options! And I'm going to buy a third! Whoops. (Then I swear I'm done, haha.) They're just sleeper type outfits with coordinated hats to keep newborn heads warm, so nothing crazy, but I love picking out something fun for a coming home outfit!
Coming home outfit side note - my DD came home in a little dinosaur sleeper set that said cute-a-saurus and all of the nurses were like..."dinosaurs??? But she's a girl!" And that was my first experience in sexist gender expectations toward babies! On day one! Dinosaurs are not for any particular gender! (Side note - totally unrelated to her coming home outfit I'm sure, but my DD is actually completely obsessed with dinosaurs, to the point that I had to buy her six copies of the same dinosaur shirt because she literally refused to wear anything else for a good 4 month period, haha.)
I had a going home outfit planned for DD. My BFF gifted me a monogrammed onesie but it was a 6m so I asked her to get me another one in a NB. Well DD came early so I didn't get the NB onesie in time so she just wore a cute outfit home. I honestly don't even remember what she wore. Maybe there's a pic?
I wish I could leave DD in the car for a minute. I was in Mcdonalds drive thru and drove off with half my order. I was able to back up and get the rest of my order but I had a thought of how do I run in for a second to get my order??
We went to a trunk or treat last year and actually it was quite fun. DD was only 17m so she really didn't get the whole point of Halloween. It was perfect because we could get dressed up, let her walk to the cars get candy and leave whenever. Our neighborhood is older and no one participates so it was nice to go somewhere.
@maureenmce I’m expecting to get a lot of that with this baby because most of her clothes for the first year are hand me downs from my son. I’m all about smashing gender expectations... maybe my girl will love Dino’s, space, bugs and/or sports!
Another UO or maybe a confession, but I hate sports. I’m the black sheep of my family in that sense. I’ll support whatever my kids decide to do, but I’d really struggle if they decided to play football. Too many head injuries. Golf... golf is safe lol
@westcoastfoodie Yeah, my DD has lots of interests that are traditionally considered "boy" interests. She loves dinosaurs, space/astronauts, is obsessed with cars and has a huge collection of Hot Wheels already, and wants to be a firefighter when she grows up! She also loves necklaces, kitties, stuffed animals of all kinds, and pretending to put on makeup like mama, so she is into things all across the spectrum. We just let her lead the way, interest wise, and see what she is attracted to! And yes, my husband and I have already discussed that neither of our kids would be allowed to play football, sadly. I think it's a fun sport but the CTE studies are incredibly scary and it's just not worth it!
@hkom Oh yeah, dinos are awesome! I've always liked them too and I'm so excited my DD shares my enthusiasm for them!
@ab_canada Yes! Totally agree with you, and I'm in the fundraising profession! I give to select non-profits that I have vetted and researched and that's it. (And while non-profits do always have some admin costs, you are right that paying door-to-door people is a waste of money... it's neither an efficient nor an effective way to fundraise.) Besides, it irks me to the nth degree when someone comes up asking for a donation (or a signature for a cause for that matter) because I have a no soliciting sign. They always say "Oh, I'm not selling anything!" And I'm like, "no, you're soliciting me for xyz thing while I'm at home! That's just as bad! No soliciting means no soliciting of any kind." I will give to the non-profits I choose and I will get politically involved in the ways I see fit. The only people I want to come up to my door soliciting are people with Girl Scout cookies.
@maureenmce I love that she had a dinosaur sleeper! I'm doing baby girl's nursery with a space theme, and so far everyone has been like "That's so cool!" I'm just waiting for someone to respond with gender expectations and teach them a lesson. Ha!
@westcoastfoodie I don't get sports either (and neither does MH - thank goodness). I'm totally afraid that LO is going to love football like the rest of our families Well, not afraid afraid, just it's a past time that DH and I won't be able to immerse ourselves into for LO.

@westcoastfoodie@maureenmce I'm also not into sports. My husband and I have already talked about it and decided no football. Non contact sports are fine, I guess.
Count me as another one who actually likes the coming home outfit. Just a cozy color-coordinated sleeper and newborn hat. But that’s for me, because aesthetics make me happy. I might get a little judgy about a non-cozy coming home outfit.
Also, on a related note: my daughter loves this book about waiting to become a big sister, and has decided that she’s going to wear a special outfit to welcome the baby home from the hospital. But that was her idea, not mine.
@LLynde5 my daughter is 4. I would say it’s good for toddlers through age 6 or so? It’s mostly pictures with little flaps to look at baby inside mama’s tummy.
@Katzalia We should have a children's book recs thread at some point! I have so many I would recommend, especially for smaller babies to get them interested in reading, and I love getting recommendations from other people too!
@LLynde5 Woo hoo! What's your coming home outfit like, if you don't mind my asking? This time around I bought one that's a dragon sleeper with a little hat with felt scales, and one that's bear themed, including little teddy bear booties and a bear hat. All at Target, where I spend way too much money, all of the time. The third one I've got my eye on is fox themed, in case we go with Fox as a name and want to be very on the nose about it, haha. Oh btw, Target has new dinosaur pants and shirts in the latest Cat N Jack collection! Scooped some up for my DD last week!
@maureenmce good call on the kids’ books thread. There are so many good ones out there! And then there are those few I’ve had to make disappear for my own sanity.
Not sure what I’m going to take this kid home in! I’ll definately plan an outfit to put in the hospital bag, but probably won’t get anything special specifically for “coming home”. Last go round it was whatever A was wearing when he was released. I don’t even remember.

@LLynde5 Oh I love them both! Here are my options if we go with the name Fox, Kit, or any name with Fox as the middle name.
@LLynde5@maureenmce I’d stay away from gowns as going home outfits since you will need to strap your LO into their car seat and would have to hike up the town for the crotch buckle.
@LLynde5@maureenmce I’d stay away from gowns as going home outfits since you will need to strap your LO into their car seat and would have to hike up the town for the crotch buckle.
I was just going to say the same thing. Though in LA you might be fine with naked legs under a blanket for a quick ride home, @maureenmce.
@LLynde5 you’re welcome. I hope your daughter enjoys it. And no, I’m not in PA — I’m in MA.
@Jens_Hoes good call. Guess I will have to find one more outfit!! For DD, we dressed her in her own clothes the whole time we were at the hospital. The nurss thought it was funny at first but said it was alway easy to tell which one was ours. Lol. I bought a bunch of the embellished hospital hats too and plan to do that again with this LO.
DD was born in WV. They deliver about ten babies a day there and are fully/over staffed. I was so worried about having a baby out of town but we couldn’t move back to PA due to work. It was a rough delivery but the staff was amazing. Kinda sad I won’t be going back there for this one, we got so much extra attention, I fear this experience will be more stressful. I just had a friend delivered and she’s said the second night she desperately needed sleep. Her DH had to go home and be with their other child and the nurses guilted her into keep the baby in her room. The nurses acted like if the baby went to the nursery she’s would be missing out on her only time to one and one bond.
