I have my glucose tolerance screen Friday in the same hospital where I work. The receptionist said I have to sit and be watched for the hour after I drink the Glucola so I “don’t eat or drink anything else after.” She doubts they will “let me” go work for that hour and come back. I think it’s ridiculous that I be babysat as a medical professional, especially, to make sure I don’t sneak food/drink. My last OB group let all their patients drink the Glucola at home an hour before their appointment time. Just frustrated and ranting, I guess. I will honestly switch back to my old OB group if they give me a hard time. The only reason I switched is because the new group has an office location in my hospital, anyway!
I’m a litte nervous, we’re seeing the ob we saw most of the pregnancy w dd and for both losses. We used to love her, but now I feel kinda guarded and like thebother two new ob’s more. I’m really bummed that the doc who delivered dd isn’t around anymore, he was a perfext personality for us.

@jhjocelyn Do you have to see each of the providers throughout your pregnancy? And then whichever Ob is on call is who delivers? I’m sorry you are having to see this provider again. I’m sure she wanted to respond as best she could to your needs in the past, but I’m doing so lost your comfort and trust. I’ll be thinking of you today. Will your H be able to go with you to your appointment?
@klj0228 Yes, that’s how they do things, we meet everyone, and then have a primary for most of the appts, then whoever is on thay day delivers.
I know she meant well, but it totally rubbed me wrong. DH is going to be there, thankfully, and I think getting through the first one with her will be enough to make the rest okay... I’m just kinda dreading it. At least we’ll have dd w us, she makes all the appts a lot more fun.

@Wishilivedinflorida@jhjocelyn Sorry to heat you’re both already dreading your appointments this week. I hope both of your providers pleasantly surprise you!
I have my glucose test tomorrow. I am lucky that it’s not fasting so I can still eat breakfast as long as it’s not high in sugar, and I can drink it at home before the appointment. After that, I don’t know when my next appointment will be. This birthing center is super low key about appointments. I haven’t had one since week 16.
Standard monthly check-up on Friday. I'll get the information to schedule my glucose test and we'll book the ~28 week follow-up u/s to check placenta location.

Regular check up on Wednesday. Just a belly measurement and heartbeat check. Meeting another new OB to the practice. Hopefully I’ll like her as much as I’ve liked the other new ones. I’m not sure if they’ll have me start every two weeks after this one or if they’ll just do three weeks from now to get me to 30. We’ll see. I’m not concerned.
@jhjocelyn I’m sorry she upset you so much, and that you have to see her this time. I hope all goes well! And yay for your daughter going with you. I bet she enjoys coming to appointments.
I have my glucose test this morning. I totally put if off bc I was sick and then I had to go out of town, and I’m afraid my doctor will be mad and say I’m too late. I’m 27+1 but I have my doctor appt on Thursday, so I don’t know how long it takes to get results but I might need to reschedule doc appt. either way, I seriously can’t function without a cup of coffee when I wake up, and I’m still sitting in bed even though I have to leave in a half hour. Ugh.
@nlc8424 yes, it said nothing after midnight. When I woke up, it occurred to me that this meant coffee too! lol. Luckily they open at 8 and it’s just a few minutes away so I will have my coffee eventually!

My office generally does it around 26-28 weeks so as far as I know you're not "late".

@ashh2018 my doctor recommended not fasting. She said it’s more likely to make you fail. You should double check what your dr wants before taking it. Don’t want to set yourself up to have to do the long one.
25+4. Have a monthly check up tomorrow and will get a referral to do the glucose test sometime after that. Hoping the test isn't a fasting one, always so hungry when I wake up in the mornings!
@ashh2018 You’re not late. My practice does any time between 24-28 weeks. I went early (24+3) this pregnancy because that’s what fit with my schedule. My previous two pregnancies I went somewhere between 26-27.5. You’re good.
@ashh2018 I guess it depends on the test, but I'm doing the non-fasting at 28.5 weeks. I asked my doctor about it since she generally recommends between 26-28 weeks, but she said it's better to be late because testing too early can miss some cases of it. Good luck though and I'm sorry you have to delay coffee!
Oh and @ashh2018 - I didn't have to skip coffee in the morning when I did the test with DS. It was just recommended that if I usually put a lot of sugar in it to skip that, but coffee is no problem for the test through my OB office.

My office does the 1-step/2 hour test for everyone, so I had to fast for mine last week too, @ashh2018. I drank some water that morning but that was all.
My normal childcare schedule has been all mixed up and less available this week and last, so I had to wait until almost 11:00 to start my test after fasting since 10:00 the night before. It was a bummer. I passed though, so yay for that.

