Re: July 2018 FET

  • @kristimh80 Thanks for the info.  I'm doing the PIO shots every 3 days along with the Crinone.  I'd rather do the inserts than do PIO every day  :s   You're about a week ahead of me in this whole process.  Are you exhausted?  I have the hardest time in the mornings waking up.  I get up at 6am but I don't feel like I'm actually awake until around 10ish.  Have you had any morning sickness yet?  I've been ok so far.

  • @becca07024411 so exciting about your squinter so early on! I’m happy for you!

@Chrysalis7 those are great numbers, congrats!!!

AFM, hope you don’t mind me hanging out here still but I’m still waiting for a response from my clinic about the ERA. They got back to the office Friday so I sent an email reminder and forwarded my message this morning. Also requested a sonohysterogram.
  • Squinter on Wondfo Day 5, 6,7 but it's not really getting darker.  They all look about the same.  I'm want to enjoy this but I also don't want to get my hopes up.

@becca07024411 Congrats! And same here.  I think it's both!
  • Good morning everyone! Just wanted to send positive thoughts to all of you and wish you a great week ahead!
  • @suziev3 mine were all faint lines on days 6,7 & 8 and they all looked about the same, but it got darker on day 9 and even darker on day 10.  Give it a couple more days.   ;)

@Momifbysea I'm glad that you're moving forward and requesting the sonohysterogram.  Let us know how it goes!  We are here for you <3

@becca07024411 Hopefully that squinter will keep getting darker.  <3

@lizy181 hopefully this week will fly by!  The waiting is torture!  My brother and his wife have their first ultrasound today.  I have to wait until the 16th for mine.  Hurry up and wait! :D

  • @kimberlyshae No morning sickness here either. I'm the opposite, I feel great in the mornings, then after lunch I'm a zombie!!! Been making smoothies for breakfast and sipping thru the morning and they have helped so much in the energy dept.

@Momifbysea Sonohysterogram is a great idea! Hopefully they'll get back with you soon about it all :)

@lizy181 Hope you have a wonderful week too!

@suziev3 I had a squinter on day 6 and it took I feel like til like day 8 or so to really look more prominent. So give it time. It'll take a minute for the HCG to double and really make a difference.

  • @leilee101 I have a gross question to ask... when you were spotting, was it just like you were about to start, like just blood or was it mixed in with like a clear elastic discharge?
I just started spotting and its freaking me out. However, I've never spotted like this before so I dont know if it's good or bad.

  • Woohoo on the squinters for @becca07024411 and @suziev3!! Keeping everything crossed for you ladies going into beta, try not to drive yourself crazy testing and retesting daily!

@bpietronicco yay for getting started! Hopefully the results of that ERA are exactly what needed to happpen and this is the last cycle you’ll have to go through

@kimberlyshae this thread is all about TMI so ask away lol.. yes it was spotting like AF was about to start. I guess it was less like blood and more like brown discharge, so like “old blood” mixed with CM. It happened again today but beta from yesterday came back at over 11k (yes I literally insisted on FOUR betas lol) and all doctors continue to assure me it’s totally normal. Any blood sightings are obviously super anxiety provoking but as long as it’s not heavy or accompanied by cramps it’s apparently nothing to worry about! BTW, my first US is on 8/16 also :)
  • @leilee101 Ok thank you!! That makes me feel much better. Mine wasn't brown... it was more pinkish red but it was swirling around in my CM. I haven't been cramping lately so that makes me feel better too.  I think I'm gonna go in for a 3rd beta just to be sure. Yay for us being ultrasound buddies! 9 more days!

