Re: Questions 6/22

  • Tastiest guilt-free drinks during pregnancy? It’s getting hot out so I want to find something refreshing that’s tasty to enjoy, especially when going out with my husband or friends who are drinking. I can only drink so much water. Also not a huge fan of flavored seltzer. Everything non-alcoholic I find seems like a bad idea though. Soda, lemonade, iced tea. I even picked up a flavored Pellegrino and realized it’s loaded with sugar. Anyone have some guilt-free go to drinks during pregnancy?

@rabtaido1214 have you checked pinterest for mocktail recipes. I'm sure a lot of them are sugary though.. I drink chocolate milk when I go out with people, but that's been my one "craving" this whole pregnancy
  • @rabtaido1214 - I look at the cocktail list and ask if the tasty sounding things can be made virgin.  Sometimes they can, sometimes they can’t.

But, yeah, I think you will have a hard time avoiding things loaded with sugar outside of water, sparkling flavored water, and tea.
  • @knottieamusements ya I think it will be hard to find a tasty alternative without a ton of sugar.

@mamabearcj hmmm chocolate milk sounds good! Can’t think of the last time I’ve had it haha.

@rabtaido1214 I have been drinking virgin mojitos and loving them. Fresh and tart, and not a lot of sugar.

  • @rabtaido1214 Dry Soda has way less sugar than the regular stuff and has some fun fruity summer flavors!
  • @rabtaido1214 @chyvie +1 for the Virgin mojitos!! It's my go to now.
  • @knottieamusements Our hospital had a grandparents class. None of our parents took it, so I can’t speak to how it was. But the description was basically just what you said. Update them on the new “rules”. Maybe look at hospitals near her?
  • @knottieamusements I wish I had thought of that with my mom. She is very much still stuck in that mindset even though DS is going to be two. She just can't wrap her mind around somethings and it was definitely challenging at times. Funny thing is my SO is only a few years younger than my mom and he is much more receptive to the "new rules". I second @tinattt23 with the grandparents classes.
  • So, super random and not baby related, but does anyone have suggestions or know of any dog beds that are a bit more tough and not as chewable? You can totally give a another I told you so, btw, cuz we're down 2 more hoses, another flip flop, and the dog bed. The bed was actually one of those little foam couches that fold out into and I've seen em at Wal-Mart but possibly available elsewhere. The foam was EVERYWHERE! But we haven't wanted to get another bed, in case it becomes another fatality. I thought I'd seen ads somewhere for a tougher dog bed, but I haven't found one, now that I need one...

  • @coffee-saur I love Costco dog beds. Really reasonable price for a huge bed. Never had one ripped apart, but I can’t remember if we had them when our dog was still a destructive pup.
  • @coffee-saur yep, agree with @ knottieamusements. We have one of those type beds (albeit way more expensive than that brand mentioned above) : https://kuranda.com/
. We got the aluminum one (no extra fuzzy pad) and it's held up very well. Just has some scratch marks because our dog likes to shove a toy under it, and then fish it out. Her favorite game.

Our doodle was a destroyer of beds and LOVES velcro and zippers. She's not big into sleeping on them, but our senior dog needs one while we're gone, and I'd come home to zipper and velcro pieces all over the floor at least once a week, and got tired of resewing them. Turns out, when the bed no longer is a play toy, she actually WILL sleep on them. I've even seen both dogs cuddle on it when we're gone via doggie cam.
  • Ive gone through numerous dog beds. Can’t say I found one to stand up to my dog, but I second the Costco dog bed because it’s huge and cheap ($20). We’ve had one with the zipper and stuffing ripped open, so again, not saying it’s anythinf special when it comes to indestructibility.
  • I agree with Knottie and Jemmer. If you have a chewer, who likes stuffing, no bed will be indestructible. A cot is the better way to go. That's what they use in the boarding place we keep Loki at and they've never had an issue as far as I know.

    TW?  Just in case.

