Also, how do you feel about resigning
  • @Jens_Hoes Yay! Thanks! I’m glad they followed through!
As far as my feelings about resigning, I’m part excited and part terrified. I feel less guilt and worry about leaving DS and about the transition from one to two. Last summer, I felt a lot of anxiety because I was constantly counrimg out how many days I had left with DS before school started and trying to cram in as much as possible. This year I feel much more at peace because there is no time limit. However, financially we will be cutting it close, which worries me. MH has been very supportive, but he will be picking up rxtra on calls and working a bit more to make up for some of the loss of income and I don’t want that to impact our relationship.
Overall, I think it is definitely the best thing for our family right now.  I never would have had the guts to walk away, if it was not for the fact that i has been told in May that I was losing my job. That really got us thinking and crunching numbers and then with all the headaches, drama, and back and forth, it just seemed like all the roadblocks had to be telling me something.

@snugglyduckling25 Awesome! I offered to help with VBS at my church, well apparently they took it to mean I wanted to teach my own class, which I have NEVER done before. I can't take any time off work for it either, so VBS week is going to be JAM PACKED for me. I haven't even had time to review the whole teacher packet yet. I am so stressed about it. I wish I never offered to help.

@katy0990 That's great!! I hope you enjoy your year off and subbing when you can. DH had off work yesterday so I suggested he take DS to build a bear. By like 9:00am the lines were already half way through the malls. That's insane. It's a free teddy bear! It's not like they're THAT expensive to begin with. I'd much rather not wait in an insanely long line with the toddler. I heard they have the same deal on birthdays? Plus he coupon they issued, which was awesome of them.

  • @Erinka I 100% agree. I am debating scheduling a repeat c-section, so I can ensure everything falls on the same deductible and OOP.
@Whitmore1027 What ended up happening with your dog? I hope all is well!
@PensiveCrayon Hope you enjoy the rest of your kid free trip! It will be so nice to see him when you return!
  • @mcgeeva oh my goodness, I would be so upset if that happened to one of my kiddos. I’m also a boy mom (x3, soon to be 4) and no way would I say boys will be boys. Yes, my boys wrestle and fight and it always ends up in someone getting hurt and I think that is just boys being boys. (I cannot figure out for the life of me why wrestling around is fun, but whatever). But intentionally choking and pushing someone - no way, that is unacceptable behavior. When my boys intentionally hurt each other hitting or kicking out of anger - that gets them in trouble for sure! My oldest will be in 4th grade next year - I’m terrified that middle school is just around the corner! I’d much rather keep them as little tiny beings who need me for everything if it protects them from the world. That sounds way easier!

@AdorkablePixie oh no! Our VBS is called Sports Camp and the teaching is all done from the stage and then we split up into our sports where we can kind of weave what they are learning into the day. And I don’t have to know anything about the sport either - they have coaches for that. So I’m just there to keep a group of kids safe, encourage them, etc. It’s still exhausting, but not nearly as intimidating! Last year was the first week I took off work and I probably look forward to it as much as my kids do.  :)
  • @snugglyduckling25 oh don't get me wrong mine wrestle as well and would also get in trouble if they hurt someone. And if someone get's hurt and you continue to hurt someone - no go here. But choking I made him show me because I didn't think he knew what it was but he was right and he said he dropped his milk and started crying. So unacceptable. Ugh...I can't imagine. I'm 11 months younger then my brother and was basically the older sister always defending him. He always got picked on so now having kids of my own good lord help me.

  • @PensiveCrayon I don't know why they'd just assume we want to teach a class! I think they were so short for volunteers they made the decision for me. The good thing about not having your little with you is that you'll look forward to going back home!

@snugglyduckling25 Ours is sports themed too! Definitely not set up the same though.

@AGK2015 Oh my gosh!! I hope she didn't hurt herself.

  • @katy0990 Thanks for checking in! That's so sweet. He ended up swallowing another squeaker, which is super weird, because after the first time he swallowed one back in March, we stopped buying any toys with them. This squeaker was twice as big as the first one. So he had to have surgery. He is recovering okay, but still isn't as interesting in food and we have had to do some trail and error with foods. But otherwise he is good. Just a reminder how expensive dogs can be and how emergencies can happen anytime. We have had to pay over $2600 for  the 2 surgeries since March. Money that reeeaallly needs to go to my OB and for preparing for baby. <cries>

  • @Whitmore1027 professional photographer here (my husband owns a wedding photography business)…we exclusively shoot in manual and manual is so much fun. Happy to help answer any questions you might have about photography businesses (as much as I’m able).  Also, I second pet insurance…so worth it.

@hoosiermama-2 good for you for asking for asking for 16 weeks paid, I hope they give it to you!  With my son (2 years ago) I got paid 80% of my pay for 12 weeks.  My company has since changed their policy that all parents (women and men) get 100% pay for 16 weeks. So naturally, I’m going to bank up my vacation and take longer, ha!

