I love the baby sea otter comparison LOL. Thanks! Can I just go ahead and bitch with everyone else that I am SO TIRED OF BEING SICK. Tired of being nauseous 99% of the time, tired of all food sounding awful, tired of every smell making me want to yarf.
We're going to Pittsburgh for DH's birthday this weekend. I just can't wait for it to be over and be home. We've been gone 3/4 weekends and I just want to spend some time at home and do nothing.
Oh, and our house doesn't have central A/C, We have a couple of window units. It was so hot last night that if we ran both upstairs it tripped a breaker so we had to turn ours on and close off the other rooms. DH and DS slept on the couch by the A/C downstairs and I slept in our room. Looks like next summer we're getting central put in.
You guys. I just did the most on this board in the last half hour. Created MBF thread and edited after realizing it was already created earlier. Edited and made it into a weekly randoms then realized it was also created earlier today.
Y’all got this board covered today and I apparently can’t keep up.
H and I watched the new Jumanji last night, I really enjoyed it. I haven't really been enjoying movies that much. I'm more into TV because you get to know the characters better. You become more invested. But I really really enjoyed Jumanji. Jack Black was absolutely hilarious. I highly recommend it
@galactickates yeah this is our last weekend away for the foreseeable future, thank goodness. Next weekend I want to finish cleaning out the spare room so I can get estimates on having it re-done but that's basically it.
Last night DS was crawling all over me and kept hitting my sore boobs. I said, “Ow, my boobs!” He said, “Boobs? My boobs?” and pointed to his chest. I then explained to him that mama has boobs, but he doesn’t and daddy doesn’t.
He then pointed to inanimate objects in his room and said, “Chair? No boobs. Lamp? No boobs.” etc. We FaceTimed DH later in the evening, and the first thing DS said to him was, “Daddy has no boobs!”
Married: May 2012 DS1: May 2016 DS2: Jan 2019 Baby #3 EDD: 6/18/24
Taking DD to visit my family tomorrow. DH is using his limited time off later this summer when we go visit his family, so he gets some kid free time this week. He is single parenting for like a total of 5 weeks this year while I travel for work, so I wanted to give him a little break
DH was right. It was a bad idea to do boot camp in our no-AC gym on this 90+ degree day. See you guys after I vomit and get my HR back down below OMFG HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE.
So today TB says my baby is as big as a scoop of ice cream. And tomorrow (week 13) it’s going to be a lemon.... I don’t know about y’all, but when I dish out my ice cream, I make my scoops BIG!!
ok so.... can I breach the subject of weight gain? I'm sure everyone else is just doing SO great, but I've already gained 6lbs. I'm so sick and eating is the only thing that helps, but I don't even want to eat. It feels so unfair... What are you guys doing to to not gain weight too quickly?
@wkuandrea I'm too afraid to step on the scale. I've been eating constantly just to keep the nausea at bay, and I know I'm bound to have put on a few pounds from that alone. Honestly, I just try to make sure I eat healthy foods and try not to worry about the weight. I watched what I ate and was very active with my last pregnancy and ended up gaining 40+ pounds anyway.
I need to watch the new Jumanji. DS watched it with his grandparents and loves it. I always think Jack Black is hilarious.
@wkuandrea huh, I have gained ~5 lbs (for reference I'm 13+6) and my tracking apps and midwives don't seem to think that is "too much too fast" and in the normal range. I don't think 6 lbs is anything to be super alarmed about but I'm a FTM so I don't have anything else to compare to. FWIW my diet was pretty bad and I was completely out of the gym for the first 12 weeks just to try and keep nausea at bay but for the last couple of weeks I have really been able to clean my eating back up to pre-pregnancy standards and get back in a work out groove so hopefully you're not too far away from relief as well.
@wkuandrea I just got the, "Here's how much weight we want you to gain during your pregnancy" from my OB. She then proceeded to show me the weight gain chart and how I needed to bring it back in with the curve. I've gained six pounds, and under normal circumstances I am the healthiest eater I know. Eating everything in sight is what's helping my nausea. Once things get back to normal, I will get back to my normal eating.
