Re: Weekly Appointments 7/2
My big question for my OB is when I should restrict out of town visitors (traveling via airplane, staying in our home) who opt out of the flu shot. Wondering if mid Sept will be permitted.
I have an appointment on Friday that I'm super excited for. It's not an ultrasound appointment but the OB will finally write me a prescription for something for my sickness.
I am concerned because I don't think I'm gaining enough due to being sick.
I will also need to talk to OB about any child preparation classes in the area because the hospital where I'm delivering doesn't have any available.
I'll be mentioning my bouts of lightheadedness and nearly nightly rounds of BH contractions. It's probably normal pregnancy stuff but might as well mention it. I'll also be asking when they'll be checking my iron levels again, where he wants them to be, and what the plan will be if my levels don't rise enough before delivery.
I'll be asking our families to get the flu shot (and tdap if they are due for one). This should be fun to "argue" with my ILs >.<
Anyway, I hope the flu shot is available by then! Last year, we got our flu shots before IVF and I'm certain it was the first week of September. I started seeing ads at the CVS on 34th and 3rd in late August.
I have an appointment on Friday for a routine check and my TDAP, also hoping to hear about my GD test today or tomorrow.
We’ll also be asking everyone that visits to get the flu and TDAP. I expect some push back from my aunt who thinks vaccines cause autism, but we’re holding firm with that rule.
Had my 30 week appointment today. Dr said everything was measuring right on track and baby has his head resting on my bladder. I knew there was some large part there based on my need to pee every 30 minutes, but it’s good to know it’s his head, not his butt.
Regarding the flu shot, dd was a January baby and diagnosed w cf by 10 days old. Fil refused to get a flu shot and avoided seeing dd for the first few months of her life. He never spoke to us about the topic, his mother gave him an awful hard time about it. He hand wrote an odd little story book and mailed it to dd in leu of visiting? We would have let him visit, as long as he was coming from home (not straight from one of his teen event things). we were more concerned with people who would be around a ton. As it turned out, no one dared visit or help, so it ended up not being an issue except w fil because we didn’t know that was why he wasn’t coming around.

Daughter #2 - Oct 2014
Daughter #3 - Nov 2016
Baby #4 - Sept 2018
Reason for appointment: 28 week appoinment, ultrasound and glucose test
Concerns / How did it go: all is good! Passed the glucose test, have a mild mild iron deficiency and baby is growing on track (very average!). I have decided I prefer the lemon lime glucola to the orange.
Questions: not now but I’m sure I’ll have them later lol. We are on every two weeks now
**all said assuming no medical concerns that would require more attention to this

Tdap tho, yes, if it's not up to date, I have already started to spread the word. And of course all the common sense, if you're not feeling well or have reason to think you may have been exposed to a sick person, please don't hold / come over to visit the baby.
As far as guests, DD1 was an August baby, and we asked the people who would be helping care for her to get TDAP and the flu shot, but I for sure don't worry about other visitors. Wash their hands, yes. Stay away if they've been sick, yes. We didn't let random people touch her at church and other places.
We don't have anyone who would stay in our home or anything; maybe I'd feel differently if we did? I'll ask all grandparents (who are our daycare) to make sure they get their flu shots, but I don't expect anyone to be vaccinated by the time she's born. I'll have DD1 get her shot at some point, probably in October or so.

You have our basic philosophy too. In spite of dd’s cf, or more because of it. If anyone is sick in your household, we don’t want you in our house. Most friends and family understand now, occasionally we have to have awkward
conversations or not go to family events.
If any one is going to be here for extended periods of time, like my mom may stay over, mil is our primary babysitter and my neighbor has offered to be around and help a lot, those I’ll ask to get the flu shot at some point. I believe both grandmothers got tdap when dd was born so shouldn’t need it again...I’ll have to ask my
neighbor if she needs hers.
We don’t take chances w sick around here, dd hasn’t caught so much as a cold in almost 2 years. It’s a bit isolating sometimes, but she’s so healthy it’s hard to take a risk!

And of course I'd still have the "if you've been sick, are feeling sick, or have been around sick people then reschedule" rule.
My big concern is out of town guests. I don’t expect them to show up until Nov/Dec and they will need a flu shot before coming. DS got the flu this winter and even at 23 months it was so bad that it resulted in an ambulance ride and 5 hours in the ER before they were able to bring his fever down to a “safe” level. It was the most terrifying day of my life and I plan to do whatever I can to keep this LO as healthy as I can for as long as possible. Reasonable or not.
To me personally the benefits of people having the flu shot are too great for me to not require it. I do understand if some people can’t get it before baby is born because of availability, but I would expect grandparents and close friends to have it before end of October.

I also need to talk to my OB about the (slight) possibility of complications, which I'm not looking forward to. I have a rare but very, very mild bleeding disorder, so I feel like I have to be ready to educate her, and I don't know her well enough to know how that will go over. Also, I tend to minimize things, and this is probably not a huge deal but I want to make sure she's aware of it ahead of time. I'm nervous about making sure I communicate the right level of seriousness. In the back of my mind there's a fear of hemorrhaging after giving birth, and I want to make sure my care team is on the right page going into things.

@lpq0309 I agree with @treeofcheem -- I started noticing BH contractions during second tri but my doctor said plenty of people, especially FTM, don't notice them. Pretty normal.
Did my glucose test(1hr), should have the results in the next day or two. Got my Tdap done. Started famotidine for the ridiculous reflux, and need to work on more stretches to prep my hips as my tailbone pain is still present. Really just sitting feels like I’m on the bone and the bone is bruised, its totally minimal on a daily basis but I could see it being an issue come labor time.
