FTM June Check-In

Hi ladies! I don't think we've had one of these in awhile. I love how everyone is chatting throughout multiple threads but thought it might also be nice to talk to other FTMs here.

How far along are you?

We're coming into third trimester! How are you feeling?

@yosemite2018 July 6 (31 weeks). Any recs for someone coming out of north county, SD?
  • @klj0228 they aren't out of the first trimester yet, but since they wanted to tell us before we saw them in person, she might be already showing. Babies are kind of a big deal on my DH's father's side of the family because there aren't very many. My FIL is the second youngest of 7 and there's about a 20 yr age difference between the oldest and youngest. Most of my FIL's brothers and sisters are in their sixties and seventies. Most of DH's cousins are in their thirties and early forties. Before we found out about Polly, there were only two young nephews in the family. So, when we found out about Polly, everyone was so excited about a new baby, especially since she is going to be named after DH's grandmother. I'm excited that Polly will have a cousin close to her in age and that they'll have time together before we move from Texas next June.

    Sorry so long.

We're coming into third trimester! How are you feeling?  Huge and awkward, like I don’t understand my body movements anymore.

    Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
Rant: I jogged to the elevator at work and asked someone to hold it and they just stared at me and let it go
Rave: I bought some dresses for summer summer and my SIL just bought ALL of the diapering supplies from our amazon registry!

GTKY: Any babymoons or other vacations this summer? What about staycations?

We took a vacation in April. But we’ve got a lot of visitors this summer! My besties (who are sisters!) will be here next week for our shower, and MIL & SIL will be here the week after. We’ve got lots of entertaining to do
  • @tpeci I'm not a graduate student, but I am working on an undergraduate degree. I'm taking the fall semester off and will start back in January.

  • @jazzvaughn I live in Houston now and the heat index is just crazy.... but I'm sure you know how it is. I've been mainly staying indoors in the air conditioning anytime after noon.

@SkilledSailor I totally second you on the excitement to be done pregnancy and have a healthy baby at home!
We are both nurses studying to be nurse practitioners. We were unsuccessfully trying for a few months and figured we might stop trying and he can apply and do his masters right away... and as he applied I got pregnant. We thought he might defer by one year but since the families have been so helpful and his grand parents are coming for a few months to help with house stuff he will do it part time.

@smsaulino what are you studying in?? I would have liked doing the same but because the classes are so small they are only given once a year, so I would have no choice but to completely delay my studies by a whole year. So I decided to do this year part time and then finish it the following year.
  • @tpeci I'm going for my Associate's in medical billing and coding. Afterwards, I plan on becoming certified and work while pursing a higher degree in healthcare management. I had odd jobs while DH was going through med school and since he's now far enough into residency, I've been focused on continuing my education for the past year. This past semester was hard on me because I've been sick off and on since February.

  • @SkilledSailor What is a food truck rodeo? Yay for the upcoming wedding and trip to Disney. I’m sure if you take it at your pace there will still be plenty to do and you will have lots of fun! And I have always been such an upbeat friendly person never wanting to hurt peoples feelings I am struggling with setting boundaries so we can do things just the two of us. I am finding that people are open to it the more honest I am with how I’m feeling. It’s just not something I am used to doing.

@smsaulino now I understand all the excitement around another baby in the family. It will be awesome to have a cousin close in age to Polly.

@samd6 yay for your SIL buying the diapering supplies! I am trying to stay away from my registries so I’m still surprised when my shower comes in a few weeks, but it’s so hard!!

@smsaulino that sounds great! We need good people to manage this crumbling system.... and yeah I can only imagine, I spent most of the winter semester vomiting and exhausted. Hopefully it will be a bit better next time around!

@klj0228 I've been watching it because our shower is on 6/10 and people have been having stuff shipped to the house, so I "need" to know what's coming so I don't open packages that are for the shower, but open the packages of things I ordered lol. Also SIL said "hey - can you look at what I bought and make sure there isn't anything else you guys need?"

