...that there was a RECTAL exam done at your 1st OB appt!??! Lol... I was super surprised! At least she warned me right before she did it, and, quickly after, I got to hear my baby's heartbeat for the 1st time... that made up for it a bit.

Re: Why did no one tell me...
Hmmm is that normal? I've never had one and haven't even heard it mentioned before..
But uhh congrats on surviving that experiance..
I never had one.. thats weird...
Maybe your doctors office does it? I've never heard of it though.?
yup, to test for strep b. was her ob confused??
Rectal exams are a valuable part of the pelvic exam; some gynecologists advocate doing a rectovaginal exam (one finger in the rectum and one in the vagina) all the time, whereas others, like myself, do them routinely only in women over 40 or in situations where it will improve examination of the ovaries. Rectovaginal exam does make it easier to feel the ovaries well, but it is not the only way.
.......is the first thing that came to mind. LOL...
I had NEVER had one at any of my yearly exams. Today Dr said, "Ok, I am going to outline your uterus, check your rectum, and after I'm done being mean to you, then we can talk."
It was highly uncomfortable, but overwith in about three seconds.
I assume they just want to be overly thorough. Ugh though.
Thanks you Jamiga. That quote made me think of that too and I almost spit my juice out when I saw that picture. Nice.

There is the link if OP wants to read the article. Not sure if you will find it useful or not.
I did also read somewhere that it is sometimes done at 36 weeks.
HAHAHAHA! Oh goodness...
?
Oh crap! no pun intended
I've gotten used to having my hootie hoo poked around in, but I've never experienced that. Thanks for warning us of the potential!
Yeah, that's the strep b test - but they won't do that until 36ish weeks. If they do it earlier than that (as in... uh... your first appt??) they will have to do it again because strep b can develop later!

My OB does it yearly and he did it again at my first check up. Maybe our doctors are more thorough?? I know with my previous doctor (just family doctor that "practice" they're medicine on you) they never did.
Do you have intestinal problems? I have Crohn's so maybe that's why they did it to me??