I gained 50 lbs with my daughter, and I gained all of it in my butt and thighs. With breastfeeding only, I lost all but 5 lbs in 4 months. According to the lactation consultant, my daughter consumed the second highest amount of milk she had ever seen a newborn consume. It was lucky for me because it seems like the fat transferred straight from my thighs to hers (she was very chubby).
I tend to get most of my carbs from fruit and veggies and naturally avoid wheat because gluten makes my stomach hurt and refined corn just isnt that great for you (though I eat it once in a while). I ate mass amounts of protein with my daughter and when I had her, the doc and pediatrician made comments about how thick her umbilical cord was (thanks to the protein).
All that to say, make the best choices you can make, and unless you have diabetes, the only real concern with gaining too much weight in pregnancy is that it will be harder to get the weight off later. My last doctor never even mentioned my weight gain one time. Not gaining enough weight is far more detrimental to baby.
Edit: apparently it cut off a huge portion of my comment, so adding it back in.
On the subject of weight... A large part of this is that if you gain too much, you could end up with a really big baby (complications), gain too little and risk an underweight baby... But in the end, this isn't an exact science. What one woman gains might not be at all what another woman gains. Avoid junk food like chips and fast food. Munching on plain popcorn can really help with nausea, and it's high in fibre, so it'll help keep nausea down, limit weight gain, and help you stay regular. A baked potato (not fully loaded) can also be a huge nausea helper. I'll admit that I really got glued to bread for a while, because it always settled my stomach.... But my thighs now rub together, and it's probably because of the bread. Avoid that stuff. I've gained around 5 lbs in the first trimester, but now that the nausea is abating, I'm able to eat much more normal meals (complete with a vegetable! Haha).
@wkuandrea I also recommend low carb but when MS was bad, that went out the window for me. I’ve finally been able to start eating healthy again (since about 10w, and I’m 13w tomorrow).
They say a weight gain of 3-5lb is normal in first trimester. So I wouldn’t give yourself too much grief over 6lb.
Especially if you’ve been loading up on carbs to help with MS. Carbs hold water like crazy. One time after an endurance athletic fundraiser, I gained 10lbs in water weight just from carb-loading the 2 days after.
@amongthewildflowers they haven't fussed at me yet, but they definitely talked about what they wanted me to gain since I started out overweight (I'm sure a lot of people do). Hopefully they had helpful suggestions on how to actually do that!
@KLS123 I think that's probably within range. My goal is to stay around 20lbs total since I'm already overweight and have high blood pressure (that's generally well managed and unrelated to weight)... but I know how much weight they say you're gaining towards the end. I'm a FTM as well. Fingers crossed that feeling better is right around the corner and that I can get back to the gym soon!
@pttomato I feel like if I eliminated carbs I'd be underweight in no time You're a saint for sticking to that diet, especially during that nauseous first tri!
Thanks to all for the encouragement. I feel like I'm really not eating that much or too terribly, so I'm frustrated that I really only have 14lbs to gain for the rest of the pregnancy
I must have the wrong brand of maternity pants. I've heard so many people say how comfy they are...but they are saggy in the crotch and I feel like I have to pull them up constantly, on top of all of them being just a little too short in length. None of my leggings fit and I might resort to long dresses but I hate my skin touching and I'm pretty strictly a jeans and t shirt kind of girl. Who has a good brand?
RE weight gain - I wouldn't sweat over 6 lbs. Im surprised your doctor took it so seriously that they actually broke out the weight chart. That would probably piss me off, tbh.
My first pregnancy I was sick and had horrible aversions so every eating occasion was a struggle. I gained the bare minimum and was miserable.
This time I'm much less sick and eating more. I've gained about 5 lbs at 10 weeks 2 days. I'm trying not to stress too much about the scale and focus on healthy food choices. I honestly do bot believe we have a huge amount of control over how much weight we gain during pregnancy, as long as you don't go crazy and really over eat.
@molosmiles maybe you’re not quite big enough for full panel pants? I have a bit of a belly, but I tried on a pair of full panel pants the other day and they were too saggy for now.
