Re: Favorite Names Thread

  • @socks2819 - thanks! Right now, it’s mostly just every doctor’s office asking if they spelled it right and the occasional well meaning card spelled wrong. Doesn’t bother me - especially since people have managed to mangle Elizabeth my whole life.

@BarefootContessa we’re totally going to use leftovers from DD for this one.

  • We’ve had names picked out for years.
For a girl, Olivia Noelle. I know Olivia is super popular, but I’m so picky on names and it’s the only name I like for a girl.  We have a Spanish last name, and I really want names to flow well. For a boy, Marco Antonio after his dad. DH’s middle name is also Antonio, and they call him Toño. It would be fun to have a little Toño of my own!
  • @kangstadt I'm a big fan of Wren and Fae! We are the opposite and have a girl name... Eowyn (Winnie for short)... but we are never certain about boy names. Right now Milo John is at the top of the fickle list. We also like Henry and Rocco. It evolves on a daily basis lol

  • @dapoint23, how do you pronounce Eowyn?  I love that, hadn't thought of it (even though I have Elowyn on my list).  DH isn't liking Wren now, but he says Fae is growing on him.

A-oh-win .... from Lord of the Rings
  • @dapoint23, oh duh.  I knew it looked familiar.

  • So I hadn't said my names yet. Mostly cuz I'm nervous to because we had a loss in may. But I'm going to be positive and I had a sign from the universe yesterday so

If it's a girl its Charlotte Ray or Audrey Lain.
Boy is Oliver Alan, Maxwell Alan or Montague (will go by Monty or Montag like from the book farhenight 451).
  • Would love to know what you’re considering (or if you need help)! I’m Jewish and half Israeli and plan on only using Hebrew names too :)
  • I love Porter for a girl. But I worry about people teasing since "porky porter" would roll off a kid's tongue so easily. I also like Bianca.

Boy names are much harder for me. I had my son's name picked out for years before we even got pregnant, and it was literally the only boy name I liked. I don't have any more ideas. I like something a little old fashioned and unusual, but not unheard of or hard to spell.
  • @professormama like Albert or Zachary?
  • @professormama, what about Gideon?  Or Cole.  First two boy names I could think of, haha.  We pretty much looked through a baby name website and fell in love with one.  It was never even a question, now I'm having trouble narrowing it down!

  • @professormama I LOVE Bianca. Much prefer it to Porter.

  • @kangstadt I don't love Gideon, for no particular reason. Cole is actually a family name for us! But I'm not sure I would use it for various complicated reasons having to do with messy feelings. hah. Like I said... I'm super picky about boy names.

@MRDCle Bianca is growing on me, and it's not too popular. Although, it's slightly more popular than I prefer. I think I'll always love Porter, but the relative ease of teasing a child with that name is really off putting.

It's probably going to take us months to decide. With my son, even though I'd had the name picked out for a long time, we firmed it up when we went on a cross-country road trip and had days in the car together. Guess we will have to do another family road trip soon.
  • @daniellel0322 I saw you are looking for Hebrew names... Tziporah is my favorite.... Zippy for short
  • So far for a girl all we've thought of is Mae, Lucy or Emmy.

For a boy so far it's Cole, Beckett, Brooks, Hayes or Miller.

Thoughts? Our sons name is Kellan if that means anything

  • @daniellel0322 My husband and kids are Jewish. Daughters are Naomi Hannah and Leah Sarah.  I love Old Testament names.  Considering Esther, Jacob, Isaac... Simple, common but not super popular names.

  • My sons name is Theodore and goes by Theo

for a girl we always come back to Violet, which is my grandmother’s name. We also like Josephine (nn Jojo or Joey) a lot.

For a a boy I’m all over the place. We kinda like Beau, kinda like Knox, kinda into Sebastian. Same thing happened last time around— couldn’t fall in love with any boy names but chose Theo in the hospital and it suits him perfectly :)
  • @jmesue1030 we weren't able to use Theo for our son and I was so bummed it we couldn't have it on our list - Violet is awesome and I love the family conenction.  Sebastian or Beau are my fave two of your boy names.

  • @ProfessorMomma My husband and I were going to use the name Porter if our DD was a boy. I wanted to use it with our third but he decided he no longer loved it. I didn't even think to use it for a girl! That's cute!

    @nottodaysatan
I know exactly how you mean about being nervous, me too, but your names are beautiful!
  • @BarefootContessa I got the idea to use Porter for a girl from an interview on a blog I read! I actually get most of my name ideas from blogs and books. We found our son's name on a (different) blog

  • @jmesue1030 I love Josephine too!  I have a friend whose daughters' names are Penelope and Violet with nn's Penny and Lettie and I am so jealous I didn't get to them first.  Also, the family connection is great.  Boy-wise, I think Sebastian is awesome, nn Sebbs?

@kangstadtSebastian is definitely growing on me! Never thought of the nickname bash! That’s cute!
  • @socks2819 yes I was thinking Seb or Sebby!

@RainNFyre Benjamin is the only name in my SO's list right now!
I like Remy and Malachai too,
Koven most of all for a girl, Koven wren would mean "wild little songbird" and I just love it so much.
Wren also means Little Chief or Tiny Conqueror  <3
  • @nottodaysatan Montague going by Montag killllllllls me, it is so cute!!!  As an English teacher, I can tell you that kid would be my favorite student from day one!  :)
