18 week appointment with my OB Thursday. I will be AFP blood work done. I also need to talk to her about my planter fasciitis that is making me miserable and to discuss my low placenta.
Anatomy scan is first thing in the morning tomorrow!! 8am!! Hoping to find the scan at 13 weeks was wrong and baby is actually a girl, but I'm just excited to take DS so he can see baby too!
I have my appointment with the MFM doctors tomorrow morning to check out my cervix. Trying not to be nervous but let's be honest - I'm freakin nervous.
Good luck everyone with appointments this week. I'm I'm a lull until AS Aug 6th. Such a long wait for me! But can't wait to hear how everyone else's appointments go. Hopefully good news all around
Good luck everyone with your A/S and appointments this week!
I have 3 appointments tomorrow:
Meeting with a nurse at the cleft clinic to find out the basics (sleeping, feeding methods, hopefully an idea of potential treatment, etc). I am looking forward to this one because I have many questions, including whether there is a chance I will be able to breastfeed since baby girl has such a small palate issue (FX) and if she can possibly sleep on her back, since I had my heart set on having a bassinet by our bed.
Fetal echo - just a precaution and hopefully everything is looking/sounding great.
Regular mat clinic appointment - with all the news we've gotten in the last week or two, I am looking forward to hearing what my doctor has to say.
Well, baby was super uncooperative at our anatomy scan this morning!! We got zero profile shots, best I have is the creepy looking skull shots from the front where you see the eye orbits lol. But it was confirmed that babynis DEFINITELY a boy!! He did give us a good view of that!
@CecilB93, I know you were hoping that baby would be a girl, but at least now you know for sure! I was so convinced that ours was a girl before we got our NIPT results back, and had all these semi-embarrassing fantasies of mommy-and-me matching outfits (I KNOW, I know), and braiding hair, and girl talks etc. etc. But after the initial letdown (and realizing that I had zero "mother's intuition" on the gender), once we knew it was a boy, I started to see all the positives. Like your son is going to have a brother! I know my brother feels he missed out on something by only having sisters, so it's awesome your little guy will have that brother bond.
@ab_canada I’m glad you’ll have a chance to ask all the questions you have! @CecilB93 boys are great. Mine wouldn’t give me a good face or profile view. I got a little view but he was not interested. i have my monthly/20 week appt tomorrow. I assume it will be fast and a quick Doppler. That’s fine with me. I actually have gained weight since my last appointment, which is positive since that’s what I’m supposed to be doing
@ab_canada good luck with all those appointments tomorrow, hope you get some answers that let you plan for when baby is on this side. If you wouldn't mind, will you come back and especially report on your echo? I have one in a few weeks and no idea what to expect. Someone else does too... I wanna say @prudence9-2? Tia!
@CecilB93 Ours was the exact same way last week. Hiding his face in his hands, but full frontal shots of the crotch.
Just got back from my MFM appointment. Cervix is still funneling and the closed portion is only about 1.2cm which is... not good. The doctors put in a pessary, which is a silicone ring that goes around the outside of the cervix (they are usually used for uterine prolapse in old ladies) and should help hold everything shut. If everything holds it'll come out at around 36 weeks (I'm 21 now). It took him three tries to get the damn thing in place because my cervix is tilted. Poor H had to sit there and watch me writhe and yelp in pain on the table for 10-15 minutes.
I'm also on progesterone suppositories until further notice.
I'll be on pelvic rest for the rest of the pregnancy, which sucks a lot. But if it keeps any more complications away, we'll manage. Also have to just take it easy in general, but no bed rest or anything.
Doc seems confident that this should help significantly. I'll be going back weekly for tv ultrasounds to monitor everything. If it doesn't hold by 24 weeks I'll have to get a cerclage, which is invasive and sounds horrid.
On a positive note, baby looks perfect and we got some good profile shots, which he wouldn't give up last week.
I hope everyone's anatomy scans and other appointments go perfectly!!
@deutschmama thanks my son is actually still in denial himself, I think he REALLY wanted a sister. We told our parents by taking a video of him saying baby brother, but it took 10 tries because he kept saying sister!!
