how long do you generally boil eggs for... i haven't boiled eggs for like 2 years and i'm craving egg salad.... so please help this lil blond girl out! TIA
You can put them in room temp water and set them on the stove for 18 min total, it's quicker than waiting for the water to boil. Then run cold water over them.
thanks everyone! i think i'm doing some unconventional nesting... i don't usually cook or bake very much but today i have made muffins and am gonna make egg salad and i'm also cooking a pot roast thing in the slow cooker for dinner... lol
I use America's Test Kitchen as my reference for everything
Bring water to a boil w/the eggs in it. As soon as the water boils remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for 10mins.
NO, THIS.
You know, I would just google. I have no clue how I do it but the last two times I tried didn't work out very well for me. Good luck.
I did the whole taking it off once the water boils thing and the eggs were completely undercooked...maybe I did something else wrong, but I've hard boiled a TON of eggs this pregnancy and they always come out perfectly if I leave them boiling for the 10-12 minutes.

I think you're right. ?I believe the last few times I did the 'bring to a boil and remove' and they were undercooked and impossible to peel. ?Now, I wish I had some eggs.?
I bring the water to boil first. I poke a hole in the end of the egg (the fatter end) with a pin and then put them in the water. I let them cook for 10-12 minutes then remove and run under cool water.
?I put them in the water, then time 10 minutes once it starts to boil (for hard boiled). ?A little tip: ?add 1-2 tbsp. oil to help soften shells for peeling!
Re: ok i should know this... nbr
We normally put them on to boil, walk away, and then later go "Ohh Sh!t! The Eggs!"
And then they are done.
I believe standard is 10 or 20 minutes.
Make sure you pop them in ice water afterwards. It helps them peel nicer.?
Here is what I do, and it works like a charm every time
1. Put eggs in the bottom of a pan and fill it with COLD water until it just covers the tops of the eggs.
2. Add salt or vinegar (this will help the shells slide off)
3. Put on the stove top to boil, when the water comes to a boil start the timer for 11-12 minutes, make sure the pan is covered.
4. After the 11-12 minutes, take off the heat and then let sit for a minute or two
5. Put in sink and run cold water into the pan until the water in the pan is cold.
HTH!

Ditto this, put the eggs in from the start, but don't start timing until it boils. Put in ice water when you are done.