@Erinka I second being pissed if baby comes in January purely based on deductibles!

@katy0990 build a bear is offering a $15 off coupon if you sign up for their account online. I think it needs to be redeemed by the end of August.

How far along are you? How big is baby?
17+1, as big as a pomegranate

How old is/are you other spawn?
Son is 2 yrs. 2 months.

Nails and fails from this week:
    Nails-made a perfect cheese soufflé
Fails-my kitchen is cleaned…the rest of my house looks like it’s in shambles. And I don’t really have an excuse since I was on vacation last week.

    Rant/Rave/Dear Diary:
Rant-my ultrasound seems like it is way too far away and I’m extremely impatient.

GTKY: If you could instantly become an expert at one thing, what would it be?
Same as @Jens_Hoes, I love to cook but definitely need recipes. I would love to be creative and just whip things up.

  • @mschill22 Wedding photography is awesome! I would never be able to do that, it takes strong people to deal with brides! But it's on my bucket list to one day be a second shooter! I actually started my pet photography business last summer. Got all my marketing together, my contracts, my portfolio and everything. And as soon as I started to get it really going...my camera crapped out on me. It's OLD Nikon D3100. It was doing so well for me. Then something went wrong with what I believe to be a light sensor inside. My exposure would be crazy over or under no matter my settings. I never got it fixed because the camera is so old, I didn't think the cost to fix it would be worth it. And I hadn't made enough extra income to actually buy a new camera. So, at this point my "business" is on hold. I hope to be able to buy another camera after this baby comes and get it back up and going again. I loooove it so much! I even volunteered for a rescue to take photos of their doggies and that got me some clients. I don't do credit cards or debt anymore, so I have to do this all a little at a time. I miss photography sooo much!! It's just so much fun!!

  • @Whitmore1027 Nikon is really good about servicing their cameras (even if they are out of warranty). We have sent some in for maintenance and they’ve covered it (just my experience...not sure if that’s typical). What camera would you be looking at if you were to buy another?
  • @Whitmore1027 I am glad he is doing well, but sorry about the bill. That is crazy expensive!

@mschill22 I got the coupon, too. Thanks!
  • @mschill22 It's worth a try to check out! I don't really have any paperwork from when I bought the camera though. I bought it many years ago before I ever decided to try to go professional. If I was to get a new camera, I would stick with Nikon since I have a few prime lenses, and I wouldn't want to buy a bunch a new ones (like if I switched to Canon). I was thinking the D750 if I could ever afford it. Or if I needed to start with a lower priced camera, I would go D7200. Those are on my wish list right now! Haha! What cameras do you recommend?

@katy0990 Yeah, each surgery with everything (xrays, meds and all) have been approx. $1400 each. But I am glad he is okay! Plus, the vet worked well with us to let us pay over 3 months. I had to shop around to different vets, and most wanted us to get a credit card (care credit), and I said NO WAY. I don't do credit cards. haha. So, this vet got our business and I am sure they are happy they worked with us! They have even offered to neuter him for free since we haven't gotten that done yet.

  • Mamas who use a video monitor - have you considered what you're going to do this time around? Are you going to buy a new, seperate set for their room? Or are there two-camera options that you can split between rooms, using one monitor? I suppose that could work with a Nest system - but that sounds pricey af.
  • @hoosiermama-2 We have the Yi Home camera, which connects to an app and isn’t like a traditional monitor (but it does have baby crying and movement alerts, so it’s definitely intended to be used as one). We actually have two cameras for my sons’s room — they’re fairly inexpensive — so I’ll be switching one over to the new baby’s sleeping space. From the app I can choose which space to look at!

@mschill22 That is great that so much leave was covered the first time and even more this time!! Where do you work? I need to change jobs. LOL jk jk

  • @hoosiermama-2 My son got a hold of our current monitor and threw it down too many times, so it doesn't work well. Haha. I had planned on just buying another set, then my husband said we should get the two camera options so we can have one at each baby, and I was like....genius! I hadn't thought of that! Haha. So we plan on buying a monitor with two cameras. I will NOT get any wifi one though, too many stories of sick people hacking those things.

  • @hoosiermama-2 we have the infant optics and I am planning on buying the second camera soon
  • Ooohhh! We also have the Infant Optics! I forgot about the additional cameras. I assume you can just toggle between them with the same monitor then? Do you know?
  • @hoosiermama-2 I've read that you can, and you can add up to four cameras.  I believe you can choose to toggle between them or have it on "scan mode" where it changes cameras every 5-10 seconds because obviously you cannot hear what is going on with one camera while looking at another.
  • I have infant optics too and forgot you can get two cameras! Hooray!
