@echo-charlietango if it makes you feel any better I stayed at the Flamingo a few years ago, and it is TRASHY as hell. The drinks suck (well not the beer because its bottled), the people were super trashy there and I wouldn't be caught dead there again. Now if your friends were at the Hard Rock pool for Rehab, I'd be jealous.
@echo-charlietango wrt post term babies, most of the research I’ve found is after 42 weeks, but the placenta will eventually stop supporting the baby, and chances of meconium in utero increase the longer they’re in there.
Basically, I’ll be happy if baby comes anytime after 37 weeks. Before then, sure let’s not induce or schedule c-sections for ridiculous reasons. After then? Baby will probably be fine.
@Jens_Hoes But...DH & I love Flamingo! Especially since it’s a little crusty Granted, last summer we had a jammin’ cabana at Paris, but Flamingo is our fave

I just read that whole damn Jan UO thread and holy wow. This is probably weird but it made me a little stabby that someone was going after galactikates. They need to NOT.
Also... deeply grateful that I definitely won't have to go beyond 40 weeks this time (it'll be a scheduled c-section at or slightly before my due date if I don't go naturally before then). By the time 39 weeks hit last time, I was willing to take on any minor risk to her health and my own to preserve my mental health and get rid of the pain. 9lb 14oz is a lot of baby, and I was up by 50% from my usual body weight. Discomfort doesn't even begin to cover it; after a couple weeks of nearly nonstop tears, I only stopped crying when I finally had that prescription for induction on my due date in my hands (ironically, I didn't even make it home from that appointment before contractions started, but whatever). So my UO: zero judgment for anybody who wants to go early. Scheduling for convenience is kinda iffy, but pregnancy is hell.
I don't think there's anything wrong with inducing or scheduling a c-section between 38-40 weeks since that's considered full time, but the women talking about "evicting" any earlier than that need a dose of reality.

Still lurking January UO: (a) DTaP or Tdap not only don't contain the live attenuated bacteria, it only contains a fragment of the bacterial cell, so you can't contract pertussis from it nor can you spread it. (b) A reverse Google image search reveal that child became paralyzed 2 weeks after recieving the 3rd dose of Gardasil (so, fine for the first 6 months after recieving the vaccine at all, then fine for another 2 weeks after recieving the final dose). No evidence of a link beyond the fact that he'd gotten the shot kind of recently (and he'd taken Tylenol even more recently than Gardasil, so...). Correlation doesn't imply causation. I wonder what grade that person got on that research paper they did...
@AGK2015 Thank you for being smart. I mean that sincerely. Some of the things these people come up with can sound SO convincing. But the thing is that I know I understand science a lot less than my doctor/pediatrician does. So I trust their judgement on all things medicine. Period.
Yeah, it seems suspicious that that chick "knows" so many people who have gotten significant vaccine injuries.

We are currently discussing this In my last BmB since someone there is in the Jan BMB (pro-vaxxer of course) and one of the ladies who is a doctor had this response: "Ugh so frustrating. Especially when one person is sharing multiple references to enhance her fear mongering. None of her articles are from big journals or peer reviewed journals. Also she doesn’t (and neither do the authors of her “studies”) seem to understand that correlation is DEFINITELY NOT EQUAL to causation. Also, she doesn’t seem to understand that bacterial super infection leading to pneumonia is still a sequelae if the flu. She seems to think that every study she reads citing “pneumonia” as cause of death means the patient has de novo pneumococcal pneumonia. Nah bitch, That pneumonia they got is in direct result of their flu infection. People who don’t know what they don’t know are dangerous. Now I’m mad and I’m not in the group.”
Guys, I've been SO busy with work this week I've barely had time to post or lurk but I did check out that UO thread briefly and HOLY SHIT. I just want to say I appreciate you guys on the December board so much because...wow.
@coco2787 Yeah, I raised my eyebrows with that too. I mean, severe reactions are *incredibly* rare, but okay.
@runrinserepeat Yes, I am actually way more terrified about people who go too late in pregnancy because ***serious TW*** I have two friends who had incredibly tragic outcomes from going past 41 weeks. I won't go into detail because it's very upsetting, but please don't just assume "the baby knows when it wants to come" and keep going until then. There are increased negative outcomes after 41 weeks! It is no joke. end TW*** My OB has a strict policy of inducing at 41 or 41 +1 and I am grateful for that!
Re: complaining at the end of pregnancy, I do think, as long as you're full term, there are sometimes non urgent medical reasons to go early. I had sciatic nerve pain so bad I was walking with a cane and was in terrible, terrible pain every time I moved. It was so bad my doctor offered to induce me at 39 weeks. I hung in there until 41 + 1 hoping I wouldn't have to be induced, but absolutely no judgement for anyone else who is in terrible pain and wants to induce as long as they're full term.
@maureenmce That was almost us. We spent 3 weeks in the NICU and were told at one point that our son had no normal brain function. (He came at 41+4.) I know what happened to him was super duper rare but at the same time I know H is going to push for induction if/when I hit 41 weeks and I don’t want to do that, either. But I also don’t want to flirt with disaster again. Sigh, choices...choices I really hope I don’t have to make! If this child could pop out on December 11 that would be ideal!

@PensiveCrayon Hopefully, being your second, your body will go into labor sooner! (That's what I'm hoping this time around!) But if you ever do choose an induction because you're late, I can talk you through it! It wasn't nearly as bad as I was fearing and I still got to have a vaginal birth. (From what I'd read, I was scared that induction = c section basically.) It took a long time (27 hours) but I had a patient OB who just let my body slowly get going. Also, I'm sorry you had such a scary, scary situation last time around. Big hugs.
That’s a bummer @echo-charlietango. I feel for you. I get really bad fomo and pregnancy seems to make it worse. I Can’t wait to sit at home when everyone is in Mexico for a wedding including my husband (the best man).
I'm also on the Jan BMB because I am * technically* due in Jan. OMG it's such a mess. I am pro- vax and it's just not even worth it trying to reason with some of them. I just sit back and watch it. I'm hoping the thread dies soon but looks of it, it will live a long life.
Ugh, there was a confirmed case of pertussis in my kid’s class this year. I wanted to ask the Mom why her healthy eating and essential oils that make for a strong immune system didn’t protect her child like she claims they do on the internet. Umm, no thanks on that play date, especially once I have a newborn your kid’s sickness could kill.
I had my first on her due date, and there was meconium in the placenta with her, she was pretty jaundiced and we had to stay an extra day for her to be under the lights before going home. The second, again on the due date had none, and she had no jaundice. (Both cesarean) Being really pregnant sucks, any mom who has been lucky enough to make it that far in a normal uneventful pregnancy can tell you that. Add to that complications for both mom and baby, I would trust the Dr’s recommendation on when inducing good outweighs the bad.
*off to lurk in january, takes popcorn, takes gifs*
Re: post-term/pre-term—my son was born 41+4 via c, agree there are increased risks of serious complications to both Mom and baby to think of. @pensivecrayon I can’t imagine how terrifying that was. I’m so sorry you went through that and I hope we both labor earlier this time.
@ab_canada Not my gifs!! I see what you’re saying, but gifs are, generally, a hilarious interlude. I often think it’s a little bit of a gtky-through-your-snarky-side ritual. People complaining about a thread staying bumped, but continuing to comment on it though.... *side-eye*
Wooooow. That went really well with my tea and chocolate donut holes until the end! My son has reacted to a few vaccines (very rare underlying genetic/immune condition); so every one of his vaccines is discussed by 3 drs and monitored if given::: reality v. harmful ignorance. I feel like they should never have taken the old Oregon Trail game out of curriculum!