  • Hey everyone. Well, I heard back from my RE yesterday regarding my requests. I will be doing both a sonohysterogram and an endo scratch but no ERA. Remember I told you many in our clinic were away last week at the 40th anniversary of IVF conference in San Diego? They attend this conference every year. Well they actually heard the latest data regarding the ERA which was shared with me. Here is what I was told. As difficult as the part about older embryos was to hear, I will be more realistic going into this second FET at age 44: Both studies presented in San Diego including the randomized trial from the group that developed the ERA test found NO benefit from doing ERAs compared to not doing it.  Indeed, the scientific director in Canada found 80% of his samples were pre-receptive in a non-selection study.  There was no impact on these results on implantation.  Older eggs have a harder time developing the energy needed to sustain implantation and cell division.  This is why implantation decreases with age even for euploid embyros. Then the nurse added (she also attended the conference) that of all the studies they reviewed at the IVF conference with other IVF clinics near and far, there has been no benefit in doing the ERA. They were saying it just increases costs for patients with not giving a proven result of better implantation.

So I am moving forward with peace of mind with the absolute latest ERA data from the field, particularly a trial from the test’s developers. I know that some REs hypothesize that either an endo scratch or HSG help aid implantation, so I am moving forward with both. I feel less stress also with this timeline.
  • @momifmysea I’m really glad you have a plan you are confident in moving forward.  Like your RE, my clinic does not have a lot of faith in ERAs because the lack of evidence, but they do suggest endo scratches after a failed transfer along with a couple other things.  Remind me, were yours tested?  I know it really sucks, but I have read that most of the time if an embryos doesn’t implant it is because it is abnormal, so obviously we want to do everything we can to make a normal embryo have the best chance to implant, but sometimes you can do everything and if it is abnormal, it just may not implant.  I feel pretty confident that the embryo from my 1dt transfer did implant because it was abnormal and if for some reason it had, it would have resulted in a cp or mc.  I am so hopeful for your next cycle.

    @suziev3

Mine is Saturday, which will be 9dp5dt.  I tested again last night and this morning and didn’t see the line on the FRER get any darker either- they all pretty much look the same.  I was going to wait until tomorrow morning which would be 7dp, but I took a CB digital along with the FRER this morning and I was regretting it for a second because the FRER was so so light again, but to my surprise the digital was positive.  It is a really weird feeling.  Like, happy for the simple fact that it is not a negative, but still can’t really be excited about the positive because I know it is so early and so many things that could still go wrong.  You know what I mean?  Even if it all disappears before beta, I am still glad I went ahead and tested early.

Are you having any cramping. While not really painful, I have been surprised by the amount of slight cramping that is very distinct, especially since I don't usually get much of any cramping for AF. I rolled over last night and it woke me up because it felt like my pelvic area was all bruised. Super weird.

  • @becca07024411 yes it was PGS normal. But I think that’s why he made the point to me that even euploid embryos have a harder time implanting in older women. In a way the pressure is off. I will be 44 next month and there is nothing I can do to change that, except try to eat healthfully and not stress.

Speaking of not stressing, does anyone have any feedback on bed rest after transfer? My bedroom is upstairs so I was up and down to sleep, eat etc. I work a desk job from home. I wonder if doing stairs was expending too much energy? I’m thinking my RE was referring to the energy of the embryo and not my body so maybe there is nothing I can do on my end but if I can then obviously I want to. Then part of me is wondering and hoping that since both these PGS normals came from the same retrieval that maybe the other one we still have left for this upcoming transfer has the bulk of the “energy” it whatever, maybe was like the dominant one? I feel like a rambling woman here, sorry folks!
  • @becca07024411 I feel like I'm in the exact same boat.. I immediately regretted testing yesterday afternoon but was shocked w/ the results. Naturally excited, but IF brain tells you that so many things can go wrong.
I also have had constant cramping and yesterday was so bad that I considered calling the clinic but finally subsided with heat and tylenol  :s

FX for a great beta on Saturday!

