Diaper raffle baskets-Prizes?

I will be hosting a diaper raffle at my baby sprinkle (mini version of a baby shower without the big gifts only basics since this is my second boy) and I will be giving away two baskets and my sprinkle is going to be for men and women to attend and if someone were to bring a pack of diapers they could be entered to win one of the baskets so my question is what of items should I put in each basket? What would men and women like to win in a basket like that?

I think I saw a post by you in the baby shower thread that you were hosting a sprinkle. While showers/sprinkles for a second kid are sometimes a regional thing, it’s definitely very tacky to throw your own. Also, I may have missed it, but I don’t seem to recall you participating much or really at all here. We are a community that has developed over the last 24+ weeks and we really don’t like being treated like a personal google for you.

That being said, I would majorly side-eye someone I know throwing themselves a sprinkle for second kid. We don’t even really do sprinkles where I’m from. And I wouldn’t go. It’s just gift-grabby. Save the money on the baskets and buy your own diapers. If people want to gift you something for this child, they will do so because they want to.

@stothi I would prefer kittens, but puppies work.

My MIL purchased $15 Bath & Body Works cards and $10 Starbucks for winners of games at my shower. I like the puppy idea @stothi had.

I love when I buy someone something they want, and they give me trash that I feel obligated to take home, but just throw away a week or two later because it's nothing that I want, nothing that I can do anything with, and it's really just clutter. It makes me feel great that we're further perpetuating consumerism, further perpetuating companies manufacturing trash, further filling landfills, and just wasting time, money, and earth's precious resources. Don't throw yourself a sprinkle, and if you do and feel obligated to buy them something, buy them alcohol because nobody wants to be there.

I'm impressed the junk makes it a week or two! I usually toss it as soon as I walk in the door.

Also, my vote goes to alcohol, puppies and kitties.

If we are going to seriously answer the question I do also vote for just booze and I don't even drink. No basket, no fillers, no whatever, just a bottle of wine and a chocolate bar for one and a six pack of beer and a bag of jerky for the other.

Oh, I agree about the financial gain part. I feel like it's honestly a better investment to skip the party and baskets and whatnot and just buy whatever basic supplies one needs.

I've been thinking about it more, and I know everyone cares soooo much about what I think

but this is the conclusion I've come to-
So, I don't care at all how many showers or sprinkles or dripping faucets one has, and I only very slightly side eye hosting one's own get together (I'd totally still go if we were friends) but I'm really uncomfortable with the idea of hosting one's own raffle. Like that for me crosses the line to where I wouldn't participate. Cause a raffle is very much a calculated financial/business type transaction. The exclusive purpose of a raffle is that one invests a small amount of money, goods or services in an attempt to get in return a much larger amount of money, goods or services. I always feel that the party itself, no matter what one calls it, can be about other things like celebrating new life, getting together with friends, ect, but a raffle, unless you give the tickets away for free, is exclusively about profit.
All that being said, I don't care at all if someone does it, but now I have 2 things baby shower/sprinkle wise that I won't participate in. Before it was just booze on the registry that I was against but now I can add that I wouldn't participate in a raffle hosted by the person who would profit from said raffle.

@stothi I have been to showers with diaper raffles hosted by friends/family of the mom to be and still feel like it’s just a little tacky and greedy. I also feel the same about the dollar dances at weddings. I’m happy to give a gift to celebrate your special milestones, but if I feel like you’re looking to profit off my generosity, I start feeling a whole lot less generous. Maybe I should be posting this in the UO thread instead...

IMO I feel like if it's truly hosted by someone else that's a completely different ball game. It's optional, you're not required to participate, and it can be worked into the total gift cost vs budget instead of thinking of it as an add-on.

Opinion strongly based on the fact that the only showers I've ever been to that they did this at were for my BFF and my BFF's sister so I basically would have happily done anything for them.

@DanyTargaryen I can go with your logic. I hear you. Except I still can't get behind dollar dances at weddings. That one blew my mind the first time I encountered it. All I could think was, "isn't that what strippers do?" And I mean, don't get me wrong, I like strippers. I think I was a stripper in a past life. I just thought it was an incredibly strange thing to see at a wedding. Or like dollar trees. Has anyone seen those? Where folk set up a little fake tree for you to tie cash to? That one totally caught me off guard cause it's straight up just asking you to leave cash. What's next? Literally just a box labeled "give us cash"?

@DanyTargaryen if it’s truly hosted by someone else and the guest of honor really had nothing to do with it, then maybe my feelings would be different, but the only times I’ve seen them, the mom was involved in the planning regardless of who hosted and each time I already knew from previous experience with her that she views these kinds of events as ways to get as much stuff as possible. In one, the mom to be actually complained to me afterwards that not everything on her registry was purchased and maybe she should have invited more people (and they had a crazy huge registry full of unnecessarily expensive stuff). In another case, I overheard MTB talking to her mom about how she “got a good haul”.
so maybe my issue is really that I know too many shitty, greedy people.

@stothi - My response was 100% on the diaper raffle only. Big no thank you to dollar dances. I have never been to a wedding that had one and I hope to keep it that way!

@nackie - That stuff makes a big difference! My opinion on things can definitely vary based on who it's for/involves. The baby showers I've been to were truly planned by people not the mom-to-be with the exception being input on date, location, and food options (i.e. hey MTB, we're throwing you a brunch shower - would you like hash browns or home fries to be served).

@DanyTargaryen my mil insisted on a dollar dance at the wedding. DH and I told her no. But nonetheless, she took the microphone and announced it at reception. That had to be one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. Luckily, it only lasted two songs, but still. I think it would have been more embarrassing to call her out at the reception than the dollar dance.

Dollar dances.. it’s tscky, first of all. Second- let’s say that the song is 4 minutes, give or take, and then you add in transitioning time to a new person.. that’s less than $15 for an hour of dancing. No thank you.

The only appropriate prize for a shower game of any kind around here is a Dunkin Donuts giftcard, at least $5. No one wants crap to take home! (We’re around Boston where Dunks is a staple of like, so it’s pretty universal).