For day trips you could do downtown or mission bay in SD, Laguna Beach, LA, Santa Barbara, Temecula (although probably better after baby is born so you can drink...). I hope you like the beach. Basically anywhere north or south, just depends what you’re looking for and how far you want to drive. My bestie lives in San Clemente (last city in OC before you get to North SD County) and I drive down there pretty easily, either on a Sunday or after traffic on a weekday.

@yosemite2018 thank you for the recs. Luckily, I love the beach and exploring new areas!

@SkilledSailor he definitely travels frequently, but I never got to take advantage in the past because of my work schedule (most trips are during the week). Hoping we can take advantage before I go back to work - he goes to really fun places!
  • @smsaulino, I'm in Houston for the weekend. That's where my husband's family lives. I can't believe how hot it is this early in the summer! Do what you can to stay cool!
  • @Starla yay for getting clothes and other baby things from your sister!! So far I only have a couple outfits so I figure after my shower I will have plenty of clothes to wash and put away. I still have constipation on and off too. I am taking colace daily and that didn’t hello much, so I started only taking my prenatal every other day. That seems to have helped the most.  And thank you, it was our priority the last few years so it will be nice to be debt free.
  • @klj0228 Colace did nothing for me last time so I started drinking prune juice. Constipation hit me hard this week so I started drinking prune juice again last night and I was finally able to get some relief. Also I take gummy prenatals (no iron) and bariatric iron (slow release) which I take on days when I don’t feel super constipated. It’s been easier than taking prenatals with iron so I can skip one but not the other.
  • @klj0228 It's kind of like a food fair. A bunch of food trucks (20-50 depending on the rodeo) line the streets. Usually there are also bands. Sometimes there is other entertainment. Mostly you just go to eat a lot of food.

@skilledsailor this sounds like pregnant woman heaven, minus the southern summer heat and humidity.

    Edited to correct auto-correct
  • @klj0228 Haha yes, basically. We’re going to a dog themed one on Sunday. Pretty excited for the pups to get in on the action!

@SkilledSailor The Cape is a big place so if you're planning a trip, you'd first want to decide what area you're interested in. There's basically the lower Cape, Upper Cape (area closer to Boston/the mainland), Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.

I'm personally partial to the lower Cape which is from Orleans to Provincetown. Here are some things to do:
-Provincetown is a fun day trip. Commercial street is full of shops and restaurants. You can also catch a whale watching tour, go through the Whydah pirate ship museum and climb Pilgrim Monument.
-Wellfleet has a great downtown area full of shops, art galleries and restaurants.
-There are kettle ponds all over Cape Cod which are great for swimming. The ocean is great but it's the north Atlantic so it's pretty cold!
-Walk oceanside and bay side beaches.
-Go for ice cream every night.

I could go on and on but Cape Cod is a lot of fun and makes a great couple or family vacation!
  • I'm a little late, been a busy week so far, but love this thread :)
    How far along are you?

    24 weeks today

We're coming into third trimester! How are you feeling?
Pretty good, definitely bigger for sure. Some minor low back pain if I sit it certain positions for too long. A little stretching and some exercises I found online doing the trick for now.

    Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
Looking ahead to summer , I see its going to be a busy one, something on nearly every weekend and big events to look forward to like a shower for a good family friend and mine :). I have  feeling I am going to be craving some more down time as we get into August FOR SURE.

GTKY: Any babymoons or other vacations this summer? What about staycations?
My hubby and I are planning a little getaway to upstate New York. Me too @Starla :)  Gonna stay at a quaint little country inn, enjoy some nice meals and spa for me :)  and relax and do a little shopping.

@runninginva a babymoon in Bermuda sounds so lovely! Love it down south, one place I have not been yet. Hope you had the best time

@smsaulino ugh! sorry you are feeling crappy still. I bet the heat doesn't help at times. Congrats on having another baby in the family. Nice to have little ones close ish together in age at family events and things.

