@Activebaby I think that is a routine aspect of all prenatal care bc they are supposed to counsel us on weight gain (the right amount/not too much). It’s not just about billing, but standards of care — the stuff they have to address with every pregnant woman. I wouldn't interpret it as being specifically about you or your weight, though I know weight is a super touchy subject and any reference can be triggering.
Thanks, everyone for your encouragement! Overall, all appointments went well:
1. Cleft clinic - the nurse gave us a whole binder of information to read. The specific treatment won't be known until the baby is born, but basically we don't need to worry about anything else for now (we get an extra ultrasound at 28 weeks to make sure amnio fluid levels are still normal, but that's about it). We will meet with them again after the baby is born. It's all very organized and they have a whole team to take care of you. They even have a program (through donations) where they lend mothers with cleft babies a hospital grade breast pump for free for the first three months, which is pretty awesome.
2. Fetal echo - basically a fancy ultrasound that concentrates on the heart. Baby didn't cooperate and it was very difficult to get all the right pictures. To try to get her to flip, they had me doing downward dog (didn't work), and lay on my side (that worked). One artery to the lungs was very hard to see because the baby's spine was in the way, so they couldn't actually get a picture but the tech brought two doctors into the room, they saw it, and said everything looked great. Hooray! That took an hour and a half.. Stubborn baby..
3. Mat clinic doctor basically said she has no concerns and we are all set. They just have an extra respiratory tech during birth in case baby has trouble breathing.I think that's related to one of the syndromes that can occur with cleft, but from what I gather they are not expecting anything like that.
@ab_canada what great news! Except that baby was stubborn maybe that's a good thing too, though. Sounds like you definitely have the right group of doctors looking out for you and baby.
@ab_canada so glad to hear you got so much info today and that there is a great plan in place to take care of your lo! Hope you can relax a bit now and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy! And thanks for the echo info!
@scaredunprepared@morgantu@maureenmce@rosebud332 Thanks, ladies. Yes, we feel very lucky to have the support from the medical system. I am a planner and the "unknowns" make me anxious, so it's nice to be able to have as many answers as possible, even though many of them are still unknown until the baby is born and even some time into the future.
ive got my a/s on Friday. Really struggling with whether to tell the kids the sex. DD is dying to know, but we were going to make it be a surprise. I’m so torn.
@runrinserepeat Maybe you can do a mini reveal with just the kids? With colored cupcakes or something like that. It would be a fun way for them to find out.
@runrinserepeat how old are your kids? We told our 2.5 year old and didn’t do anything special because we figured she wouldn’t really care. We were wrong. She cried it wasn’t a girl. She tell people it’s a girl and when I correct her she still gets a sad look. It’s been 3 weeks. I am pretty sure My body will not allow for a third pregnancy but darn it put me on a list we need a second baby girl!!!
@LLynde5 they’re 4 and 6. They both want it to be a boy but they’re old enough that They won’t be disappointed, it’s just a matter of whether we keep it a surprise for not.
I had my 16 week appointment today, went well. It took FOREVER to find the heartbeat, and I was starting to freak. She said she would try a but longer, and if we can't find it, we would be doing an ultrasound today. She finally found it. Apparently this LO likes to snuggle WAY back on my spine. Haha. HB was in the 150's. I opted out of the quad screening. We didn't do it with our first, and it's not like the results would make a difference. Plus, if they see anything on during the anatomy scan, we can choose to do screenings then.
I have my anatomy scan in 3 weeks. Can't wait for that one!
18 week appointment today. First time using the doppler. She found his heartbeat right away. Strong around 150. Got AFP blood work done and referred to a podiatrist for my aching feet. Made appointments for the rest of the pregnancy and Dr confirmed I will be having a csection at 37 weeks.

@Jens_Hoes I had an invasive uterine surgery to remove large fibroids a few years ago. The fear is that I would go into labor early and then at a high risk for uterine rupture.
@lexidawg Ouch! Even the word "rupture" just creeps me out.

I’m glad everyone’s appointments are going well! @lexidawg I am also curious as to how they decided on 37 weeks. If I have a repeat c-section, I was told I couldn’t schedule any earlier than 39 weeks. I was hoping for like 38 weeks and a few days because 39 weeks is Christmas Eve.
@echo-charlietango Me too! I was trying to convince the doc to wait until 38+ weeks. She said we can do 37+ a few days but really recommends not more than that.
@katy0990 I would think it would be because you aren't at risk if you go into labor prior. They would just do the csection. With me... the risk is actual laboring. But that is my guess.
@ab_canada glad your appointments went well! Sounds like you have great support within your hospital system! I'm such a planner too so it's hard to accept there are things you can't fully plan for.
@Whitmore1027 I'm glad they were able to find baby's heartbeat. That would have totally stressed me out!
@lexidawg glad you had a good appointment! Did you pick your C-section date already?
Ultrasound yesterday at 20 weeks and everything looked good and normal. That was definitely relieving since many of my friends have had odd things show up on their ultrasounds which caused them unnecessary worrying in the end. Baby didn't cooperate for most of it so we didn't get a good profile picture. Oddly enough they gave me a CD of the ultrasound pics not print out, my DH was not happy about this lol.