I had the smallest bit of bleeding this morning.  It was when i went to the batbroom so i dont know if it was in my urine or not.  The baby has been moving though.

I should call the Dr right?  I don't even know that this is a 'question', I'm going to call, I just was looking for some reassurance I guess.

  • @lest12 Yes definitely call your doctor just in case. Try not to panic, sounds like it wasn't much. Could it have been from a bowel movement or sex recently?
  • @lest12 Definitely call. You'll stress if you don't. I'm sure it was nothing. I spot for all sorts of reasons, it's always nothing. Better to be on the safe side tho.

  • @lest12 calling is always a reasonable thing to do, especially if you’re worried. Spotting is pretty common, and can be caused by a lot of things (sex, UTI, vaginal ultrasound/cervical check, hemmorhoids, a small placental bleed, an irritable cervix etc) and is usually benign, but definitely get checked to put your mind at ease!

@lest12 I agree with the other ladies. Call to ease your mind. There are a few things that could cause it but you'll just stress if you dont. With DS I had this issue from a UTI and anytime we had sex.

Eta: I didn't see your update when I posted my response. Glad your exam looked good!

@knottieamusements something like that might work! I know there won't be a bed that is indestructible, but just hoped to find one that is maybe just a bit tougher. Right now she has an old dog blanket that has lasted awhile.  she appears to love having a bed, and will sleep on it all the time, until she's bored I guess.

@lest12 yikes! Glad your exam looked ok!

  • @lest12 glad your exam went okay!
  • @lest12 - Glad the exam went well, and fingers crossed for your ultrasound!  And you get to see your baby, so that’s a bonus if nothing else.  :)
  • Based on Dr. Google, I think I'm having some pelvic girdle pain. Achy pelvis, hurts turning over at night and getting out of bed, hurts trying to put pants on, etc. (all described by other people on other forums). It's actually gotten a little better yesterday and today but end of last week it was starting to feel pretty bad. Anyone else? And does anyone have tips on how to manage?
  • As much as I dislike it, Loki can't have anything in his crate with him besides a super tough Kong type toy. He has a bed in our room and in the living room, but he's never left unattended with those for long. After several beds were destroyed in his crate, I gave up. He's a power chewer (boxer/pit mix) and destroys almost anything.
  • @sammierose464 Try these toys: https://mydogtoy.com/tuffy

Our lab was a total destroyer of all the “indestructible” toys. These ones actually survive a really long time. We’ve lost a few eventually, but some she’s had some for years.

@sammierose464  your dog sounds a lot like mine. He leaves a path of destruction when left alone so now we have to leave him in a bare crate and it breaks my heart. He’s also a boxer mix. Here’s some of his portfolio. Used a spoiler since The pics are probably  obnoxiously big. We have tried the toys @tinattt23  recommended and they held up pretty well, but he would go at the seam all day and it lasted less than a week. The only thing that lasts is a kong rubber toy. Thank god he’s the sweetest.

YEP I had exactly these symptoms starting about 2 weeks ago and that’s what my OB said. Specifically changing positions in bed and putting on pants. It’s annoying. I bought a support band and it hasn’t done shit. I do now sleep with a pillow between my legs to keep my hips and pelvis stable.
  • @HoosOnFirst good to know. I have been sleeping with a pillow already, but I still flop around and get in weird positions, so maybe if I try to be more diligent about good sleeping positions it'll help.
  • @rabtaido1214 oh my goodness! That would have me crazy! I may try one of those toys, it's worth a shot!
  • When does 3rd Trimester “officially” start?

By the math, I’m going with 26 1/2 weeks, but I remember there were some different opinions when 2nd tri started....
  • 28 weeks. But the 6th month starts at 26 weeks, @knottieamusements!

This! Team Costco. The ones ive purchased are usually “Kirkland” branded from Costco and those things are the best.
  • +1 for the giant Costco dog beds. Ours has a removable cover that washes up nicely.  We have a pit mix who can be a very heavy chewer. Fortunately he loves his comfy bed!