@SkilledSailor glad you are feeling good-ish, a trip to Florida sounds amazing! I hear ya on the busy social calender this summer, trying to get my visits in now while i'm still feeling good too.

     that sounds fantastic!

We're coming into third trimester! How are you feeling? Not bad, my anxiety is a bit ridiculous, I had hoped that would subside somewhat.  Insomnia has kicked in a bit, but my constipation has eased.

Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary? It is time to tackle my registry/what to buy.  I have been putting off researching and it is now time.

GTKY: Any babymoons or other vacations this summer? What about staycations? Nothing this summer.  We have been fortunate to travel quite a bit, so we decided this summer to stay home and do house things.

We're coming into third trimester! How are you feeling?
Definitely feeling pregnant, at least while I'm at work. I work outside so I've been watching what I do and how long I'm in the heat. The back pain has been worse lately but overall I feel okay. We are going on our hospital tour next week, I'm excited but a little nervouse cause it means my little one is coming soon!
Just a little stressed about some things..

    Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
Rave-The nursery is finally painted! I am in love with it! Hubby is starting to get materials together to build our daughters crib. Has anyone else built their own crib instead of buying??

Rant- our roommate is finally moving out of our basement. Hubby & I have been married over a year, we didn't know if we were going to move or not but figured out we could pay this house off in 5 years if we stayed. Then we found out I was pregnant, after telling our roommate (I was 12 weeks at the time) we thought he would move out in 2-3 months since he said when we got married "as soon as a baby comes in the picture I'm out"...Now it's been 6 months, he started to move out on Monday but oh boy he is taking his time. He took all the important things like his bed, tv, mini fridge and computer on Monday but let ALL HIS TRASH! We even found bugs in his room. My husband flipped out last night on him saying he needs to be out by today and clean so he can spray for bugs while I'm out of the house. But his stuff is still down there! This is stressing me out because we cant continue with finishing the nursery or move our other furniture into the basement till this is all handled. I don't think I've ever met someone so lazy and disgusting. Y'all would have flipped if you saw how he left the basement on Monday. Rant done :)

GTKY: Any babymoons or other vacations this summer? What about staycations?
We went to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for our babymoon during memorial day weekend since hubby and I both had an extended weekend. Oh man was it busy there!  We did a lot that Saturday with walking around and checking out some places but other than that we stayed in our hotel and relaxed. We honestly didn't want to deal with all the people so if you go, plan to go in the off season! Overall it was nice to relax and lay in bed with my hubby all day.

  • @lpq0309 Ugg - sorry about your gross roommate situation! At least he is in the process of leaving. But, I'm very curious about your H building the crib. Mine wants to also, but I think that we are going to buy one instead. He has all the tools and skills to build one, but he is so busy already that I think we decided to buy one (or register for one) instead. Still, I worry that he will constantly feel like he could have made a better one. And, he really could. He is super talented and he really likes perfection. We have seen store cribs that he likes though, so I am hoping he will be okay! Please post pics of the one your H builds. I'm sure it will be great and special!
  • @magnolia209 I definitely will post pictures! I know he has some designs drawn out at work. Like your H, mine has the skills and tools to do it but I just don't want him to get overwhelmed. But I will keep you updated. He should be starting in the next couple of weeks hopefully.. (fingers crossed, I don't have a plan b yet
  • @magnolia209 So remember how my H was suppose to build a crib??? Well I went to Babies r us to check out the deals they had and I honestly just wanted to look around, I had no intention of buying anything... ended up coming home with a crib!  Ooppss.  I found one that was originally $600 discounted for only $200. I feel in love with it and it was the last one.  <3
  • @lpq0309 I totally understand!!! I’m glad you got such a great deal! This makes me want to run out and look at our babies r us!
  • @lpq0309 yay! For finding such a great deal!! Me and DH went to two BRU after shower on Saturday to look for a car seat and ALL car seats were completely gone. I was super bummed.