Married: May 2012 DS1: May 2016 DS2: Jan 2019 Baby #3 EDD: 6/18/24
I have a pair of Jessica Simpson pants and they are definitely better than the motherhood maternity. These pants are what I had my last pregnancy so I know they will get a little more comfortable into the second trip then get more uncomfortable as my belly gets too big for them but the saggy crotch never ends.
I’m wearing non-maternity jeggings today. They fit fine this morning. I ate some cake at the work potluck and ohhhhh, so much regret. The pants are so tight now. I’m contemplating taking them off in the car when I start driving home
Married: May 2012 DS1: May 2016 DS2: Jan 2019 Baby #3 EDD: 6/18/24
I couldn't button my non maternity pants starting at 10 weeks...so hair ties and belly bands until I couldn't take it any longer. My pants were way too damn tight.
I’ve already gained 10 lbs (11+2)! I attribute it to getting pregnant before DD2 turned one (so two babies in two years) and the fact that I lost a ton of weight before getting pregnant. I’ve also been eating like crap because of feeling nauseous and not walking because of being tired, hopefully I’ll start feeling better in the next couple of weeks and it’ll get better.
The full panel maternity pants pants have never been comfortable for me and I’m always pulling them up. Last time I got a pair of the side panel and they are amazing!
@wkuandrea 6lbs does not seem like anything out of the ordinary to me! That's where I'm at too (12+4 now) and no one has said anything. Especially since some of it could be water/bloating, it's super hard to say.
Some people gain more in the beginning and then stabilize for awhile. That happened to my mom, and she only gained 20lbs total. Sometimes the hormones just cause quick bloating and water retention, and there's little you can do.
At this point, I'd just not worry about it too much since the goal of the first tri is just to get through it, especially if your nausea is bad. I know it can be so discouraging though to see the scale go up though! And the bloat can make it seem worse! If you want to keep the gain at bay though, Myfitnesspal is great (just to get an idea of how many calories you're taking in) and focusing on whole, unprocessed foods with enough protein and vegetables. And drinking tons of water, which will also reduce the bloat. At least 2L per day, and 3L is better.
Sounds like you're doing great though and figuring out how to manage your nausea! Keep your head up, it'll get better!
My sister gave me a pair of her old maternity jeans from ASOS and they are amazing! They don't stretch out at all. The motherhood maternity shorts I got sag out with in a few hours.
I am really hoping my scatterbrained husband can get his shit together before the baby comes. We're getting work done on the interior of our condo right now, so we keep our cats locked up so they don't get in the way. We had decided on keeping them in the office, but after I already left for work H made an executive decision to keep them in our bedroom. Totally fine, but I came home after work, let them out, and realized 1. He left them in this room on a 100 degree day without turning on the AC , the overhead fan, or even opening a window for the poor kitties. 2. HE DIDNT PUT A LITTER BOX IN THE ROOM. I need to start investigating whether they peed somewhere in our room or if they just have really strong bladders and I am SO not happy about it.
RE: weight gain. When I go to either the OB or Maternal and Fetal Medicine, I ask the nurses to NOT tell me my weight I weigh myself at home in the morning. One week I gained four pounds, this week I lost the four pounds. It's all water weight. I figure that if the docs are worried about my weight, they will tell me.
This will be our last baby. I will be 40 a couple of months after delivery. I want to get back into shape and enjoy my 40s.
I forgot to add in that I went to Old Navy last week to take advantage of a sale and was shocked to find out that the store no longer carries maternity clothes in-store. WTH? Then I went to Target and the selection was terrible. All jeans. No business professional attire. Total let down.
@wkuandrea Trust me, I would not stick to it if I didn’t have to. I also agree that weight gain during pregnancy is kind unpredictable, some people just seem to gain more easily than others. I only pay attention to it because of my diabetes, otherwise I don’t think it’s worth stressing about too much.
@CoastieGirl79 yes to both! I was CRUSHED that Old Navy didn’t carry in store anymore and before KU the maternity at Target looked okay... its not Based on above I might try ASOS since I have to order online anyhow (or shop at Motherhood).
@CoastieGirl79 exact same thing happened to me the other day at Old Navy. I ended up ordering some shorts online since all Target had was jean shorts. Ugh. I don’t want Jean shorts when pregnant!
