August appointments

Re: August appointments

  • @MrsDho11 I'm so sorry you had to go through that for finding the HB, that must have been so stressful. That sounds like a really emotionally draining appointment in general.

Thanks. I’m still kinda emotional about it, and I’m giving myself a hard time over that because, I mean, everything is fine! Stupid hormones!

  • @MrsDho11 I would have cried as well.  Glad everything turned out just fine!
  • @MrsDho11 did you have PE with other pregnancies? I had it with my first and for this pregnancy doctor started me on baby aspirin right away. It has helped and BP has been “normal” so far this time. Something to ask your provider about! Also, during my pregnancy with PE I took a blood pressure medication and BP remained ok until 36 weeks. Hopefully you won’t have PE!
  • @MrsDho11 Ah! What a whirlwind appointment. I would have been bawling through that scary ordeal as well. Also boo to the BP elevation. Hopefully it was a one time thing. My BP is routinely in the 130s/70s at my OB but I guess since that's my 'normal' there it doesn't concern them (I have white coat hypertension).

  • I am doing the Centering Pregnancy group at my OB's office. We had our first appointment this past Monday. It was really fun to meet the other women in my area who are all due in January. Got to hear the baby's heartbeat. And then about 1 hour of discussion about the Centering group and how it was going to run and our first monthly topic - nutrition. Which was OK but I feel like it was pretty basic info that is common sense for anyone who has ever tried to lose weight - (portion control, etc.) It was really nice to get that extra time with the midwives (they run the Centering group) so I am looking forward to next month. Also scheduled my AS but its not until September - very jealous of having it so early!

  • My Dr called and they have reffered me to the MFM. Aty appointment the sonographer said it would be because of the contraction that we saw. But the receptionist was under the impression that it was because of my SCH. So now I don't know what to think and I'm just waiting for the MFM office to call me and schedule my anatomy scan.

Last time I think they decided that I just had pregnancy hypertension and not PE (though I think it’s up for debate as to whether or not those are different things somewhat lately). I ended up being induced at 39 weeks after my OB conversed with a MFM because my BP was cranking up and definitely all over the place, but I never had any bad labs. They do have me taking the baby aspirin just in case— technically I don’t meet the exact requirements for that, but it’s more of a “better safe than sorry” thing. The extra labs next week are also a just in case thing— so they can have a baseline to compare against later in the pregnancy.

I definitely can have a bit of a white coat issue sometimes, but it has generally been good in the lead up to getting KU this time. This wasn’t an alarming raise, but just crossing the threshold to the 130s had me side-eyeing the machine. :D We’ll see what the number looks like in another 4 weeks!

  • @MrsDho11 same. Damn machines. I have also noticed that my BP is always better when a nurse prefers to take my BP the good old fashioned way.

  • I have an appointment on Wednesday! (The 8th). From my original estimates, I would be 16+1, but at my last ultrasound the baby was measuring 9 days behind so I might be more like 14+5 at the appointment. I'm not really sure what we're gonna do on wednesday... I'm hoping for another ultrasound, but if not then I hope we at least get to hear the heartbeat or something. I'd really love an ultrasound though, to see how the baby is measuring now.
  • Had my Wednesday appointment, and it went okay. We got to hear the heartbeat, but other than that it was pretty boring. Doctor said I've lost a few pounds since my last visit, but she said it could be because of first trimester nausea and we used a different scale this time. Either way, now I'm just trying to make sure im eating a lot lol.

Next appointment im supposed to do the quad screening, and then schedule my anatomy scan!
  • @MrsDho11 I had pre eclampsia with my first. So now my blood pressure is always just a little bit high when I get it checked because I’m so nervous about it. Early on my dr suggested using a machine to check my blood pressure at home when I’m relaxed so we know whether it’s consistently elevated. I keep a journal of this and bring it to appointments. It helps tremendously.

  • I have an ultrasound Wednesday. I'm wondering if a) I'll get to see the baby too and b) do I need to have a full bladder?

  • @ladystout08 I always try to have a pretty full bladder before appointments. Mainly because sometimes they ask for urine samples and others the don't (for me I rarely have to). But for our A/S with DD, when she wouldn't get in the position they needed, they had me drink some water to try to help her move around

  • @ladystout08 I'd go in with a full bladder. Easier to release it if you don't need it than to have to drink and wait when you get there (and possibly have to reschedule).

  • @ladystout08 Ditto to what the others have said, plus my U/S tech told me she had to take some photos of my bladder area while it was full, after which she let me go to the bathroom for the rest of the scan. I think there is an actual requirement for a full bladder.
  • Thanks y'all. My appointment is at 9 so I'll likely have at least my coffee and some water in me by then. I can always pee if it's too full.

  • @ladystout08 For sure, and if you feel like you're about to wet yourself before the scan, you can always just go release a little bit - enough that you're not sweating - before your scan. They can see when your bladder reaches its  limit and most have some degree of compassion, haha.
  • So idk why this didn’t dawn on me earlier but a friend of mine is an ultrasound tech at my OB/RE practice but at their other office. I text her and she said they’ll have me empty my bladder before hand and it is transvaginal for the cervical check. She also said they’ll peek at little girl before they start.

Yes! We did this last pregnancy after it started being an issue, and it was usually at least a little better at home. I actually had to email the readings to my OB at the end of every week. I’ve pulled it out already to check a couple times just for piece of mind with a headache, etc., but I haven’t started recording it yet.

im going to add this to my list of questions for my next appointment with my OB though! If/when I need to start doing this again. Thanks for the reminder!

  • Had my 16 wk today. Baby is doing well. I met the new ob in the practice. I liked her, but hated having to go thru the traumatic shit of my birth with DD. This new doc is very focused/concerned about PTSD and birth anxiety. It is better than a doc who minimizes it. However, I just wasn't prepared for a big discussion about  my PTSD and anxiety. All the other docs in the practice know what happened, so I guess I had to bring the new doc up to speed, but I am just exhausted and sort of emotionally fragile after the unexpected discussion.
  • @ladystout i make lists of questions for my appointments.
  • @luckymay2x that’s so tough. I had to surprise talk about my PPD at the end of my last appointment and it definitely threw me and left me emotionally exhausted. I hope you’re able to get some rest tonight and wake up feeling better tomorrow.