  • @Momifbysea That's great they are letting you move forward with some things! My clinics doesn't do endo scratches, so I'm happy I had the ERA done for that alone. I do know girls that had the ERA and had to move their progesterone timeline and ended up pregnant the next cycle by doing it. So, for the 20% that need it, I do feel it can be beneficial even if most of society doesn't. My gf just posted an article this morning that the endo scratch doesn't help. I guess there's no way to know 100%, but I'm all about trying anything that could possibly help :)

  • @becca07024411 I meant to ask, you mentioned your clinic recommends endo scratch after failed transfer along with a couple other things, do you mind sharing what those are? Also, hoping you have a good beta on Saturday!

@madasm0530 I totally get the doubt of good results or wondering all those what if’s. IF does this to us! Hoping the best for you!
  • @kristimh80 I know, with all of this do we really know yet? I like thinking of all of us as pioneers in a way. Seeing that this year marks 40 years of IVF made me really appreciate all the women who went through this so that we could have all the knowledge we have today! So thankful for this community and those that cane before us.
  • @Momifbysea "Failed Implantation Protocol" at my clinic includes endo scratch, claritin starting 2 days before transfer, pepcid 20mg twice a day starting 2 days before transfer, an sometimes baby aspirin. My RE does acknowledge that some of that is not 100% proven and may only help a portion of people, but since it is cheap, easy, and relatively low risk he is comfortable trying it. Normal protocol only includes prednisone and antibiotics along with estradiol and PIO.
  • @becca07024411 how interesting! I’ve never heard of taking Claritin and Pepcid before transfer. Easy to try like you said! I do always do the baby aspirin.
  • To the ladies testing, my FRER and wondfos has like no progression and I was freaking out but betas we’re always increasing and high.  I mean even when I had a # of like 6500 18dp5dt it wasn’t as dark as control.  I know its hard, but TRY not to use it as a gauge.

  • Congrats on all of the squinters! Fingers crossed for great betas.

@Momifbysea - Definitely don't beat yourself up about not enough rest or too many stairs! My doctor basically said that unless you are doing something unusually strenuous like body-building, there's nothing really you can do to mess up the embryo once it's transferred.

AFM, beta is tomorrow but I tested yesterday and today and I'm getting complete BFN's. Not even a squinter. Maybe my emotional reaction is delayed, but really right now I'm kind of relieved to have this whole journey be over. I already signed up for an adoption seminar and I'm ready to dive into the next steps there. I promised my husband that I wouldn't give away my maternity clothes until after beta tomorrow, but I'm so ready to get rid of them. It's weird, after spending so many years just wanting to be pregnant, but I'm feeling really ok about closing this door. I gave it my best.

Let's see if it hits me later. In the meantime, I'm excited to stick around and see all of your great betas and ultrasounds rolling in.

@kimberlyshae I'm shocked they never offered anything to you as well. I only brought up the ERA because we were at our last embryo and wanted to make sure 100% things were ok. I agree about workout queens right after transfer. I'm supossed to be taking it easy even now, but some other BMB members are in first tri doing crossfit, etc. It's crazy but guess what they are used to.

@becca07024411 - Glad you are seeing a second line!

@Momifbysea - Thank you so much for sharing what you found out from your clinic about ERAs.  I love hearing the latest fertility research.  I am so happy to hear that you have peace of mind and have a solid plan going forward.  I love the way you advocate for yourself.  It is so important!!    Regarding your stairs at home, my clinic advised light activity at home the day of transfer and then resume normal activity the next day.  Every clinic seems to be very different regarding the recommendations but here is an article I found that cites a research study on the matter:  https://www.reproductivemedicineinstitute.com/blog/2013/10/03/believe-it-or-not-medical-134622
What I have read somewhere that makes a lot of sense is that stress can have an impact on success (I don't know if there is research done on this though).  A recommendation I saw somewhere said that to do what makes you less stressed.  For me, if I don't stay active my anxiety level sky rockets so I went for a walk the morning after my transfer.  You were under a lot of emotional stress around the time of your transfer with the loss of your friend which maybe could have had an impact.

@suziev3 - I have not used Wondfos, but I have used other internet cheapies and they took a while to get darker.  I understand not wanting to get your hopes up though.  That is great that your mom is so supportive.  It is nice to have family members involved.