@binxybaby pretty much!! He was not ashamed of that part lol
@hkom I'm sorry you are having issues with your cervix. Hopefully the pessary does its job and you can avoid the cerclage!
AFM, I get to live vicariously through all of you...my A/S is on 8/7 because my doc is on vacation the week before when I would have normally scheduled. Boooo.
@gingersnap-mama Yeah I had never heard of it before, but I looked it up when I got home and it's definitely a thing! If I remember correctly, he said they had only been using them for this purpose for maybe 7 years? So it's fairly recent. I appreciate that he wanted to try it instead of going all the way with the cerclage. Hopefully it holds up.
@hkom Holy cow, I'm sorry you're on pelvic rest for the entire rest of pregnancy! I really hope the ring works and they don't have to do a cerclage! Thinking of you and sending good vibes your way!
@hkom I'm so sorry! I can imagine that would have been painful. Now that it's there, can you feel it? Is it uncomfortable? Prayers that it does it's job and you don't have to take further action.
@texas_t It was quite painful going in, but not as painful as getting an IUD inserted several years ago. It was worse than it should have been because the first one he tried was just a little too small, so he had to try to cram it on there and then get it off when it wouldn't fit right, which was by far the worst part. It felt like he was going to yank everything out of me. When he tried the next size up it wasn't terrible placing it, just uncomfortable. Right now I'm a little sore and crampy just from the whole process, but I can't feel the actual device at all!
@hkom bummer about the pelvic rest. Hoping along with everyone else that the pessary and progesterone do their job and no further interventions are needed. Think happy thoughts! Rest up and take this time to get pampered and spoiled
@ab_canada glad you can get your questions answered and put your mind at ease a bit.
@hkom I’m glad to hear baby is looking great, and hopefully the pessary does the trick. Sorry about the pelvic rest and all the extra atress.
@ab_canada I’m glad you get to talk about all the questions you have so you can plan ahead. Good luck with your visits tomorrow!
Excited for all you ladies doing your A/S this week. Mine is 7/31 so a little longer to wait. I’m planning to bring Poppy along so she can see her little sister.
I have a follow-up anatomy scan on Wed because my first was kind of early and they couldn't see everything they wanted good enough. I'm happy to oblige!
had an appointment Friday and out little ones heart sounded great at 130 - doctor said her guess based on old wise tales is boy!!! anatomy scan scheduled for August 17th with a reveal planned for August 25!!! it's going to be hard to wait that extra week but it's my goal!!!
A/S complete! They got almost all the measurements (couldn't get some on the spine, will try again in 3 weeks when we go in for fetal echo). Apparently I am gestating a hulk baby. The sonographer was like, wow, those are some long limbs. Then said the baby was 15oz and normal for this time is like 8 lololol. But later the Dr mentioned that ultrasounds can be way off with weight, so nbd. But all seems well, so I'll take It!
@jesssimbeck dr said today my baby’s heart rate was around 130’s, then sped up a little. I’m having a boy for what it’s worth Also I gained a little weight since my last appointment. I knew I had - I weigh myself almost daily. It’s part of my routine since it’s my Alta2 and it uploads with my Fitbit. I wasn’t concerned, but she mentioned it and said to be aware of how much/quickly I gain. She’s a friend of mine so I know that was probably awkward for her to tell me. I’m basically just over my pre-pregnancy weight and I’m still exercising so for today I’m okay with it. But now I’m self conscious! She’s a super nice doctor. Ugh...weight is such a sensitive subject. I think it’s bothering me because I saw on my last doctor’s records during my last pregnancy they had documented that they counseled me on weight every visit. I know that is part of billing documentation but I still didn’t like it - I’m pregnant - I’m supposed to gain weight!
@Activebaby I think that is a routine aspect of all prenatal care bc they are supposed to counsel us on weight gain (the right amount/not too much). It’s not just about billing, but standards of care — the stuff they have to address with every pregnant woman. I wouldn't interpret it as being specifically about you or your weight, though I know weight is a super touchy subject and any reference can be triggering.
