@sarahzett exactly! I have a mom friend who told me from the start she wasn't even planning to look at my registry because she just went though labor and was getting a "me" gift. That I don't have a problem with, she finally told me she's putting together a hospital bag for me, yeah I was skeptical but I don't have to use everything in it.
Just stick to my registry, if I like something off it great. If not I have no problem returning it to buy what I want.
The Luvs were hell for ODD and I personally will never use them again. @purplegoldfish2
+1 to ditching plastic and using glass bottles. I specifically picked out glass bottles to reduce plastic consumption.

@ladyofarlington except what if they buy the thing at some local store thats like 45 minutes from where you live and then its a PITA. That is my annoyance
Touché! Hopefully they have an option where you can return it by mail! Ugh, that would annoy me too!
Or sell or donate it. Somebody out there will probably like it. I’ve sold some pretty ugly things that people flipped over how great it was... I couldn’t believe they gave me actual money for it because it was so ugly.
We did glass bottles with our boys (& will for this one). Just know they are heavy, so when all the other babies are at an age that they can hold their own bottles, yours probably won’t be able to yet.
Somebody mentioned Lifefactory and Klean Kanteen for bottles. We never used them for bottles, but loved them for sippy cups. Only downside to the Klean Kanteen is that the lids are really hard to clean because of the shape so I only felt comfortable using it with water, but they never leaked (unless I didn’t have the valve in correctly). We still use the Klean Kanteens all the time - we just bought the regular lids and use them as regular water bottles now. Lifefactory were great too, but if I remember correctly, they leaked a little.
Re diapers: Baby butts are all different. I’m surprised that I know this as a FTM since it seems obvious that some STMs don’t know. Who made you the diaper queen anyway?!!
AFM I think adult overalls are dumb af. I mean for farmers or old men they’re ok maybe. I don’t normally check out old overall wearing dudes so not 100% sure on that. I just saw a maternity overall outfit and was so confused! Do some pregnant people not have to pee 70x a day? I should add I’m not a fashionista though so maybe I should keep my mouth shut.
In a similar vein, my UO is that I think a lot of the maternity styles are ridiculous and trying to hard to be trendy and stylish. I’ve seen so many one sleeve or off the shoulder tops that I couldn’t imagine trying to wear... and of course you can tell the models are all regular models with a cushion bump. I’m glad things have progressed from the muumuu style of the 80’s but think it’s gone too far
@HoosOnGirst Swaddlers didn’t work for us at night, we’ve always used baby dry at night. He’s almost out of 6s tho, so we switched to cruisers during the day and I’m stumped what to do at night. What Huggies did you use at night?
DHs gma is one of those who will buy something not on the registry because her's is better. She would MIL that she got SIL a different pack and play to take the other one off the registry. Well SIL didn't because that was the one she wanted. Of course someone got her the one she wanted and gma got her one. Guess which one got returned? Yup gma's. I'm kinda glad that she won't be coming to the shower (she lives in Cali). She and FIL (her Son in Law) got into a fight when she was here for SIL's shower in 2016 and hasn't been back. She didn't even come to our wedding.

We used pampers and loved them, my kiddo peed through the Huggies as an infant. But now that we're on to pull ups, Huggies works fine. Not many people stuck with our registry but we did get some great personalized and homemade items. I was lucky though because my friends had secondhand items and gave us literally everything we needed, from a crib, to a glider, to carseat, so I didn't have to rely on the registry for necessary items or big ticket things. But definitely be warned, not many guests will buy off the registry!
Also, barf to canned spaghetti.
And boo to the supreme court decision on unions...maybe that's an unpopular opinion, but I'm all for unions and totally bummed out about the ruling.

The reason many people are anti-union is because they weren’t alive before there were unions and don’t recall what it was like before organized workers. I have my share of quibbles, having been in a union, but they serve a purpose to protect specific classes and groups who need it. My biggest issue is that the ruling says even if you don’t pay dues, the union has to represent you, which is total and utter bullshit. If you don’t want to join a union, Fine. But then you DONT get to make use of them. And of course the litigant was an old white dude. Of course. This administration is so anti-worker, it’s upsetting.
On the plus side, my state will have paid mandated maternity leave in 2021! Was signed into law yesterday. Won’t help me, but I’m glad it will help future moms!
I always try to buy at least one thing off the registry. I really wish people would mostly stick to the registry because like many of you said, I did a decent amount of research on many of the items and brands I chose. I didn’t put clothes or blankets on there because I know many people will buy those anyways (I usually pair an outfit with a registry item when I’m shopping for a baby shower). I’ve said this in a different thread...I will be grateful for any gifts we receive for our little guy, but there are some things we need! We have already had a few people give us bags of clothes, and I know he will go through a ton of outfits, but we also need bottles, a pack n play, etc.
Also, I agree with @knottieamusements canned spaghetti like that is gross. I used to eat spaghettios all the time as a kid and tried them a few years ago again and just yuck!
I love mini raviolis. They've been a staple during this pregnacy.
This one might get some flames...
Being in HR (and spending over 3 years in an associate relations role) I have very mixed feelings about unions. I strongly feel that if you have a good company with a respectable HR you don't need a union. My company has 3 remaining union sites. They all have their own little nuances that make managing their benefits a pain. My mom is a teacher and hates being part of the union. And I often hear how the incentive to be a strong worker is decreased because the union will protect the slackers.
However, I do understand where it is sometimes needed. Especially if you're in a contract type role where you're taking on jobs at different sites with different management. Although I had a friend get fired from a job site because he drank a beer during lunch and his wife was so upset but was glad the union was protecting him and getting him another assignment. Um, those rules are in place for a reason. Especially when you're doing something that your life is at risk.
To @HoosOnFirst 's point. I'm fine with not forcing people to pay dues, but I agree that means you give up the protections of the union.
I think part of the reason people don’t like unions is some of the ridiculous things they do/say. Like a union that sued a mayor (or other town official, I can’t remember exactly) for seeing a manhole cover was not seated correctly and just fixed it. The union’s complaint was that it took money away from their workers because it was a 2 man job that would have taken 2-3 hours to complete. The guy that fixed it literally bent down and pushed it a little. When you consider that those union workers were paid by taxpayers, it makes those taxpayers less likely to support the union.
And to add to what @sammierose464 said, unions don’t just protect the slackers, but they penalize the great workers by not allowing them to get a raise based on performance.

Now that dd is potty trained we use pull ups at night and they still hold a ton of pee.
I’ll know the weird pregnancy food cravings have hit if I suddenly want either.
Speghettios are mehh.. I like it with Franks!