@leilee101 - That is so great that they let you have as many betas as you requested!  I had never even though to ask in the past when I had concerns.

@amy8686 -  Sorry you are getting bfns.  I am very impressed with how well you are dealling with it!  That is so wonderful that you have your plan locked and loaded just in case!

@becca07024411 - Claritin?  I wonder how that helps?  Doesn't Claritin dry you up since it is an antihistamine?  I would think that you would want the opposite... like being extremely hydrated would help blood flow to the uterus.  Hmmmm... I am really curious about this now.

  • @Chrysalis7 okay, forgive me because I am no expert on this and only going by what my doctor briefly mentioned.  It has something to do if you could possibly have implantation failure because of immunological issues. Basically it has to do with histamine receptors and dampening your body's natural immune response to help the embryo implant. I don't know...he recommends it after any failed transfer, so it was worth a shot.

@Momifbysea My doctor also recommends going home, laying down, and generally resting the day of, but after that to resume normal activities within reason. He made sure to strongly clarify that as long as I didn't do anything absolutely crazy, there was really nothing I could do physically to make it not work.  I always see stuff that says to do things to make you relax, but a couple things I read showed studies saying stress can hurt people TTC naturally, but in IVF patients it has shown to not have an impact on success rates (the day after my last FET shit toally hit the fan at work and it was top 3 most stressful days I have had working here, so I went home for lunch to try to relax and Google it, lol)

  • Both studies presented in San Diego including the randomized trial from the group that developed the ERA test found NO benefit from doing ERAs compared to not doing it.
@Momifbysea I am very, very interested in reading more of the data from these studies, as I'm supposed to be gearing up for an ERA with my next cycle. Do you know if it was from this conference: https://cme.ucsd.edu/ivf/agenda.html ?
If you have any additional information about the sessions where this information was presented or where I could look at the data, I would really appreciate it. TIA!

So I had to refill my PIO and they called me back saying they had revised my prescription. I was using 1.5 ml of 50mg/ml vials  they updated it to 100mg/ml, so that means now I only have to do 0.75 ml. Using 25 gauge needles it takes forever to get it all out, so I am so excited to half the volume. I wonder why they didn't just prescribe it like this to begin with?!? Does anyone know of any reason one would be preferred over the other?
  • @becca07024411 Hmm... I'm not sure.  Mine are 50mg/10ml vials and I do 1ml every 3 days.   Do you use the big needle for injection?

  • @becca07024411 If you heat the oil up first, it’ll go faster :-) Maybe your body is making more progeaterone on its own now so you don’t need as much. They will eventually have your completely off it, so who knows...maybe they are weaning you off slowing.

  • @kristimh80 yeah, I use to do that but am generally too impatient to wait for it to heat up. Lol. Its actually the same mg of progesterone, which is 75mg, it is just twice as concentrated, so I only have to take half the volume. Basically like taking one 500mg tylenol vs two 250mg tylenol.

They also order progesterone suppositories for after beta, so maybe that is for future weaning. Or maybe if you need extra. Either way, not excited for those.
  • @becca07024411 oh yuck! I feel for you there! I’d rather do a shot a day than that lol

  • @becca07024411 - That's interesting! I haven't heard of the more concentrated progesterone; it seems like they should just do that all the time.

I don't blame you for not being excited about the suppositories. If you hate them as much as I did, you can definitely just wean with the PIO. That's what I preferred to do.

  • @becca07024411 - Thank you so much for explaining the reasoning behind the Claritin.  That is really interesting and makes sense.
  • I have my beta tomorrow and have had positive hpt for a few days but I had spotting today.  Light brown.  Called my doctor and he wants me to have ultrasound tomorrow as well and switch to PIO.  I thought he was going to tell me not to worry but he didn't and now i'm totally stressing.
  • Hang in there @suziev3! I just said a prayer for you. I’m so glad you’re getting in and that your re is on top of everything!