@nackie that’s interesting! My doctor specifically told me to fast, and gave me an instruction sheet that said nothing but water after midnight. When I got here and was joking with the woman at the desk about how I missed my coffee, she said “Oh, your doctor should have told you that you could have coffee!” Lol
I had my MW appointment this morning. It was pretty quick. Since I don't have GD and everything is low risk, I don't have to come back again for 4 weeks, but from then on we'll do appointments every 2 weeks. I need to get a TDAP booster, which studies have shown helps the baby avoid whooping cough in the first 2 months of life until they can get their immunizations. It passes on the antibodies from mother to baby.
Ohh also I asked which way she was laying. Last time at my 22w appointment she was transverse, which is how she was at my AS. Now she's on a diagonal with her head down. HR was good and she even was squirming and gave the doppler a kick when they were checking. Feisty, like her mom.

@starla@sclarke7 Mention it to your H's as well! My H's doctor gave him one when H mentioned I was pregnant. It's nice to know the entire family is covered.
TDAP is generally now given to most women with each pregnancy and is recommended for those close to the baby to get a booster if they haven't recently. I will get my shot before 36 week at my OB's office. MH is still covered by the one he got 2 years ago. I got my last one at Walgreens (OB wasn't stocking it then) and it was super easy.
I also asked my parents and in-laws to get one if if they hadn't had one recently since they were planning to be around baby a good amount before he could get his own shot.

This. MH and all the grandparents got one before I had my first. Whooping Cough is brutal for infants and so easy to prevent with a simple shot.
@Wishilivedinflorida I agree. That's ridiculous. What if you cheat and eat/drink! Then you fail and have to take the 5-hour test. That's on you, not them. They shouldn't try to babysit you. I also work in a hospital (although not in a clinical role) and will likely be asking if I can go to meetings/walk around/work on my laptop to pass the hour.

@jhjocelyn glad you got the appointment over with and it was not bad. You had a lot going on the last time you saw her so I’m sure to some extent any doctor would have had a bad memory for you. Hopefully you can now breeze through your remaining appointments no matter who the provider is.
@ashh2018 my office was pretty blunt about waiting till 28 weeks for the GD screening. I wouldn't be too concerned about being 27 and a few days. ;)
I was also told that a light breakfast is fine, so long as it was basically like protein. So when I asked specifically about coffee and an egg, they said that would be fine.
TDAP is generally now given to most women with each pregnancy and is recommended for those close to the baby to get a booster if they haven't recently.

How far along? 24+2 Any appointments this week? Yes! Had my glucose screen yesterday...ugh. She was a little shocked because I apparently gained 8 pounds since the last visit and I have been averaging 3. My excuse....it was late afternoon and I had a gallon of pee when they weighed me lol. This morning we saw the specialist finally about the whole kidney/plumbing issues. Thankfully...both kidneys are NOT enlarged. 1 kidney had slightly more than normal fluid and either his ureter to that kidney is also slightly enlarged or he has 2 ureters feom that kidney. Either way....nothing to worry about....no intervention needed and follow up in 8 weeks just to see if its the same or resolved. They couldn't believe my regular OB was so concerned and the words "fetal demise" were even discussed. He said even if this doesn't completely resolve before birth...baby will have no issues.
@sclarke7 Apparently I had to specify to the doctor that it was the TDAP with pertussis. @SkilledSailor Thanks for the tip! Good point.
@starla - TDAP always includes pertussis. Tetanus only boosters exist, but the P in TDAP = pertussis.
My MW told me to specify that it's the tetanus with pertussis booster. I guess that's what the TDAP name means then. It should protect the baby for 2 months until he/she can get immunized. Now I'm not sure if getting DH and other people who will be in close contact with her to get the booster is really worthwhile. I think the immunity should be enough.

I would still get your husband to get a booster at the very least and I would still bring it up to others that you know will spend a lot of time with baby. It's such a minor inconvenience for the adults but truly worthwhile to help protect baby as much as possible.

Babies don’t have full or lasting immunity from mom alone, which is why they have to get the DTaP at 2, 4, 6 months with boosters as toddlers (18M) and in early childhood (4-6 years). They also require further protection from the adults around them (herd immunity) until they’ve completed their infant vaccination schedule.
The CDC and ACOG recommend all close contacts (husbands, grandparents, infant caregivers) should receive the TDAP vaccine if they haven’t already been vaccinated. My husband will get the TDAP booster and flu shot and we are asking the same of other family members who are planning extended stays with us before baby has immunity (we live across the country so some family members will be coming for 1-2 weeks at a time). The vaccine needs to be given at least 2 weeks before contact with the baby.
@dexnie My MW didn't mention that. I wonder if the recommendations are different in Canada.

Any appointments this week?
Questions or Concerns... none....finally!

OB is sending me for more blood work to confirm if it’s iron or vitamin deficiency. FX it’s vitamin and not iron. I don’t want to double up my iron.
