@karaszoo1 I vote Madelynne then -- it looks less like you tried to make up a unique spelling of Madeline.
We told my wife's grandma and aunt that we were pregnant two nights ago. They're a whacky duo and if you have ever seen Grey Gardens, that's what we call them (They're not as crazy as big and little Edie though!). Anyway her aunt texted the next day with an entire list of names that she and grandma liked for the baby, using M and J initials...and just no! Marleigh, Jenna, Marnie, Joy...not horrible names but not what we're thinking at all. Hope she's not offended when we don't use any of em! And clearly she believes we're having a girl
My wife and I have conceived a babe with my body and frozen donor sperm through IUI, with medication support (clomid, ovidrel, and injections of progesterone) IUI #1, #2, and #3: Dec 2017, Jan 2018, and Feb 2018 - all BFN HSG Test: April 2018 - all clear! IUI #4: April 15/16, 2018 - BFP!! EDD: Jan 7, 2019
@karaszoo1 I would go with Madelynne. It’s closest to the original spelling and with the “Lynne” ending I doubt anyone will assume it’s pronounced like the books about a little French girl.
Also, if you really hate Gunnar then tell your H and work on finding a different name. You definitely don’t want to give your kid a name you hate. DH and I veto names we hate all the time. You’ll find the right one. Try sites like nymbler and nameberry where you can type in inspiration names to find similar ones.
Edited to fix spelling.

Hubs is currently set on Levi James for a boy and iley (used a lower case to show it's not 2 "L's" haha) Jade. He says Jade because it is my middle name but I'm really not really feeling it, I would rather use James for both. I also like iley Mae but dd2's middle name is Rae so I don't like how matchy it is which takes it off the table
My hubs and I cannot agree on any names. Thank god we have several more months to figure it out. I think it’s our age difference (he’s 7 years younger)... he likes what I consider “weird” names (such as characters from the “Dune” series) OR the most boring names (no offense to all of the Jennifers out there. It’s probably a unique name for babies now).
My current favorites for girls are Luanne (a family name) or Lenora. Thomas for a boy. DH hates all of it. Clarke is DH’s middle name so we may use that somewhere. All of this will change I’m sure!
@AshVA I've personally always loved the name James and it is my dad's middle name. I just know this will be my last chance to use it so would like to whether baby is a boy or girl
@AshVA James was my uncle’s name that I was very close to and he passed away almost 7 years ago. We have had it as a middle name option every pregnancy if it was a boy. So seeing as this is our last baby this will be my last time to honor him by giving baby his name regardless of sex.
I love the name too, and absolutely understand wanting to honor a family member. If we have a boy he will almost certainly be James, after my grandfather. I just don't see James as a girl's name at all. There isn't anyone here suggesting (for example) that they would give a son the middle name Elizabeth after their mother, and James for a girl seems just as unusual to me.
On the other hand, it's a real name and spelled properly, so that's a big plus. It's no JaxxXxxson lol
We are between 4 boys names 2 are family names that we really want to use, Zachary and Robert, and the other 2 I LOVE, Rhett and Callum. Rhett is for sure my number 1 boys name, but would it be weird because our daughters name is Juliet? We call her Jules though...
We are having a really rough time with girls names, we LOVE Scarlett, and considered it with our first, but with our last name, it for sure sounds like a stripper name which we are having a hard time with. Other than that we like Fae, Clara, and Raelyn.
@AshVA & @rooonilwaazlib I def don't want a weird spelling or to look like we were trying to be unique lol Our kids have basic names, Brian Thomas , James Orion III, Isabelle Ann. I didn't tevem know there was a Jaxson debate lol We are going Jaxson and figuring out a new middle name ,I told him immediatly I didn't like Gunnar but wasnt sure if I was using my veto card on it lol I think you are all correct in going with madelynne . I don't want it to look ridiculous and I want to keep the ode to my mom WTH the Lynne part. Oh baby naming, why must it be so difficult
With the whole James as a name thing...I've heard it like, Anna James or Ella James. I know a girl named Anna James and her family has deep southern roots. I've always wondered if that was why.

Would it be weird to name a boy Alexander if my sister's name is Alexandria?
Not at all! My first thought was that you had a DD named Alexandria, in which case it would definitely be weird. It's not weird that it's close to your sister's, though.

We're traditional namers. Caitlin Jean for a girl. DH wants to call her "Katie," but I don't know how to spell the nickname for a Caitlin. Is it "Caity"? It all looks weird to me. We settled on Caitlin years ago after he nixed all of my names ending in "lyn." (Carolyn, Marilyn, Evelyn).
I want Jack for a boy after my grandfather, but DH is fighting it hard. He wants Aaron, but that reminds me of a guy I dated, so it's probably nixed. It also makes me think of the Key & Peele substitute teacher sketch, which is hilarious.

Thanks. I guess I'm just worried about there being two Alex(s) at family functions but I grew up with a popular 80s name and graduated with four people with the same name and I turned out ok so....
@AshVA My SIL used James for her daughter's middle name too. She has a very feminine first name to go with it. We live in the south if that has anything to do with it. We used SIL's middle name as DD's middle name and I think she wanted to do the same for her first born and use DH's name in there somehow. Plus, James is a very big family name (Dh, late FIL, maternal grandpa).
My husband informed me yesterday he’s no longer sure about our girl name. I was like what?? You can’t do this to me! I’ve been set on that being our girl name for years now! If that’s the case then we are back to the drawing board for both genders.
We are pretty set on the name Morgan for a girl. I'd like to give her a K middle name. I don't like names ending in the same sound so K names ending in N or "y/ie/ee" (like our last name) are out. Right now I'm thinking Morgan Kate.
We are less sure on boy names. I actually like Morgan all around as a unisex name but still worry about giving this name to a boy because it seems to lean more female these days. I think it's easier for women to have 'male' names than vice versa.

We were heavily leaning towards either Daphne or Lauren for a girl, but I'm falling a little less in love with Daphne over the past couple weeks. I think it's still DH's favorite though. We've finally added some boy's names as contenders: Cody, Everett, Thomas and Riley. Boy names are so hard.
@PolarBear517 I love the name Morgan for a boy or a girl, but especially as a boy's name! If my last name didn't also start with an M, it'd definitely be a contender for me.
@melly-melly I actually just added the name Daphne to my list this morning! It’s not a super common name so it’s funny to come across it again so soon.
@LCRbelle I don't think I've heard anyone else mention it on their list to me before! My only hang up on it is what she may get nicknamed. Maybe it's just a name with no nickname, but I just keep feeling like she'd get called Daffy Duck. That might just be me being ridiculous though.
My DH and I talk about bad potential nicknames all of the time — they’re kind of hard to avoid completely. He vetoed Lenora because he thinks it rhymes with “menorah” (which it does... but I mean is menorah an insult?) If kids can’t make up a mean nickname from their name, they’ll figure out something else. Kids called me “yard sale” because I got my clothes second hand!
